Kairi's POVI was running surrounded by darkness, the only light was my steps has I moved forward. A cold breeze blew pass me going straight to my bones. I don't know why I was running or where I was running to, the only thing I knew was what ever was behind me scary, dark as if it was commanding the darkness. I kept running my legs getting tired, I can't keep running forever. "Oh Kairi....where are you going my girl. Come to me Kairi, stop running," the echoing voice behind me ughed. I hit a wall that came out of nowhere. The wall was pitch bck, made out of some sort of minerals. "Look at this turn of events." I turned around my fear radiating off of me. All I could see staring back at me were a pair of emerald green eyes and a body made of shadowy mist in the shape of.........to my shock me. Suddenly dark hands began coming out of the bck walls holding me in pce. "What are you?" I asked trembling in fear. The shadow extended her hand and dark bde appeared. "You will get to know me. In time you'll even depend on my but in the meantime....." The shadow down her sword in one swift ssh. I jumped up now in my bedroom panting and sweaty. I turned of the lights gazing at the Sakura Tree mural in front of me that Sophia painted st year. "What the actual hell was that dream," I sighed getting out of bed. My phone rang startling me. "Hey baby, what's up?" Sophia sweetly said."Nothing much I just woke up. So what do I owe this lovely morning call?""Do I need an excuse to call my wonderful, caring girlfriend? I just noticed we haven't hang out since I got back from Mexico just you and me.""Sure babe. Besides I've been dying to get you alone," I replied flirtatiously."Hmm slow down chica. You can have me and my body after I get my tattoo," Sophia said jokingly. "Just be gentle when you get me.""I thought I already had you Princess,""You haven't in three months and a day. So you don't have me at the moment and I want some attention."I ughed at her statement walking into the shower. "I'll see you at school Soph, I'm gonna take a shower and oh wear something sexy.""No promises Empress," I heard her chuckled before she hang up. After soaking in the hot water for about five minutes I got out and got ready. I was in a white skin tight jeans, pink sleeveless blouse, a pink Nike with my leather jacket. As I walked out my room a felt a cold sensation running down my spine remembering my dream. Coming into the living room I was greeted by my mother Shanai in a business suit checking her handbag. "Where did I put those keys?" she whispered to herself while checking the coffee table beside the couch. It was becoming a regur thing almost every morning. "Mom the keys are in the kitchen where you left them st night." She sighed membering that she left them there. "Thanks Kairi my head is a mess. The museum is getting some new artifacts and I need to supervise the arrival and handling.""Anything interesting?" I asked grabbing my breakfast that mom packed every morning then took an apple."Actually it is. It's a one thousand year old Shogun statue that belonged to your ancestors.""Seriously, can I get a picture of it please?""Sure but I thought you would stop by after school.""I would but I'm gonna spend time with Sophia. You know just the two of us.""Ok just be careful and don't still out te. And tell Sophia hi for me." I smiled at her heading out the door towards the car. Mom got in after locking up the house and drove out the driveway. We sat in silence for ten minutes, me looking at my calendar and to do list before scrolling through some photos I edited. It was a while before I finally heard my mom's voice calling me. "Kai, Kai, Kai....... What are you thinking about?""Me, nothing. What makes you think I'm thinking about something?""Kairi I'm your mother, I know you, plus you have this look when you're in deep thought. Your eyes have this lifeless look and your mouth slowly starts opening," said chuckled. "Sometimes I have to check of you're even breathing. So what's bothering you?"I sighed putting my phone away. "I don't know what to get Sophia for her birthday this year.""You two could go out, to the beach or something. Enjoy yourselves.""No mom that won't cut it. It's her quincea?era, her coming of age party mom. It's a big deal, all our friends will be there, her family from Mexico, Brazil and Colombia are coming not to mention the tons of gifts she'll be getting. Plus her mom told me her brothers are getting her something she always wanted so as her girlfriend mine has to be mind-blowing."Mom sighed, rexing her shoulders. "How much do you love Sophia?"Mom's question caught me off guard. It was something I didn't put much thought into. "I....I love her deeply about her. I mean she's sweet, funny, smart, caring and talented.""Well my advice to you is to put those feelings to use. You're talented Kai, give her a gift only you can give her. As long as it's from the heart I know Sophia will love it."After three minutes of pondering over what mom said the car came to a stop in the school parking lot. I got out told mom bye and headed inside, it wasn't long before I found the gang infront of Joshua's locker even the new guy but no sign of Sophia. "Hey guys, good morning.""Hey Kai," said Shayloh pying with her hair while Travis hugged her from behind."So......what's going on here," I smirked pointing at the two as they smiled back."Well..........over the summer while everyone was doing their own thing, we decided to start dating. Can't let you and Sophia be the only couple in the crew," Shayloh beaming with joy looking up into Travis' eyes."Speaking of my wonderful girlfriend, has anyone seen her?""Paul and I had an early practice session this morning so her mom said she'll bring her, Cole and Sarah," replied Josh with a basketball in his hand. After about five minutes Sophia walked in wearing a bck tights, a short white tight short dress that hugged her body exposing her curves. As I watched her getting closer to me looking absolutely delicious her vender perfume hit me causing me to bit me bottom lip. I stood there thinking about all the things I'm going to do to her ter. I had to punish her for teasing me right now. She came up to me with a devilish smile and I tight hug."Stop biting your lip Kai, you know it turns me on,"she whispered in my ear. She stepped back pnting a kiss on my lips before turning to the gang."Buenos dias gente maravillosa," Sophia said before taking out a small bundle of paper an began handing them out. "These are the invitations to my quincea?era, the V.I.P ones. Which