Chromatic Lights

After I dug around for a bit, I found out several things.

Firstly, the Hero and his companions were fighting the Demon Lord’s army near the frontiers. Seems they’re struggling quite a bit. Well, I couldn’t care less considering they didn’t give a second thought about throwing me into that accursed forest. In fact, I’d have been perfectly fine with joining the Demon Lord’s army.

Secondly, I was currently in Dreistadt, a small town near the border of the country. Apparently, it’s quite insignificant compared to Einsville, the capital city. Even though monsters have been growing more and more active near here, the capital hasn’t sent any reinforcements. Typical.

Well, luckily for me the monsters were a perfect little piggy bank.

Thanks to my training in the forest, I can defeat a monster within several seconds of encountering them. To get my pay, all I needed to do is give them proof of subjugation. Well, I suppose the heads of goblins would do.

While eradicating every single goblin in sight was quite lucrative, it also came with some… unwanted side effects.

Namely, the fact that I was now called the ‘Mob Slayer’. How rude. Those goblins weren’t mobs when they rushed you in a group.

At any rate, staying in this town for now was the optimal decision. Seems I’ll be a ‘mob killer’ for quite a while longer.

I’ve gotten quite acquainted with the children from the local orphanage. There was Tim, Anna, John, Mary and Nathan. They were nice kids. Tim was a 13 year old red-head who was quite tall. He was quite skilled with the sword. Anna was a blonde 12 year old girl. She was quite skilled with the bow. John and Mary were siblings. John was 11 years old, and rather short for his age. Mary was 9 years old, and she quite liked dolls. Nathan was a 14 year old boy with rather Japanese-looking features. He was essentially the big brother of the orphanage.

When I came to visit, I usually brought clothes that I created using my Sewing skill. I also created some weapons for them. They shouldn’t have any problems surviving as adventurers after they got out of the orphanage.

And so life continued leisurely for two years. Then news came.

The monsters were raiding the town.
