Parking next to the cabin, Aria looked in her rearview mirror and saw Steve's truck. Making its way down the path and parking next to her car.
Stepping out, Tommy and his twins helped unload the truck while Aria went to the cabin.
Pulling out her phone, Aria opened the key app to unlock the door. The locks clicking open, Aria pushed the door open before running back to her friends and helping them unload.
Bringing in two coolers, Jason let out a whistle, "This place is nice Aria."
"Your Aunt is so lucky to have a husband with taste," Aster teased.
"Nah, that's still my Aunt, my Uncle built the house, but my Aunt had the final say on the floor plan," Aria explained, "It was his anniversary present to her. So he just said 'yes dear' to what she wanted and got to work."
"Go Uncle Pitch," Jason said.
After everything was inside, the rooms were assigned and everyone did their part to help make a late lunch.
Bellies full, the friends dressed for the lake and made their way out.
"Cannonball!" Aria called out, jumping off the patio rail with Jason.
Landing in the water, they created a huge splash. Small waves lapped up the beams that held the patio up and grew smaller and smaller as it reached the shoreline.
Breaking the water surface to take in some air, Aria called out, "Tommy! Can you toss me my goggles?"
"Sure!" Tommy answered and threw the blue swim gear to their best friend.
Catching them, Aria adjusted them over her eyes and called out a, "Thank you!", before diving underwater.
"What does she need those for?" Kouya asked, carrying a volleyball.
The five remaining friends made their way down the patio steps. Not entertaining Jason and Aria's way of entering the lake.
"Probably looking for rocks," Tommy answered, "She likes to collect them."
The only one who didn't enter the lake was Aster. Deciding to stay on the bank and soak in the sun.
Far away from Kousuke, Kouya, and Steve's game of water volleyball, Tommy enjoyed their time floating on the lake's surface.
Underneath them, Aria swam the lake floor. Examining every rock she could find. Whichever ones interested her, Aria put them in her netted bag. All the rest were returned to where she found them.
Then there was Jason, helping Aria in his special way.
Meaning he wasn't helpful at all.
From time to time, Jason would grab a handful of random rocks and dump them in her bag.
After the fifth time of swatting him away, Aria swam at him. Chasing Jason out of the lake, and dropping her bag next to Aster on the way out.
"I will make you sleep outside with the Water Elk and Timber Cats!" Aria yelled, making Jason laugh.
Legs growing soar, Aria stopped her pursuit. Silently cursing the former futbol player.
This made the Pyro User laugh louder, cheering in victory.
"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up!" Aria scolded teasingly, snatching up her bag as she made her way to the cabin, "Just remember, your room doesn't have a lock!"
Joy left Jason's body instantly, his heart sinking to the bottom of his stomach.
"Better start begging for forgiveness," Aster hummed, "Steve! Can you put sunblock on my back?"
"On my way my Sweets!" Steve declared.
Bopping the volleyball to Kouya, Steve made his way to his girlfriend.
"Jason," Tommy called to their best friend, "If you want to be back on Aria's good side, I'll help you find more rocks."
Wasting no time, Jason sprinted into the lake. Diving down to its floors with Tommy.
Best friends searching for rocks and the couple sunbathing together, it left the twins to themselves.
Glancing at each other, they silently agreed to head inside as well.
Walking into the cabin, the first thing they saw was Aria, sitting cross-legged on the floor. No longer in her bikini, but in shorts and a crop top. Damper hair clipped into a bun, organizing her rocks into three piles.
Hearing the front door open, Aria looked away from her task. Smiling at the twins, she gave them a small wave.
"Hey, you guys need towels?" Aria asked.
"That'd be nice," Kousuke answered, staying at the entrance so as not to bring water and dirt into the house.
Reaching behind her, Aria threw a towel at each of them.
"What are you doing?" Kouya asked, sitting across from Aria after drying off.
"Separating the ones I like from the ones I don't like," Aria answered, and pointed to the third pile, "I don't know about those yet."
"When did you start collecting rocks?" Kouya asked before nodding to his twin when he pointed at the room, silently saying he was going to change.
"Thirteen? I think?" Aria answered confused, "No, I was twelve, it was a week before my thirteenth birthday."
"Kousuke has a collection," Kouya added.
"Really?!" Aria asked excitedly.
"Yeah," Kouya smiled, "It's small though 'cause he only likes the ones that have blue in them. He keeps them in a tray on the table."
"That's such a cool idea!" Aria praised, "All of mine are in jars right now, I look like a hoarder," she giggled, going back to her sorting.
"Tommy doesn't want them around the apartment?" Kouya asked confused.
"No, they don't mind, I just can't figure out where to put them," Aria answered.
Spying the lion silhouette on Kouya's ankle, Aria complimented it with a "Nice tattoo."
"Thanks!" Kouya smiled, looking down at it, "It's the only spot I could think to get it. My mom was worried about me getting one."
Done separating the rocks, Aria used the towel with the liked rocks in it and rubbed the extra dirt off.
"She doesn't like tattoos? Buy Kousuke has a full sleeve?" Aria questioned.
