Chapter 2 – prelimenary scans

  12 hours after the crash

  Inside the scanner compartment

Two engineers worked tirelessly to get the systems back online, but they kept getting the same problems and conclusions, one is that the system is fine for the most part but what baffled them is that it does not work for long periods of time. The longest they had it run was a few minutes and as time goes by they kept getting irritated.

"Aghhhhh, what is wrong with this thing?"

  Said one of the engineers

"Rex, Swan, well figure this out eventually"

  Said the other

"Yes i know james, you also know this is getting no where and were fucking slow without the hive mind system"

  He said fraustratedly

"Yeahhhh, probably others are getting the same problems"

  He stopped then continued

"Well, cant do anything for now, until the scientist figure out whats interfering then we cant do much"

"Team E4, engr. James and swan, do you copy"

A radio from james's chest talked with a lot of chatter.

  "This is James we copy,over"

"Man that thing is ancient, thats like ten thousand years old?"

  Swan said

"Well this is the only thing that works at the moment and the only thing our functional printer could produce without much effect from the interference"

  James expined to swan

"Come to cafeteria 3.... No wait 2 sorry, 3 is destroyed from the impact over"

"Copy that, well come in a few minutes"

James then shuts of his radio and then looked at swan and said.

"Lets clean up then lets head there"

  "Aight"

  ------

Few minutes tes in the cafeteria 2

3 of the scientist, all 5 of the engineers are present, 3 of the 7 teachers are present as well, including the captain with 4 soldiers, and are each on their own seats. The cafeteria is now not a cafeteria, instead it turned into a multi purpose hall, and now they were about to use it to present the scientists findings. Though this time they are using white board and markers instead of hightech holograms

  "Good evening im professor Elliot"

  He paused then talked again

"First of all sorry for all of the wait, you see all of our advance systems are inoperable, minus the life support systems, thus we had to do thing manually, thats why it slow"

He expin then paused for a moment, then he continued

"Now we have made some progress on identifying the cause of this debacle, first of the malfunctioning systems"

He then proceded to draw the ship and the current pnetary data that they had albeit very simplified.

"It started when we entered the end of the mesosphere, then heightened and caused our crash once we reached the stratosphere."

He drawed the parts of the atmosphere of earth.

"We used earth metrics since, curiously its very simir to it except the gargantuan size of this pnet"

  He paused

"Anyway, when we scanned plenimenary data outside of the ship, we found very low amounts of radiation of an unknown type, which should not have been able to bring down our ship."

  The captain raised his hand

  "Uhh yes captain"

  "Is it dangerous?"

  The captain asked.

"As of now i dont think it has any adverse effects to any of us, if it was any of the known ionizing radiation we'd be long dead by now when we got through that weird concentration above and if its the non ionizing type then some of us would likely be experiencing something of sorts but as of now, we believe its not that dangerous"

  "Rightttt, hmmmm"

The captain then stared at the ground, thinking of another question, once he had thought of one he looked at the scientist oncemore and said.

"About that, If it started on the edge of the stratosphere, why is the readings low down here"

"That captain we still have no answer, but our working theory is that something is lighter than this pnets atmosphere is emitting this radiation"

  "Thankyou you may continue"

"Continuing on, ughh please bring that thing in"

He asked one of the soldiers on the corner. Who then brought a metal box.

"Yes thankyou, now this is whats more surprising"

He then revealed the insides of the container.

  "Here, lies a pnt"

He showed a pnt, though its more like a bush.

  "Thats from outside?"

  One of the engineers said.

"Yes and this pnet is already vegetated, thus there could already be life here"

The room stayed silent, as if everyone already knew the implications if there is a pnt present on the pnet, the scientist is just doing this for dramatic effect.

"But curiously, it emitted the same radiation as the one that brought the ship down. But unlike on the air this one acts weirdly, for a start"

He brought out a high tech communications device that would be easily interfered by the radiation on the atmosphere.

"As you could see, this junk is not working"

He then demonstrated it by trying to turn it on then a few seconds ter it shuts off.

