[Kim POV]

  I felt like I was half awake as I watched my body move to attack the man who was torturing me just a few minutes ago.

  Kim, can you hear me? (Jill)

  What was that? Was there someone else here? For some reason, I can hear whoever that was. My idle thoughts were interrupted by the sight of my hand crushing a man's arm and tossing him away like trash. Suddenly I was sent flying into a wall but my body blocked it in time.

  That didn't look fun.

  Walking out of the hole made from my impromptu flight I noticed I now had scales on my arms. My body suddenly stopped moving and I was forced to look at a spike pointed at some hazy figures. Even though I couldn't see them, those figures are important to me I know it. Another figure I could vaguely recognize seemed to be saying something to me. I tried to do something to stop the man before my body spoke.

  "How will you do that when you can't even break my ice?"(Kim?)

  Afterward, I got to see the man be kicked away. If I had one word for how he looked right now it would be...

  "Pathetic."(Kim?)

  My body was looking around and seemed to stop on another figure I recognized. Didn't they do something to get me here? They look worried and ready to jump at a moment's notice.

  "Are you going to try next, little Miss Distraction?"(Kim?)

  Suddenly she started running but my instincts told me she needed to stay. I formed an I've wall in their path.

  *Bang*

  Pain erupted from my back and I fell over. All the haze disappeared from my mind and ughter erupted from behind me.

  "HAHAHA! You let your guard down! Did you think this was a simple gun? It uses bullets that are meant to take down a mutant."(Mick)

  Looking back I saw him pointing the gun at Jill who was in her fox form running at him. The pain was quickly repced by rage seeing this and I moved to stop him. I grabbed the gun barrel in a fsh of white and pointed it at the sky.

  "How dare you point this at her!"(Kim?)

  "That's not possible I shot you! How are you alive!"(Mick)

  I looked over at the man who had kidnapped me not caring for what he was saying but remembering who I was being taken from. My rage was boiling at just the thought of never seeing them again.

  "You were pnning to take me from them. Lily, Gale, Ivan, and most of all Jill! Did you think I would let that happen?!"(Kim?)

  I disarmed the gun from his remaining hand and kicked him just enough to knock him out. With Mick no longer a threat and adrenaline running through me, I looked around to make sure there were no more threats to us. A hand nded on my shoulder and all the adrenalin drained from my body and my connection to Jill was established stronger than ever. I couldn't ponder it for long because Jill passed out as soon as we reconnected forcing me to catch her. My knees nearly bucked from a combination of her falling into me and my fatigue.

  "Hey Jill are you ok? Say something."(Kim)

  I quickly check to see if she is breathing. I could hear air flowing from her mouth but before I could check anything else Lily pulled me to the side.

  "Let me look at her."(Lily)

  "Is she going to be ok?"(Kim)

  "Who do you think you are talking to? Unless the Grim Reaper himself appeared to cim her, I won't let her die and even then they would have to work for it."(Lily)

  I sighed in relief, and Lily gred at me intensely.

  "Don't rex just yet. After this is all sorted out you are getting a full check-up, so you better be prepared."(Lily)

  I straightened up when she emphasized the word full, but I knew she was worried so I opted not to say anything against it. A thought occurred to me.

  "How did you find me anyway? You and Jill got here fairly quickly, not that I'm compining."(Kim)

  "I put a tracker on you"(Lily)

  "Where?"(Kim)

  I looked over myself to see if I could find where she put the tracker.

  "Well to be more accurate, I had you ingest it."(Lily)

  "What?! When did you do that?"(Kim)

  "When we had that snack just before leaving."(Lily)

  "You could have just told me and it would have been fine."(Kim)

  "Yes, but this is funnier."(Lily)

  I let out a small grunt, but I smiled at the thought. As I leaned back, my arms sank into the snow for support, and I noticed something odd. There was pressure originating from my tailbone. I slowly turned to get a better look, only to find I now had a new appendage. A blue reptilian tail shifted in the snow and appeared to be the source of my discomfort. Just as I was about to freak out Lily had finished looking at Jill.

  "Ok I finished looking her over and nothing appeared to be wrong so we just have to let her rest."(Lily)

  "Few. That's good because we may have a small issue over here."(Kim)

  Lily looked over at me with a worried expression, once she saw me holding my new tail she froze. The next thing I knew she was next to me examining my new appendage thoroughly.

  "How did this happen? Was it when you absorbed the Shift?! I have to know!"(Lily)

  In the middle of her questions, I heard her say something ridiculous.

  "I did what with the Shift!"(Kim)

  Lily stopped and looked at me with a puzzled expression.

  "You didn't know?"(Lily)

  "No. Everything felt like a dream and I didn't know what was real."(Kim)

  "We will go over everything when we get back but for now. You somehow absorbed the Shift and immobilized your attackers."(Lily)

  "Ok."(Kim)

  Lily went back to examine my tail but I had to tell her to be careful because it was sensitive in some areas. Soon Lily got a call from Ivan telling us he was on his way to pick us up and to stay where we were. I let out a sigh of relief when he showed up with Gale. On the way back I tried to get used to my new tail which felt very natural to control unfortunately for me, Jill while still half-asleep grabbed it and was cuddling it. With nothing else to do I decided to I leaned back in my seat and took a quick nap.

  [Chief POV]

  I was sitting in my office waiting to hear something about the expedition the Doctor was on when my secretary called me on the intercom.

  "Sir I have a report that requires your attention."(secretary)

  "Is it about the trip to the Shift?"(Chief)

  "Yes sir. How did you know?"(secretary)

  "I had a hunch."(Chief)

  Not really, I knew that some rouge faction was on the base and that they had been looking into the cocoon. So one way to get them to expose themselves was to have some bait waved in their faces.

  "So what does the report say?"(Chief)

  "It seems that three expedition members tried to kidnap one of the Doctor's companions named Kim but were unsuccessful."(secretary)

  "Have they been apprehended?"(Chief)

  "Yes, but one of them has sustained a grievous wound."(secretary)

  "Are they in danger of dying?"(Chief)

  "No sir."(secretary)

  "Then have them ready for interrogation when they arrive."(Chief)

  "Verry well. Will that be all?"(secretary)

  "Yes thank you."(Chief)

  Once I heard the line disconnect I leaned back in my chair. Now all I have to do is get those three to talk and I'll be free from the supremacists that have wormed their way into my base.