"No, it's not that," Kouya explained, "It's because I got it a few weeks after my top surgery. She read somewhere that getting a tattoo while on painkillers isn't the best idea."
"And good thing I was there because you did pass out," Kousuke said, throwing his towel at Kouya's face.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"Hey!" Kouya protested, his voice muffled.
"Mom made him promise not to get another tattoo until he was off painkillers and completely recovered," Kousuke added, sitting down by Aria.
"I just wanted the one!" Kouya defended himself.
"Do you have any tattoos?" Kousuke asked Aria, ignoring his pouting twin.
"Not yet, I wanted to get a Rosy Maple Moth, but Hueco only has one artist and he's a creep," Aria answered, and opened the towel, making a face at all the dirt.
Taking that as a queue, Kouya made his way to the room to change.
"I could do it for you," Kousuke offered.
Looking over at him quickly, Aria's eyes widened in wonder.
"You tattoo?" Aria asked.
"Not full-time, it doesn't bring enough money yet," Kousuke answered.
Pulling out his phone, Kousuke opened his QuickPic and handed his phone to Aria.
Quickly wiping any dirt from her hands to her shorts, Aria grabbed the phone. Scrolling through each post, Aria's eyebrows started to furrow.
Something about a few of these tattoos looked familiar.
Looking at Kousuke's username, Aria's eyes widened in shock.
"You're 'Tattooed Okami'?!" Aria asked surprised.
"Yeah, do you follow me?" Kousuke asked confused.
"Yeah! I started following you when you were at about a thousand followers," Aria answered, looking back at Kousuke's phone, she searched his followers list for her name, "I went on a liking spree when I found you and commented almost every day."
Showing Kousuke his phone, the Radiant User took it back and stared at the profile.
There was a variety of flower pictures, a lot of coffee pictures, and a sprinkle of selfies featuring Aria and Tommy. It represented the Terra User perfectly.
"'Huecos Woodland Fairy'? Wait, did you used to have a profile picture where you were wearing cat ears and fairy wings?" Kousuke asked.
"Oh my Goddess, you saw that?" Aria was horrified, to say the least.
"You liked ten of my posts in under a minute! One was from the year before!" Kousuke reminded the blond.
"No!" Aria wailed, covering her blushing face, embarrassment washing over her.
Chuckling, Kousuke looked down at his phone again. The Terra User's current profile picture looked back up at him.
No longer was she wearing the cat ears and fairy wings. Instead, her hair was in space buns, and she wore a black, overall, romper. In her arms were three potted succulents: one pink, the middle purple, and the last one blue. Behind her was a garden, one side was vegetable and slowly turned into a flower garden.
Glancing over at Aria, Kousuke smirked seeing her sorting her "unknown" rocks into two piles now. Purposefully trying to keep her eyes off of him, cheeks still a violent pink.
Looking back at Aria's profile, the purple "follow back" button stared up at him.
The sound of bells ringing radiated out of Aria's phone. Ignoring the sound, Aria stayed focused on her task. Wanting to get it done and hope that the small project will make her forget her embarrassment.
Another crescendo of bells sounded.
Then another.
And another.
And another.
It was at the tenth chime that Aria finally grabbed her phone. Annoyed that it was distracting her, she was going to simply silence the device.
Until she saw multiple notifications from QuickPic's. Opening the app, Aria almost dropped her phone.
Not only did Kousuke follow her back, but had liked her much older posts. The more embarrassing ones.
The worst part?
He was still liking the older posts!
"No! Stop!" Aria shrieked, lunging for Kousuke's phone.
Standing up quickly, the sudden action made Aria fall to the floor. The continued ringing of notifications made Aria shoot back up and chase after Kousuke.
Not running from her, Kousuke just raised his arm in the air. Keeping his phone out of Aria's reach.
"Kousuke," Aria whined, trying to jump for the phone.
"Hold on, one more, one more," Kousuke teased.
"That's more than 'one more'!" Aria complained, "Kouya! Your brother is bullying me!"
"Alright, alright, I'm done," Kousuke promised with a laugh, putting his phone away.
Turning away from Kousuke to her phone, Aria opened QuickPic and wanted to crawl inside her skin and die. All of her old, cringy, posts were liked. What sealed it all, was Kousuke's comment on a picture. The one of her in cat ears and fairy wings.
'My number one fan <3'
The sound of hurried footsteps approached the cabin. Followed by the door slamming open by Jason. In his hand was a bag full of rocks.
Before he could say anything, Aria bellowed out: "Jason! I will forgive you if you annoy Kousuke for ten minutes!"
"That's it?!" Jason asked with a wide grin on his lips, eyes sparkling with joy.
"Yes!" Aria confirmed.
"Hey, Kousuke, busy, my dude-"
"I will post that video and tag you," Kousuke responded, already getting annoyed with the Pyro User.
"Sorry Aria, no can do," Jason groaned, walking over to her, "I did find more rocks, I listened to Tommy and made sure to get ones you like."
Letting out a dramatic sigh, Aria accepted the bag.
"Are you ever, not, going to hold that over my head?" Jason asked Kousuke.
"I will never delete that video, Jason," Kousuke promised.