  "But if i do this"

He pced the communications device inside the pnt. And turned it on and was successfully able to fully turn on and was able to communicate with everybody's primitive radios without a problem.

  Everybody gets shocked and excited.

"It does not just work with live pnts, it also works with dried leaves"

He brought out a box of dead leaves and took out the communications device from the bush which promptly died. He then repeated the process to the box of leaves and it worked again.

On one of the corners of the meeting swan and james are bickering and whispering to one another.

"Bruh whats with this presentation, so dramatic"

  Swan said

"Meh its entertaining, its also a break from the norm. Of just talking to the brain, plus none of us here has studied how to present information like its 10k years ago."

He said to swan, who replied immedietly.

"Meh whatever, so do we pnt those shit in the server room?, oh i have an idea, why dont we just tape up some leaves on the sht we need, only the circuits are going to sht right?"

"Nahhh, i think we got to extract what ever is in that leaf so well have to wait a little bit longer, plus i dont think the leaves with tape would st long"

"Hah Obviously,So who's gonna do it?, you?"

"Nope i dont know jack sht about biological things, unless i have the hive system i cannot do it"

"Ehhhhh, what about jackson, i think he specializes on that"

"Lets wait and see what the captains decision is"

After a while the meeting was about to end when the captain talked.

"Thankyou professor, now that we know what we could use to mitigate the radiation, who could extract the magical compound in the pnts to coat our tech so that we could use it outside?"

  "Captain i volunteer"

One of the scientists raised his hand.

  "Jackson am i correct?"

  "Yes sir"

"Do what you must, everyone, help jackson to what ever his needs are, Jackson start working on it we need our tech to be functional asap."

  "Yes sir"

  "Alright meeting adjourned"

  ------

  2 days ter

  Somewhere in a b in a ship.

One of the scientist named jackson, along with 2 other scientist are helping to extract the misterious compound that could shield technology from the said radiation.

Over the numerous tables countless gsswares and pnt samples are scattered around the work area. As each of the people in the room tried multiple methods of extracting the compound.

  "Solvent extraction did not work"

Said one of the scientist said

"steam distiltion, some effect but negligable"

  Another one said

"Skip cold pressing, maceration, infusion, decoction, Soxhlet extraction. Lets skip to supercritical CO? extraction it might be connected to its oils or something"

  "Roger"

  "Aight"

  Both assistant scientist's replied.

A few moments ter they were able to jerry rig a simple supercritical fluid extractor, to create a small sample of what they were looking for. They proceeded to use the said apparatus and got some oils on it.

"Mel, mix this up with some other sht and turn it into some coating, keep its dielectric breakdown high so we dont get some weird sht"

Jackson passed a small test tube with a small amount of the said oils of the pnt.

"Alright, it would be ready in an hour"

"Alright call us on the breakroom after your done"

  "Will do"

Jackson and another scientist then proceeded to the break room and too some snacks in the form of mre's.

"Hah, never thought the engineers would just sp leaves with tape in our tech and call it a day"

The other scientist, whose name is jay said to jackson, trying to start up a conversation.

"Yeahh never saw that coming. I really though were going to be doing this primitively, and not to mention, it would be taking alot longer"

"Yehhhh, i hope this works, i already miss the quick thinking and using the drones to survey, while still chilling in my room"

  Jay said groaning in frustration.

then both scientists stayed silent, only their rhythmic breathings could be heard. They could hear some gss ware tinking from the other side of the breakroom but that was it, silence filled their ears, then jay decided to break it.

  "So, where you from?"

  Jay asked jackson.

  "What do you mean?"

Jackson replied to jay, asking him to crify what he asked.

"You know, where ur born and stuff before all of this sht"

  Jay expined further.

  "Im from keplerdreamia, you?"

  Jackson replied.

  "Trappist III"

Jay replied back, then a short silence occured.

"How old are you now technicaly, including your cryostasis period"

Jackson asked firing his own question.

"Hmmm including that, about 800 years, you?"

