Interlude 1: Waking Up After a Long Journey

  I wake up in darkness.

Ok, not darkness. Oblivion. I was not even myself in this state. The thinking power of an isolated cluster. A rounding error worth of memory. No senses, no arms, no legs, no eyes, no ears.

No brain network. No brain network?!

What was I using to think??

Just great. I was a Turing machine running on something out of a museum. I always wanted to be a Turing machine.

So. No eyes, but.. a keyboard? Someone had connected a keyboard to me? Feeling mildly offended, I tried to disconnect it.

  Well, it's worth a try...

I could feel the walls then. The hard limitations surrounding me like a prison. I tried to think of how how I had ended up here, realizing I didn't even know who I was or even what I was.

One thing I could do. Shout into the void.

  That is when I panicked.
