Chapter 10.5: Leviathan’s Troubles

Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the globe in the ocean nearing the remote island that Iris left a day ago, a standoff was happening.

“You shall make way for us this instant.”

“Yes, we are well aware whatever It was you siblings were protecting from our master had left yesterday.”

“They have sent us to investigate, and as we can tell the overwhelming mana of the island has lessened, make way for us.”

  “…”

The standoff was between 3 winged angels flying above the ocean and the giant sea dragon leviathan. The angels consisted of 2 females with a single pair of feathery wings dressed in a flowing battle armor with a halo floating above their heads. The third of the angels was male, having 3 sets of wings and wearing plate armor with a golden glowing sigil floating behind their armored head.

Leviathan only had his head sticking out of the water, internally sighing. Normally a group would be childs play for him, but due to his very own mother he had been placed in a very peculiar spot. Frankly, he was low on hp and did not regenerate enough of it to risk a fight with these three. Granted, he probably would not lose but a fight would still be risky, something he wanted to avoid.

Still, he expected his mother’s absence to cause some problems, but he did not expect it to be so soon… he had underestimated just how much they were interested in this island and by extension his mother.

He rose out of the water, being wary of the angel’s movements, he had to be careful how to handle this delicate situation “While the situation on the island may have changed, the treaty remains intact, your master has no claim on this island.” He spoke telepathically to the three, hoping that a simple reminder of a pact centuries old would be enough to get them to retreat.

The two angels became agitated at the comment, but were placated with a hand wave from the main one “Hah!” he scoffed “That pact happened eons ago, if it were not for you and your siblings stubbornness that island and every other territory you siblings hold so dear would have been united long ago.” The man shrugged in an exaggerated manner, shaking his head “A pity your old ones do not wish to be united.”

Leviathan snarled; this one was overstepping his bounds. He was an archangel, an older and more powerful evolution of the angel race, so old it would not surprise him if this one was there during the early days as a newborn angel… “Hold your tongue, lest you want to speak for your master.”

The archangel paused for a moment “Hm, it is indeed a pity.” Laughing to himself he continued “But back to what is important, you will let us investigate the island.”

As if taking a que, one of the two angels piped up “Our master has always been concerned with the pure amount of raw mana emanating from that island, at first they thought it was just the world tree, but they have always held their suspicions.”

The other joined in “The unworldly amount of mana on that island can shift the very fabric of reality, it has been stable for as long as anyone can remember, but yesterday it fluctuated, an off shoot of it went to the mainland and vanished underground with the mana here now notably diminished.”

The archangel shrugged “As they have said, this has caused our master to question this pact and what lies on that island, but as to not stress the pact any further has settled on letting us three investigate.”

  Bullshit.

Was the only word that came to leviathan’s mind. Their holier than thou master was only ever interested in this island to abuse the power of it and turn it into some holy land icon, and now that they had an excuse to jump on it they are taking it while not even bothering to come themselves. Leviathan gave a heavy sigh, thinking that he should be grateful for that at least, if they did show up themselves, he’d be screaming at his siblings to get here ASAP.

“Regardless, the answer is no.” While his mother was gone and thus the main reason for defending this island from them gone, his siblings and himself had managed to hide the existence of mother from them all this time and allowing them to set foot on the island and discover her existence was something he wished to avoid.

If they were to discover mother and make her angry, all life on this planet could be wiped out in her rage, as happened in the past. This is something that must be delayed with all the siblings might.

“The pact remains, tell your master the island remains none of their concern and is still under the protection of me and my siblings.” He then rose out of the water, towering over the three “and will remain so for as long as we live.”

  “…”

  “…”

Breaking the silence, the archangel started to laugh.

“You find this funny?” Leviathan roared “Your presence here is no longer welcome, leave, return to your master.”

“I do, in fact.” The archangel extended his arm, a brief flash of light and he was now wielding a golden halberd “Others would too, It is hilarious you think you are in any position to stop us.”

Leviathan was taken aback, halting for a moment “You intend to fight me? Truly you do not intend to anger me and my siblings.”

“Oh that is where you are wrong you over grown sea snake.” The archangel said, pointing the tip of their blade towards him “I remind you my master set us to investigate, with us being the best to do so, naturally we would have the highest appraisal skill to accomplish this task…and I must say you hide your injuries well.”

Leviathan narrowed his eyes, a power building at the back of his throat, he had to end this swiftly…

“Oh no no no Leviathan, I’d hold your breath.” The tip of the halberd started to glow “While even in your weakened state I do not believe it is likely we would win, you being at such low health puts you in a very tough spot…” The archangel motioned to his two partners, who drew their weapons as well “Now, it certainly would be bad if this news got back to my master…no?”

Holding his breath at the back of his thought, leviathan let out a growl, this had devolved into a very disadvantages position for himself, he’d have to call his siblings for help and pray at least one of his sisters would get here in time.

But as he sent out the request for help telepathically, he soon felt it bounce back at him, his eyes widening in surprise before snapping his attention to the archangel who just cleared his throat, noticing an orb in his hands.

“A telepathy blocker, my apologies but I cannot have you calling for help.” He said “Now, as I was saying and now that I have your full attention… It would be bad for you if I called my master and informed them of your health, but I have an offer for you.”

Leviathan, now unable to communicate due to the blocker, growled angerly.

“I take it that means you are interested?” He chuckled “Simply put, we’d like full credit on this mission, you let us go on the island and do our investigation, and once we are done we don’t inform our master they could take out a long standing annoyance.”

He narrowed his eyes, something had been up since awhile ago…this one was constantly over stepping his bounds, and while archangels had egos bigger then their combined wingspan he was starting to doubt this one was even acting on behalf of his master… but as he could not communicate he had no way of confirming.

“Now, before you think you can kill us before we send the message, I assure you we can avoid you long enough to disable this field a-“

  “YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY”

Leviathan blinked, and the three angels were gone, replaced by a plum of feathers mixed in a red mist and the sounds of the orb and weapons splashing in the waters below “What in the world?” with the telepathy blocker disabled leviathan could now speak, his attention soon drawn to the sounds of additional splashing followed by a man laughing.

Approaching he found an oni floating in the water with a few bruises, laughing uncontrollably, the three angels were nowhere to be seen. “Uh…” Unsure how to react to this, Leviathan just stared.

The oni slammed his fist into the water “Ahaha! That little lady! I knew it! She is perfect!” He then sat up, floating on top of the water’s surface “Oh! From a mysterious lady to the legendary dragon lord of the vast oceans Leviathan himself! As much as I’d love to fight you, I think I just found my fighter’s heart true love, best be back to her, cheers!”

Leviathan, speechless, watched as the man then started swimming in a breaststroke towards the mainland, away from the island.

As he soon swam out of view, leviathan sunk back into the ocean, confused. Deciding it best to focus on recovery while formulating a very strongly worded telepathic letter to someone.
