Prologue - A date with another world.
Here I sat, slumped in my chair, aimlessly scrolling my social feed. I had skipped css yet again, and I had no idea how many times this had been. I was probably going to fail, but I simply couldn't summon the motivation to care about Law, just like I had with Psychology and Computer Science before that. I had been interested in all of these subjects initially, getting straight A's, but eventually, as I learnt more, I found it difficult to muster up enthusiasm. If it wasn't for the loans I had to pay back, and the fact that my mom would kill me, I probably would have just quit and gotten a dead-end job somewhere. Instead, I chose to escape my worries by browsing the web, seeing what interesting things I might come across - like now…
Before me was a vibrant post, spshed with an array of colors, dominated by a girl with rainbow colored locks and captivating purple eyes. She was sticking out her tongue mischievously, winking directly at me. Both her hands rested atop her head, forming bunny ears. Above her, embzoned in dazzling hues of the rainbow matching her hair, were the words "The Goddess of Love". Below her image, written in an array of soft pink shades, was a plea - "Needs Your Help Today". Her rge, enchanting eyes and irresistibly cute face were artfully rendered, as if inviting me into her enchanting world of love…
‘Is this some kind of new anime?’ I wonder, once I manage to stop staring. ‘I have seen a few. Mostly the ones that become popur, but this does not look like something I would be into.’ However, just as I was about to close the page, the girl suddenly leaped into action.
"Hey! How could you possibly ignore a girl as adorable as me?" A voice spoke, its tone dripping with annoyance, directly in my ear. The image on the screen shifted, her previously charming countenance now repced by an expression of hurt displeasure.
The shock of a voice made me jump slightly, and instinctively, my hands shot up to check my ears. My heart raced as I realized I hadn't put on my headphones. Before I could fully process this revetion, her image emerged from the screen in a surreal 3D effect, growing rger until her vivid face was a mere inch away from mine.
Her gre transformed into a captivating smile that transfixed me. "So how would you like to be isekai'd?"
"Huh?" was the most coherent sound that managed to escape my lips, followed by an awkward silence as I tried in vain to process the situation unfolding before me.
"You know, isekai'd. Go from this boring everyday life and explore another world." Her voice was ethereal and as soft as cotton candy, making it even harder for me to think.
That reminded me of several movies I've watched, but it did nothing to help me catch up to the conversation.
"I'm good." I instinctively responded. It was more of a default answer than a denial, I always seemed to choose it when I was put under pressure.
"It is filled with elves and dragons and catgirls!" She went on, seeming to ignore what I had just said.
‘I wonder if I'm having a seizure? That would expin why everything seems so real.’ My thoughts wandered, trying to make sense of this all.
"Time flows ten million to one there so you don't even have to worry about anyone missing you." At some point I must have missed, she had put her fingers up in front of my face, and was using them to list off benefits. Judging from the finger count of six, I evidently spaced out on a lot of them.
"Sure I guess." I said back after she stopped. There was no real reason I changed my answer. I just never did well under pressure. ‘I mean, I might as well py along I guess. I wonder, if I wake up in the hospital, will I even remember any of this?’
“Great!" she said, finally seeming to hear me. "I knew I could count on you," she added with a charming smile.
Faster than I could blink, I was zipped across space and time. It was a rather surreal feeling.
In about ten minutes I would look back on this and wish I could have spped myself out of my daze.
