Near Death

My tendrils along the ceiling pumped out dark energy thickening the miasma but as time went on the strange power of the Geitlan pushed back my miasma more and more. The Lactera demon walked in front of the Geitlan demon and the bird demon, placing its hands on the sand. From its hands, the sand melted and it pushed forward melting the sand creating a line of melted sand that expanded. The line reached the miasma and almost reached the black sand before stopping completely. The Lactera demon tried to pump even more power into the sand but it just caused the line to become wider and stopped when the line was wide enough to allow 3 fire imps to walk down it shoulder to shoulder. The miasma stopped the line from reaching the black sand by sucking the power that the Lactera demon was pushing into it and soon the melted sand hardened but still carried traces of imps essence.

The pair of demons walked forward, and the Geitlan kept pushing back the miasma despite my efforts to thicken it. “Burrow deeper into the sand and move away from them. Skitters circle them and meet the worms behind the fire imps.” I echo out and the Geitlan snapped its head at the ceiling but continued to move down the rock that the Lactera made. “Imps, stay here and kill anything that comes this way.” One of the larger imps said before following the pair with the rest of the demons. “I’ll stay here just in case.” The other large demon says as it looks up at the miasma that was pushing against the Geitlan’s power. The Lactera demon snorted and followed the rest of the demons down the rock it had made.

My worms listened and followed the skitters avoiding the demons meeting behind the fire imps. The demons walked past the edge and became surrounded by the miasma. The Geitlan’s power made a bubble of power that my miasma couldn’t enter despite my best efforts to thicken the miasma more. As they got closer to the black sand my tendrils under the sand had finally reached beyond the black sand and they burrowed upward to stop them. Tendrils grew downward from the ceiling but as they reached halfway down the Lactera demon grabbed handfuls of sand melting it and throwing it up at the ceiling. The tendrils burn but the miasma sucks the power out of the melted sand turning them into balls of rock that fall to the sand before reaching the ceiling.

They reached the edge of the line and the Lacter demon stepped down sending the line across the black sand and into a pool. Tendrils attacked the line from below using fragments causing the line to explode as the Lactera tried to push more power forward. More tendrils reached down and entered the bubble, absorbing the Geitlan's power to hold back the miasma. The bubble shrunk and the large demon wrapped flames around its hands slashing the tendrils. “Hurry you damn bastard. We need to reach that damn shade before my power runs out.” The Geitlan yelled at the Lactera who pushed even more power into forming the line. The pool in the way of the line boils despite my efforts to stop the power and through the tendrils I could feel the pool slowly die before turning into the same rock as the line. The demons moved forward as I destroyed the line behind it and the pool. ‘Damit I need to stop that Geitlan or they will undo everything I have made.’ I thought to myself as I laid fragments across the sand as more tendrils attacked from above.

They burned the tendrils as they walked over the dead pool and kept repeating the process over and over. Several more pools died as they made their way straight for me but with each stop they made the bubble shrinks more and more. The Geitlan and the bird have started to heave while the Lactera demon has slowed down. Tendrils constantly burn and fragments explode the line but despite my best efforts, they continue forward as I feel the Lactera demon’s power burn my pool. As they reach my pool I am releasing as much dark power as I can and had embedded the area around my pool with fragments but all it does is disrupt the Lactera’s power but nothing to that damn bubble. The Geitlan demon charges power and releases into the air expanding the bubble over my pool. It lets go of the bird that falls to the ground and the Geitlan catches its breath. “We need to hurry I already feel that blackness eating at the barrier.” The Geitlan says as it walks over to my pool and I launch countless tendrils at it.

It waves its hand wrapped in flames and the tendrils burn before they can reach it. The Lactera rushes past the Geitlan to me and ignores the tendrils that I send its way, they burn as soon they touch it. As it reaches the edge it kneels and sticks its hands into my pool and I feel everything boil in pain. “Stop I need to extract its essence.” The Geitlan says as it moves to stop the Lactera demon but the large imp gets in its way. “You can extract whatever is left once it's all burned away. We can’t give it even more time to stop us, it has already drained too much of our power.” The Lactera says to the Geitlan but I barely listen as I boil and my tendrils writhe in pain.

No matter how much dark energy I take from the crystals and the miasma I feel my pool slowly solidify. I try to stab crystals into the Lactera demon but they melt before they touch them. “It's like trying to use water to extinguish a volcano.” I hear Rat’s voice in the back of my mind as I lose even more ground against the Lactera demon. The black sand around my pool has melted and cooled down turning into rock that carries that Lactera’s essence. I am slowly being trapped under the weight of this one demon’s power despite me pooling everything into stopping it. ‘How could one demon hold so much power?’ I thought to myself as I felt my connection to everything slipping. ‘Wait the ceiling, the pool of blood with all the fragments.’ I had already pulled out all the fragments in the pool to use against the demons but the pool might share some of that anti-imp essence that the fragments.

With the last of my strength, I pull on the stalactite that enters my pool. All of my tendrils that were on its surface had been burned away but some were still inside of it. I pulled the stalactite away from the demons cracking the shadow stone. The Lactera sees what I’m doing and pushes even more power into me but it's too late as the stalactite breaks in half where all the blood is kept. The blood flows over the demons and burns them crippling the large imp and killing the bird demon. Blue flames exploded out consuming everything as the Geitlan demon used its strange power to push itself into the air and the Lactera demon tried to endure the flames. The large imp runs away and out of the bubble into the miasma, it won’t live long out there.

The pressure from the Lactera demon disappears as it moves its power to fight against the flames, “See, it still has some moves left.” The Lactera demon says to the Geitlan as the Geitlan tries to stop the flames as the stalactite sinks into my pool. As their attention is away from me I lift the stalactite twisting it around and pointing the edge at the Lactera demon. Tendrils wrap around its legs stopping it from moving as I launch the stalactite into its chest. It pushes the demon out of the bubble as the tendrils left inside of the stalactite burrow into the Lactera. The bubble soon collapses due to the miasma and the flying stalactite so the Geitlan grabs some of that strange power making a small bubble around itself. It looks at the large imp that has collapsed on the black sand and the Lactera demon before flying toward the pillar of fire. The Lactera demons yell at the Geitlan while trying to melt the shadow stone of the stalactite but it doesn’t work. Blood from the stone seeps into its body burning away its power even faster as my tendrils tore apart its insides. The Lactera tries to pull out the stalactite but the tendrils tear its muscles and it's too weak to stop anything. A tendril snakes out of my pool grabs its leg and slowly pulls the demon into my pool. I will not let it go to waste.