"I'm making dinner," Aria grumbled, making her way into the kitchen.
In the time it took Aria to prep the food, Kouya finished changing and was helping her make dinner.
The younger twin ordered Kousuke and Jason to stay out of the kitchen. They were only allowed to set the table and that's it. No arguments were made between the Radiant and Pyro User: the two most unlucky people in the kitchen.
Before Aria had joined the group, the six thought it would be fun to have a potluck. Everyone would make their favorite dish or something they wanted to try and they would hang out in Aster's garden. It was lovely at first, Tommy brought vegan chicken sliders, Aster made her family Haupia, Steve grilled snapper-gator, and Kouya made his mom's cheesecake.
What did Kousuke and Jason bring? Burgers.
With a twist.
They decided amongst each other this would be a competition on who could make the best burger. That's not too bad, except Kouya made burgers out of ground-up squid and crab, and Jason's was any type of pork and beef he had. It doesn't stop there, Kouya made a soy sauce mustard to go with his, and Jason made a spicy ketchup.
The only one who was safe, but had to nurse their friends after being sick, was Tommy.
Since then, Kousuke and Jason have been banned from cooking anything. Anytime Jason tried, Tommy would throw away the food.
Before it was dusk, Steve and Aster had returned. Once the couple was changed, they helped Jason and Kousuke by putting finished food on the set table. Together the seven ate, talked and jokes were tossed around. Enjoying each other's company, and the nice breeze flowing in from the open windows.
At peace thanks to the solitude and quiet that only being outside of the city can provide.
Dusk turning into night, Tommy made coffee to pair with Steve's vegan chocolate muffins, and everyone moved outside.
Sitting comfortably on the patio, the friends had the perfect view of the sparkling lake. The three moons reflected on the still crystal surface. Crickets chirped while frogs croaked. Everything worked together to create a comfortable atmosphere.
"Man, your Uncle picked the right spot," Steve complimented and hummed happily when Aster snuggled closer to him.
"I'll pass on the good news," Aria giggled.
"I could get used to this," Jason sighed, leaning his chair back so he could prop his feet up on the patio rails.
"Not in six days, it's gonna be the mating season for the Marsh Bull Frogs then and this place will be crawling with frogs for two months," Aria hummed, taking a sip of her coffee.
"Eww!" Jason and Aster shrilled in disgust.
"Can we stay longer?" Tommy asked hopeful.
"No!" Jason and Aster snapped making the group laugh.
With only three rooms, everyone had a roommate. One room was for Steve and Aster, while another was for Jason and Tommy. The last room was for Kouya, Kousuke, and Aria.
Slowing down back to a calm night, one by one the friends went to their assigned rooms.
The first ones to bed were Steve and Aster, then Tommy. Not long after, Jason and Kouya left for bed.
Leaving Kousuke and Aria outside. The two enjoyed the cool air a bit longer.
"I'm so glad I came," Kousuke sighed, leaning back in his chair, "Don't hesitate to invite me again."
"Totally," Aria promised, looking up at the three moons.
The yellow moon was an upside-down crescent tonight. The blue waning gibbous was to its right and the pink waxing gibbous was to its left. Their combined glow created a green hue in the amethyst sky.
"You'll have to bring your bass next time, we can have a jam session," Aria hummed.
Snorting back a chuckle, Kousuke said, "Sure, as long as you sing and play the triangle."
"That's fair," Aria grinned at her friend.
"When are we going to the cave again? Tomorrow?" Kousuke asked.
"Yeah," Aria answered, her grin turning into a beaming smile, "I'm so excited! Ya'll are gonna love it!" she sat on her hands to keep from talking with them too much.
Turning from the moons to look at Aria, Kousuke grinned. The way she crossed her legs and curled her toes was adorable. Rocking herself side to side, she looked like a child wanting, oh so badly, to spill a secret.
"What's the plan for the next day?" Kousuke asked.
"Kouya brought the fishing poles, there's a stream that's good for fishing so we're gonna go there with Tommy, Steve, and Jason," Aria explained, "I invited Aster but she declined. She wants to take a selfie day."
Snorting, Kousuke shook his head, "How did I become friends with her?"
"Because she's not afraid to speak her mind, doesn't think less of herself, and will make you cry with her words," Aria answered, making the Radiant User laugh.
The way Kousuke laughed made Aria's heart flip.
It wasn't loud and boisterous, but smooth like when the wind makes trees dance. Shoulders bouncing up and down, shaking like the leaves, and bouncing off the open air to travel around Aria.
Sounding so happy, Aria wanted to hear it again.
"You want to come with us?" Aria asked.
"Yeah, I was planning on exploring, but I can do that after," Kousuke answered.
"Watch out for White Ash Trees, one or two is fine, but any more and you'll want to turn around. Pure Owls live in them and they aren't afraid to attack," Aria warned.
"Pure Owls live out here?" KOusuke asked surprised and Aria nodded, "Thanks for the warning."
"Any time!" Aria answered.
Letting out the biggest yawn, Aria covered it with her shoulder.
Taking that as a sign, the two made their way inside. Dropping their mugs in the kitchen sink on the way to bed.
