Chapter 3- Going outside

I woke up on the following day feeling a bit better. Most of the pain was gone, but that didn't mean I was feeling well. My center of mass was completely off thanks to my new tail and wings, so walking was a bit difficult.

That knight from yesterday had left right after telling me that I would be transported somewhere today. He would probably arrive soon, so I readied myself for some more acting. I couldn't let them suspect that I wanted to run away, after all.

"Good morning, Project Dragonfly. Here is your food. Eat, Sir Tomate will come soon. Do not make him wait." (???)

It was one of the researchers that said that. He was wearing an alchemist uniform, so I assumed he was one despite not recognising him. He pced a bowl of some tasteless sludge in the cell through the bars before leaving. Well, seems like it was the same stuff as usual, actually. The "food" was probably closer to some sort of potion than actual food, but it didn't taste too bad.

Looking around my cell while eating, I took everything in. Soon, I would be out of this pce, never to see it again. And well, I couldn't exactly say that I was going to miss it.

When shortly after I was done eating, Sir Tomate, who turned out to be the knight I saw the previous day, walked in front of my cell.

"Project Dragonfly, get over here and follow me. Do not try anything funny or justice shall be delivered swiftly." (Sir Tomate)

"Alright, I wouldn't want to disapoint our glorious emperor." (Dragonfly)

The urge to gag was just as intense as st time. Luckily, I managed to hide it. I felt a primal disgust at the very idea of submitting to that emperor.

Ignoring that, I started following behind the knight as soon as he opened the door. We passed through some hallways that I had never seen before going up a staircase. In front of us was what appeared to be a rge metal door. However, when Sir Tomato opened it, I was awestruck. Outside was a whole blue sky and mountains covered in snow. The sea of white was rger than anything I'd seen before. Those must have been the mountains of the Gcius empire that I had heard about from one of the few alchemists who actually bothered talking to me. Apparently some of them were so high that no one had ever managed to reach their peak.

After I was done looking around, Sir Tomate brought me to a wooden carriage surrounded by half a dozen more imperial knights.

  "Go in." (Sir Tomate)

I complied, only to have a chain wrapped around my ankle by the knight, preventing me from running away. This was going to be an issue. I decided that I still had time to figure something out, however. It was not yet time for desperate measures. After all, the capital was at least a few days away. I had some time before needing to resort to desperate measures.

'Alright, first things first, what tools do I have. Well, my clothes don't have much use with how ragged they are. Tho I am a bit confused, wasn't the outside supposed to be really cold? How am I fine? Did dragon blood give me immunity to cold temperatures? No, off topic. I need to pn an escape. Can my magic let me escape?'

After a bit more thinking, I realised that I really only had one way to get the chain off me. I would need to use space magic to do something. I didn't even know how to do magic properly, so making fire out enough to melt through the chain wasn't an option. Plus, that would grab the attention of the knights. Ignoring the unknown affinity, my only other option was space magic. It should be possible to teleport away to get out of the chains, but I didn't really know how to do that.

And so, while the carriage began moving, surrounded by knights, I started trying to use magic. I already knew how to move my mana, but not how to do anything else. I started by trying to teleport the dust that was on the ground a few inches over.

By the end of the day, I had figured out a few things. First, I could teleport dust a bit, but I had nowhere near enough mp to teleport myself anywhere. Second, I needed to touch what I wanted to teleport. Finally, I needed to see the destination directly to teleport something. It was limited, but it could help. However, I was starting to feel tired after using magic all day. Deciding to leave further testing for another time, I listened to what the knights were saying while sitting around a campfire.

"Are you guys sure that we can leave the test subject in the carriage like that? It could get frostbite or something. Wouldn't want to get in trouble for that." (Irrelevant knight 1)

"It has dragon blood. You know what that means, right? It's pretty much immune to both cold and warm temperatures. It won't freeze to death or anything." (Irrelevant knight 2)

"Ah, well I'm certainly not immune to cold temperatures. Thankfully we'll arrive at the capital in just two more days. I hate staying out here." (Irrelevant knight 1)

Well, that was bad. I only had two days to get out of here. Escaping from a group of seven trained knights wasn't an easy task at all. One of them eventually remembered to give me food before going to sleep, at least.
