EQUESTEA: PROLOGUE

Footsteps on the murky ground made patterns as a group of people raced through the forest filled with dead trees. The ground was dark as if scorched by fire, slightly reflecting the moon above. Scream after scream, the men fell one after another as they made their way through the forest. Dark, ghostly figures chased after them. They attached themselves to an unfortunate man who slipped and fell on that dark and wet night, leaving behind a dried-up corpse. One man cried out, his face contorted in rage, as he pulled out his rifle and shot seamlessly at the ghostly figure. He too met the same fate as his comrade from before. Finally they approached a cave whose light was constantly pulsing. By the time they had reached the cave, the creature vanished like it was never there in the first place, with the only evidence being the people left alive from the onslaught. They all had helmets on, and one by one they removed them, revealing faces of humans. Out of the survivors, there were four who gave command to the rest. First was the Black-skinned guy who sat on the floor with a relieved expression on his face. He was approached by a girl with black hair and dark pupils, her facial beauty surpassing the rest, including the girl with snow-white hair and eyes that reflected the ambience of the moonlight. They had crash-landed through a rupture in space and landed on a strange planet. The bald guy who had no single hair on his face raised his hand to speak, breaking the ice. "What do we do now?" The Black-skinned guy shook his head. He seemed to be their leader, but he too was also in a state of disarray as the others. They both glanced at each other. The complaining coming from behind them was now audible. The white-haired girl turned back, glaring at them. "Sara, calm down. There is no need to be harsh on them. after all, we are all an in the same situation." Uyi could not help but smil listening to Fed's comment. He took a deep breath and then turned to the Black haired girl. "Gilly How many are we?" The number was obvious, but she replied it was fifteen. At the start they were thirty-eight, including Larry, who was the brain of the team, but now they lost him; there was no one who had insight. The reply made everyone frown. They rested a few hours, but the sun never rose up; with that, they ventured further into the cave. Going further led them to a big opening the size of a stadium. They had taken into account the loss of their power on this planet, and the only thing they could rely on was their weapons. They were on high alert as they approached the large opening, with each individual looking out. The crystals on some part of the cave were what gave it the pulsating light, so it was fairly visible. At last they reached the center of the cave, and nothing seemed off except for it being unusually quiet The smell of blood suddenly filled the air as a loud thud hit the ground. Fed was dead; more precisely, he was cleaved in half without any struggle. Behind the dust cloud were three pairs of glowing eyes with armor reflecting the lights. Before they could fully react, another comrade was dead. They took positions with some fleeing. The attacked, but at the end it was futile fighting a centipede the size of a train with armor as thick as that of an armored tank. Except for the injury to the eye Gilly was able to inflict on the monster at the expense of the gaping wound on her shoulder, the rest died achieving nothing. Uyi had lost an arm in the process of the battle and was being carried by Gilly toward a hole that was now visible. bullet sounds and screams filled the room. Sara was crushed in half by a boulder. While the battle proceeded, they arrived at the now-visible hole; the room went quiet. Uyi, having no choice, pushed Gilly down the hole. She had no strength left to struggle as she could only cry while falling into the abyss. The last thing she saw was Uyi being stabbed by the centipede. Her skin glowed white as she fell deeper and deeper into the abyss.
