One Mans Fight

  Lao Lao Wang's Works The Butterfly that Crossed Time and Space Volume 1: The Most Absurd War Chapter 3: A Lone Battle

  Fili stood on the second-floor balcony of the Emoni Garrison Command, gazing out at the desolate street scene under the sunset.

  News of the defeat had been in town for barely half a day, yet Emon Harbour was already swinging from one extreme to another. Shops big and small were rushing to close their doors, while the streets were packed with carts loaded with all manner of bundles. Further away, there were occasional shouts and gunfire, as the guards struggled to maintain order against looters.

  Looking back at the courtyard of the headquarters, the situation was even more desperate. More than a hundred security guards were listlessly sitting or standing in the courtyard. Some were holding long guns and dozing off. Others were whispering to each other, possibly complaining about being gathered so late and not being allowed to go home. Still others were simply sitting on the ground in groups of three or five playing cards. Although he had known that Charlotte's subordinates were like this, Felix couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine.

  Is Emon's safety really dependent on these people? The future is indeed worrying.

  The long period of prosperity and peace has made the people of New Teleria completely forget the hardships of pioneering and the cruelty of war. The courage of their ancestors in defeating the gods seems to have dissipated entirely among these people. According to Phil's memories from his time at Deepwater University, during the Second Continental War, the elven army never had more than 30,000 troops on the continent of Manas, yet they ravaged nearly half of New Teleria; the weakness and disorganization of the colonists were also major contributing factors.

  "Charlotte, can your subordinates hold down Emon? I think twenty elf rangers would be enough to occupy this city!" Phil said bluntly to Charlotte, who was checking the flower list, without any tact due to their long acquaintance.

  "I've already recalled the people from the western border outpost, they often have to deal with monsters, should be stronger than these ones below, and didn't I also hire a lot of mercenaries? This is the New Continent, where did this Elf Ranger come from?"

  "It's already here, look over there." Fili stretched out his hand and pointed towards the eastern sea.

  Charlotte looked puzzled and glanced over, possibly because the light was too dim, he didn't notice anything, turned his head to look at Phyllis who had no joking expression, then took out his binoculars to observe carefully. Soon, his binoculars fell to the ground with a "clatter".

  On the distant sea surface, a sailboat appeared and disappeared, on the huge sail, a green trident was painted prominently.

  That is the emblem of the Fairy Kingdom Navy.

  Captain Bonatti found himself in big trouble.

  "Where is the fleet? Why can't I see a single ship?"

  Captain Bonatti and his transport ship "Cornicello" were originally a sprite merchant ship sailing on the Sea of Fallen Stars, but were suddenly requisitioned by the military a month ago to transport troops and supplies along with the main fleet to reinforce the North Pole port. Unfortunately, the fleet was blown apart by a storm. He managed to reunite with several other stray ships and continued westward, only to be scattered again in a morning fog, and now he has no idea where he is or what to do.

  "Land! Land!"

  The lookout on the mast excitedly shouted down, and with his voice, figures gathered from all over the ship to the deck, looking in the direction the lookout was pointing at the distant sea horizon.

  "Really!"

  "It's true! It's land."

  Captain Bonatti pored over the error-ridden and water-damaged map of the Manas continent issued by the Navy Department for a long time, but still couldn't figure out where he was. The only thing that could be confirmed was that this was absolutely not the North Pole Port, because the lighthouse at the port was flying the six-pointed star flag of Naiselle. However, the scarce food and water reserves on the ship made him unable to think about it anymore.

  "Raise the flag, dock ashore, we'll get off and tidy up, and take the opportunity to replenish our supplies. Remember to avoid the harbor and fortresses!" Captain Bonatti gave the order, then turned around and saluted the two sturdy elf warriors, "Next, it's your turn."

  "Don't worry, this isn't the first or second time." The warrior burst out laughing, "Marines, all units prepare to land!"

  When Ferry and Charlotte arrived at the place where the elves had landed, the town was already completely engulfed in flames.

