Chapter VI: Ascension

Zakk: “He was being sealed? His true powers weren’t being showcased? Be careful, if he now has the true power of those he’s stolen from, he’ll be so much stronger than you’ve imagined.”

The monsters dart at me, all trying to attack me. I’m fending them off one by one but get a heavy hit from the Harbinger sending me into the monsters behind me. All attacking me at once, hard hitting fists take turns landing blows. I punch back but the monsters get blown back, I see the magic used but get confused because no one I know here uses wind magic…

Zakk: “Get back in the fight, we’ll support you the best we can.”

I stand up, eyeing down the Harbinger. It’s staring at me back, pure intent to kill me. But I don’t plan on holding back either. I dash at it, dodging all attempts Harbinger takes to hit me and land a punch that sends it flying into a wall. It quickly recovers and dashes toward me, both of us landing a strong hit that sends us both to the ground. Alex takes the opportunity to send a blast of magic at the Harbinger, hitting it straight on. The Harbinger gets up and dashes towards her but I grab it’s leg, tossing it onto the ground. Landing punch after punch on the Harbinger I yell, “YOUR FIGHT IS WITH ME, DO NOT TAKE YOUR ATTENTION OFF ME.” Punching even harder and faster as I continued on yelling.

  A sharp object impales me.

I look down slowly, noticing a scythe has just sliced into me. Watching it disappear tells me it was made out of magic energy. I cough up blood and stare at the Harbinger, it then pushes me off it and punches me onto the ground. It then turns and starts walking toward Alex and Zakk.

I attempt to yell, “You leave them alone.”

I repeat it multiple times, but it was no use. I watch it punch Zakk out of the way and grab Alex by her face. I see this happening, I feel powerless, I feel the life draining out of me.

Memories Begin To Flood My Mind

Mom: “Son, remember that just because sometimes people are mean that doesn’t mean they’re bad people. Your father loves you, I’m sure of it. Promise me you’ll always keep everyone you care about safe, even if they’ve hurt or upset you. Maybe one day you’ll get to see your father again.”

My eyes slowly open, seeing the scythe take shape again from the Harbingers magic. Noticing what’s happening, I feel nothing but anger, I need to stop this. A beam of purple aura shoots out of me, the Harbinger turns around quickly but sees nothing. For a split second, he turns back around toward Alex but all he sees is a fist coated in purple aura landing straight on it’s face. Sending him flying, as he’s unable to stop the momentum of his body flying backward, he charges up his next attack but again loses sight of me. My hand grips the back of his head and slams him straight into the ground. Making his way into my shadow, multiple scythes appear from the shadows, dodging them all until another energy blast hits me. It takes the opportunity to come out of my shadow and try to land a barrage of attacks not realizing my eye was on it the entire time. Blocking his barrage of attacks, I prepare for my next attack until he tackles me into his shadow. It’s complete darkness, it feels like a void of nothingness. A sequence of attacks hit me, the Harbinger is taking advantage of his terrain. My senses are slowly adapting, trying to feel for his presence as I continuously get attacked. Another scythe pierced my arm, but my reflexes allowed me to grab the handle of it, landing a punch on the Harbinger before letting go of the scythe. I coat my fist in aura, not sure how I am doing it but imagining it helped.

Heightening my senses is taking a while, the inability to see has truly given me a disadvantage in this fight. The Harbinger, still using this to his advantage, still attacking me in a sequence. Sometimes slower, sometimes faster. But the attacks are still the same, as if it’s some sort of rhythm. I allow another sequence of attacks to hit me, but I finally figure out the pattern. I punch the air, connecting my fist to its face. It attacks again, meeting my fist to it’s face a second time. This third time, I coated my fist in an aura again, this time pouring as much as I can into this attack, punching him one more time before he could connect his attack to me. Once my attack hits, we get thrown out of my shadow back in front of Alex and Zakk. Both me and the Harbinger angered and hurt, we started slowly getting up ready to continue the fight.

Once we’re both up, we throw a punch at each other, exchanging blows. We begin getting more enraged, neither of us will waver and accept defeat. Our auras now are more intense than ever, colliding in the air. The pure pressure of both our auras clashing bothers Zakk and Alex, making them uneasy.

Zakk: “You didn’t tell me he was this strong.”

Alex: “We didn’t even know he was this strong, including himself.”

Once again, Harbinger jumps into my shadow.

  Josie: “I’m sick of that.”

I reach into the shadow and pull him out, coating my fist in my aura again landing a powerful punch that breaks the mask hiding its face. To our surprise, he has no face. It’s a skull. It screams in anger, every second it gets louder and more menacing, creating multiple scythes out of pure magic and flinging them at me. Some hit me, some didn't. I charge at the Harbinger, with the intent to fully take it out with these last series of attacks, one scythe piercing my arm again, I push through it, landing another punch to the Harbingers face. Another punch being an uppercut, dashing into the sky with the Harbingers body, I punch it downward straight into the ground. It’s now screaming in pain, I take advantage of this, slamming punches into it’s face repeatedly, watching its skull break to pieces.

Once I’ve killed it, we see the energy of those lives it took, cry as they fly out its lifeless body. Disappearing and going silent. Zakk and Alex run toward me, Alex immediately heals my bleeding arm and Zakk immediately says, “This is history, there’s never been a record of anyone beating such a monster, today you made history. To think you didn’t understand your power, to think you never knew the strength you had. You’re amazing.”

After that statement, there was nothing but silence. The rest of Alex’s team bring the dead members body over, we take it with us as well as the body of the Harbinger, to bring as a souvenir and piece of history forever.