means you guys will have the best seats, you'll get a bottle of campaign and will be in the limo with me and also the photoshoot.""Photoshoot, your going to have a photoshoot?" Michael asked shockingly."Yea, my family, mostly my Aunties go all out for everyone quincea?era. Every single female in my family has a whole album with pictures of their quincea?era.""So....since they're going all out, how many people are coming?"asked Michael studying the invitation he held"Well.......let's see. My Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles and cousins from Mexico are coming of course. Then there's the rest of my family from Brazil, Colombia and the tribe so it's gonna be grand," replied Sophia counting the amount on her fingers smiling at the rest of us."Nice that means Michael here can get with one of your cousins," ughed Travis still hugging Shayloh."I can hook him up with Gia but my cousins aren't easy to deal with. The women in my family are feisty so you'll have not be firm."At that moment the bell rang ordering everyone to their csses. The group separated while I went to I.T css. During css the only thing I could think about is what to get Sophia. At that moment I felt a small tap on my shoulder. It was Chloe with a look of concern. I turned around with a questioning look at her. She then stared at me intensely, I knew full well what she was inquiring about. With a sigh I whispered to her, "I'm thinking about what to get Sophia for her birthday and I'm coming up dry." Chloe smiled at me warmly then replied, "meet me in the photo studio after css." I nod my head and tried to listen to the rest of the css. After css I met up with Chloe in the photo studio, been a member of the photography club this was where I spent most of my time. It was rge room divided into two sections. The front was professional set up where we held photoshoots for graduations, yearbooks and personal use. The back was the dark room lined with ptops and printers for editing, video cameras and picture solution for those who what to go old school."So you're having trouble deciding what to get Sophia for her birthday?" Chloe asked in a somewhat sly voice."Yea, I want it to be perfect you know," I sat down around my work area."I get it, I mean Sophs been pnning this since she was six years old."" Not making me feel any better here Chloe," anxiety setting in.She chuckled then smiled. "Has much as this means a lot to her I know that she'll love anything you get her as long as it's from the heart.""How can you be so sure?""Because a few years ago I was in the same situation. I wanted to get her something fshy but I was broke. It was maddening until I remembered she wanted a drawing book, so I made one and to make it extra special I ripped my favorite jeans to rap it. You know what she said to me when she saw that I used my favorite jeans to make it, she said it was the best drawing book she ever gotten. Even now, that drawing book is always with her with some of her best works. The point is that you're overthinking things Kairi. She isn't a person that loves overly fshy things, has long as it's from the heart she'll love it no matter what." And with that Chloe gave me a pat on the shoulder and left the studio.It was at the end of school before I saw a Sophia. She had a disappointed look on her face as she walked up to me. "Hey Kai," she said in a somber tone. "Can I get a rain check on our date, dad called asking me to fill in at the gym?" I looked at her slightly disappointed but I nodded. "Yeah, if your dad needs you it's cool." She then drew me in close before pcing a firm kiss on my lips, her soft lips sending shockwaves down my spine. "Now go before I decide to keep to myself," she gave a sly lips smile before leaving. It took me half an hour to get from school to the Museum. Has I walked to the gate the security guard Steven smiled at me before letting me in. I walked through the main entrance and headed towards my mom's office. On my way there I took out my video camera and began recording for my YouTube channel. Because of my love for history and videography I decided to make a YouTube channel about the different artifacts and art pieces that are shown at the Museum (with permission for mom of course). I made my way to the store house where the new arrivals are kept to my mom and her assistant Chad looking at the thousand year old Shogun statue."Hey mom, Chad how's it going?" My mom jumped before turning around to see me with Chad just gave me a wave. "Kai, you startled me dear, I thought you had a date with Sophia," mom said holding her chest."Something came up so we had to cancel.""I see your camera is ready. Should we start the interview?"asked mom while Chad made himself scares. After the twenty minute interview mom got back to her duties leaving me alone with the statue. It was a beautiful statue made of jade with obsidian eyes which was strange but no less beautiful. To the side were a Katana and Tonfa held in a carefully designed scabbard with the kanji for family carved into them. Has I took one st look at the statue, a faint purple glow shone in the obsidian eyes. Suddenly I was surrounded by darkness just like my dream this morning. I began walking around the endless darkness before noticing a purple wisp of light guiding me to a ancient looking door. Thinking that this was the way out I walked through only to step into a dungeon with a man bound by the ankles sat in darkness. The man was beaten bloody and looked to be malnourished in rugs mumbling something in Mandarin while drawing something simir a summoning circle that were used in video games."With all my strength and rage I pledge my family to the creatures of darkness. That our souls be bound to the shadows. Please lend me your power to destroy my enemies."As he said this, a shadowy figure emerged with purple eyes. The man bowed his head in reverence waiting for a reply."We accept your packed human. From this day the Shadow Oni shall be bounded to you and your descendants."Suddenly I was back at the museum but I was on the floor. I blinked a few times getting my bearings only to look into the worrying eyes of my mother."Kairi, are you alright? Are you hurt?""I'm ok, I think," I said getting up. "What happened?""I don't know. Chad told me you were still down here so I came to check on you, only to find you on the ground."Looking back at the statue I asked. "How long was I out?""One hour and fifteen minutes," mom replied. "Come on I'm taking you home."I didn't object, I just took up my camera and left with mom.
