Volume 1 Chapter 34: The Unrelenting First Love of School Days
"What are you talking about? I don't understand a single sentence."
"Yesterday afternoon, in this very classroom, I told Sanlan that we should break up." I replied irrelevantly, a hint of pain flashing across my eyes.
"Don't you like him anymore?" was the first thing Ye Xin thought of.
Don't you like it? My mother always said that I was born with a beautiful and delicate appearance, but why do I have such a strong temper, like a rock. No matter if I'm angry or hurt, I would just bite my lip tightly, no matter how pale it becomes or even bleeds, I wouldn't let anyone see the tears welling up in my eyes. But yesterday, I don't know how many times I cried, and even when I forced myself to smile, my face was still streaming with tears. When I heard that he was hospitalized, my heart skipped a beat, and I became even more restless.
"No wonder Shan Lanlu stood in the snow for so long, he must be very sad. Don't you know how much Shan Lanlu cares about you? He buys you ice cream, sends you hot breakfast, and accompanies you to review your most hated math... Being with him for a long time, I found that he is even more like a child than us, but he likes you so much."
"But I saw him kissing another girl with my own eyes, and I limped to find him with a wounded foot, but didn't expect to see this scene. At that time, I felt like a super big fool. Then I found out something very sad: he liked me, but didn't know how to refuse others." Everything that happened in the orchard was really too much for me.
"Is it true? How could... Single Blue Law." Ye Xin didn't expect such a thing to happen, and was almost shocked into covering her mouth with both hands. "I thought, I thought you were because of Huang Liang and the teacher's relationship."
"Maybe there's some truth to it."
"Have you figured out who that girl is?"
"No." The fruit tree blocked her face, and I could only vaguely see her back, questioning Lan Lu was no longer necessary. I didn't like this way.
"Go and have a clear talk with Shan Lan, and give him and yourself another chance. At least listen to his explanation, I think he's pitiful, being sentenced to death by you for no reason." Ye Xin expressed her thoughts.
I just went to see him, at least my heart wouldn't feel suffocated anymore, so I was persuaded. At noon, there happened to be a relatively long period of time, Ye Xin pulled me out of the guard's sight and sneaked out.
Head straight to the municipal hospital. We asked the nurse on duty in the hall and learned that Shan Lanlu was on the 6th floor of the inpatient department building. After getting out of the elevator, I found that there were more than 20 wards on one floor, but I didn't know which one Shan Lanlu was in? Ye Xin and I looked at each other involuntarily, and then said in unison: "Split up."
Fortunately, each patient's room had a piece of paper with the patient's name and illness on the door. I quickly found Lan Lu's name in room 607 and hastily beckoned to Ye Xin not far away. Knocking on the door didn't get any response, so we quietly pushed it open and went in. The room was quiet, and the nurse seemed to have just changed the medicine and left. Only Lan Lu lay there, her long eyelashes covering her clear eyes, apparently asleep. The midday sunlight poured in through the half-open window, and the wind rustled the curtains, rising and falling.
"Either you accompany him for a bit, I'll go outside and help you with the wind." Ye Xin lowered her voice and said, then walked out.
I stood quietly beside Lantu's bed, staring blankly at his slightly pale face. I remembered that time in the library when we were so close, Lantu's face was almost touching mine, our eyes gazing into each other's had already become shy.
"Shan Shan, don't go, okay?" A few words slipped out of Dan Lan's lips as she slept, her hands restlessly tossing and turning for a while before falling back asleep.
Shan Lanlu, was it really because of me that you got sick? Why are you so silly? Don't you know that standing in the snow for too long can be fatal? If being with each other makes us cry, then let's just be best friends for life. I untied the peace charm from my body, which had been there for a very long time, and gently tied it around his slender left wrist. Shan Lanlu, you must get better soon, don't make me feel so guilty anymore.