"Im, 12 centuries old, ive been defrosted for half of that."

Jackson replied, to which jay was bewildered by his answer.

"Damn, I only live 80 years defrosted, did you have any complications living tthis long?"

  Jay asked curiously.

"Not much, only having trouble remembering some stuff, well thanks to our tech I've lived this long, but now i dont think we could rely on it much"

"Yeahhhh, i agree, it seems we'd have to go primitive on this one"

  Jay replied smirking

"Hah, back to sticks and stones"

Jackson chuckled a little on jays proposition.

  "Hmmmmm, on another note"

Jay said thinking of another question

"Who's the oldest in our crew"

  Jay asked.

"Its the vice captain I think, but he did not survive the crash, and we cannot revive him at this point with our technical issues"

  "So who's the current oldest?"

"That would be the captain i think, he's at i believe from the start of the war. 2500 years ago"

"Ohhhhh, anyways what about the issue with the revival stuff"

"Currently, we cannot transfer any consiousness to our servers if someone dies right now, so we cannot save them."

Jackson paused when he thought of something.

"The consiousness transfer is a delicate thing, any mistakes could make the person dead or different so we only take the persons memories on their death and that is immedietly, any more or any less time that takes could exponentially increase the chances of something going wrong."

"Which means they'r most likely dead now"

Jackson paused, then jay questioned him.

"You mean since were stuck here we cannot use the consiousness transfer?"

  "Yes"

"So, if we die, thats that?"

"Yes, unless were able to somehow fix the problem of the radiation"

The room went silent, then jay stood up

"Imma go for a walk or some shit"

"Alright, you still have your radio?"

  "Yeah, its here"

He showed the radio that was clipped to his hip

"Alright just listed for updates and comback here"

  "Alright"

Jay then walked out of the door of the breakroom.

"Imma report this to the captain ter, but i think he already knows, imma report it to him just in case"

  ------

Somewhere in a forest thats also somewhere

In the dark night inside of the forest, a bright light is penetrating out. From withing the grove of trees. A hooded person with a staff with a crystal on top, thats currently glowing brightly walks with purpose through the forest. Rhythmic crunches of dried leaves echoed through the silent forest. As time passes the wind starts to blow cooler and cooler air. The person also started to exhale mist out of her nose and mouth.

Then a few more moments pass, something changed, the rhythmic crunches of leaves was broken. Another rhythm of crunches started, this time slower. The person stopped and looked back. He saw nothing, but the sound of footsteps keeps getting closer and closer. The bright glow the staff is emitting turned off, turning the once bright forest into a pitch bck one.He pointed proceded to point his staff to the direction of the sound, when slowly the gem on top began to glow a light blue hue, then after sometime a bright blue point appeared on tome of the crystal thats glowing the same color. The footsteps stopped then it became faster, only this time going the other way, but the person did not care, he did not even thought twice of sparing the creature in the dark and without a thought he fired his magic.

A blue fsh appeared from the crystal and it sent the blue point flying towards the other direction chasing the creature, then a brief blue fsh appeared that transitioned quickly to a fiery orange. Then an explosion occured obliterating the creature, then a tree fell down due to missing half of its trunk, the other half charred bck. the surrounding foliage helping spread fire everywhere. To nearby trees and the other dried leaves.

The persons hood then moved backwards revealing his, rather her head. Her skin tone ash, with long white hair and a set of pointy ears.

"Uhhhhh, thats going to cause a forest fire, lets not do that"

She said then pointed her staff in the same direction oncemore.

"Uhhhh, wind?, nonono that would make it worse..... Uhh water yes water"

The crystal then began to glow a deep blue hue, then a blob of water began to manifest infront of it, and like before a fsh of the same color occured along with the shooting of the magic outward. Though this time it did not cause a fire, instead once it impacted its intended target, it caused something akin to a local rain shower for a brief moment originating from the impact zone causing much of the previously burning foliage to be wet and cold. She then repeated this a few more times before continuing on her journey.