  A horde of beasts that flaunt peace and justice are spreading death, fear, and sin. They are turning a land of peace and prosperity into a hell of blood and fire.

  In the night sky, people's terrified screams echoed, and the goblin soldiers in leather armor sneered at the fleeing crowd with their most ferocious smiles, thrusting their long spears at one after another of the elderly, children, and women who couldn't run, stabbing them down, piercing them through, and killing them!

  The streets turned into slaughterhouses, with fresh blood gathering on the ground to form flowing rivers. The butchers were madly slaughtering while stuffing anything valuable into their waist pockets. Amidst the flames and wails, the cry of "Glory to Lord Xefras!" from the Elven Army was clearly audible.

  Feli stared blankly at the dismal scene in front of her, as if something inside her had shattered.

  Fili considered himself not a person with a strong sense of justice, and he always put his own interests first, whether on Earth or in this world. He had done many things that harmed others for his own benefit. However, when he saw the atrocities committed by the Spirit Army, he became enraged without any reason.

  Why be angry? I am not a Nazi, their life and death have nothing to do with me. Fili tried hard to persuade himself to calm down, but he failed. His mind kept thinking of Nanjing, thinking of Dalian, thinking of the tragic scenes that had happened in another world.

  Looking back, Charlotte and his hundreds of subordinates were all pale in the face of blood and fire, their legs trembling slightly, and some had already shrunk back, wanting to slip away at any time.

  "Charlotte, it's time we got going." Phil tapped Midshipman on the shoulder.

  Charlotte took a while to react, "This... the enemy is too strong, let's wait and see." The security guards around nodded busily.

  Fili gazed at these people sorrowfully, knowing he couldn't count on them anymore. Suddenly, a few famous phrases from his original world echoed in his mind.

  At first they came for the communists, and I did not speak out because I was not a communist.

  Then they killed the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew;

  Later they killed trade union members, I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade union member;

  Afterwards they killed Catholics, I said nothing because I was a Protestant;

  Finally they came running towards me, but no one stood up for me again.

  ……

  The enemy won't spare you just because of your silence, the only way to protect yourself is to make the violent guys reap what they sow. With that thought, Fili picked up her portable magic terminal - a product of DR2350's latest technology capable of storing 300 spells, a prize for being an excellent graduate of Deepwater City University - and activated the flight spell.

  "Wait, don't go get yourself killed!" Charlotte stretched out her hand to grab him, but missed, and watched as Phil flew forward.

  "The weak new Israelites." Igul rose from the woman he had just ravished, incidentally spitting a mouthful of thick phlegm onto her naked body, then cut the woman's throat with one stroke.

  As a veteran of the Sprite Marine Corps, Iggle had fought in many places, but he had never met such weak people as these townspeople, who were so scared that they forgot to run away and only knew how to huddle together and tremble. It seemed that this time he would be able to plunder quite a few good things, and while putting on his pants, he hummed a happy tune beside the corpses.

  Suddenly, a streak of blue light flashed across his neck, cutting out a neat gap, and fresh blood gushed out. He fell silently beside the woman he had just killed.

  "Another beast." Fili-Taylor furrowed his brow and then went back into stealth mode, flying up high.

  Perhaps it was too easy, the sprite soldiers were busy venting their desires, and not even a single sentry was posted, nor did anyone notice that their companion who had gone to take care of business in the thicket had not returned. Fili silently cast a detection spell in mid-air, and was shocked to discover that the only mage among the sprite army was also busy thrusting away on top of a woman's belly, while most of the soldiers had removed their anti-magic armor which hindered them from doing their business, making the entire squad nothing but targets for him.

  "It seems a bit difficult to avoid harming civilians." Feili glanced at the woman who was pressed under the elf, and then looked at the guards who were still on the small hill outside the town, and reluctantly gave up the idea of using powerful magic to burn everything. First, he cast a spell of protection on himself, and then appeared in the night sky.

  "Since we can't harm innocent people, let's just play a thrilling game then. Hopefully, the prepared spells will be enough."
