Chapter Thirty-Five: One Second Bend
Du Ruhui's family was prominent and his grandfather and father both held high offices. He himself had been known for his wisdom since he was young, and many high-ranking officials considered him to be a talent.
However, what no one expected was that soon after becoming an official, Du Ruhui resigned and returned home. At the time, the whole of Duling was shocked, and everyone couldn't understand why someone would be unwilling to be an official?
In everyone's eyes, this was a suicidal move that would cut off his own future prospects. The entire Du family unanimously believed that Du Ruhui had no chance of making a comeback, and no one would be willing to recommend him again.
If it were in the past when Du Ruhui was at the height of his power, Du Zhao would not have dared to be arrogant in front of him. But now that Du Ruhui is a dismissed official who has returned home, Du Zhao doesn't even take this seventh uncle of his seriously.
"So these two are Seven Uncle's guests! I'm laughing my teeth off! Seven Uncle is really getting more and more out of touch, his taste in friends has become like this, actually playing with two kids in their teens, what about your old classmates? What about the grand gatherings you used to have?" Du Zhao said with a sarcastic tone, bursting into loud laughter.
Du Ruhui's face turned red with anger. Since resigning from office, he had grown accustomed to the coldness and warmth of human relationships. In the past, his home was always filled with guests, but now it was deserted and quiet, with few visitors. His former friends and acquaintances had all disappeared without a trace, and even his own family members were mocking him behind his back.
"Kid, be careful what you say, trouble comes from the mouth. Haven't you learned your lesson yet? My young master is not someone to be judged by you."
Dong Yue heard from Du Zhao's mouth that it involved replacing Wang Gong and Yuntian Princess, and his heart was not pleasant, threatening in a sinister tone.
As soon as Du Zhao saw Dong Yue's expression, his heart skipped a beat. The last time he had just said a few words to that little girl, he was scolded by Dong Yue. He didn't know what trick the other man used, but his ribs were still aching vaguely.
He couldn't help but feel a surge of energy, looked around and saw that he was surrounded by so many servants, his courage grew again. This is the Du family's territory, how could they be overturned?
"Seventh Uncle, this young fellow is not a good sort. Just now we were walking along the road when a little girl crashed into my BMW and didn't even apologize, but instead had her family's servants beat up my younger cousin! Seventh Uncle, you can't just turn a blind eye to this!"
Du Zhao said in a stern voice, "The aristocratic families are the most protective of their own kind. Even if they themselves are wrong, they will still protect each other. Now that these people have actually beaten up Du Zhao, if Du Zhao were to seize on this matter and not let go, the entire Du family would lean towards Du Zhao's side."
"Despicable person, how dare you turn black and white around! You're no good at racing, yet you're still being stubborn!"
Yang Jier saw Du Zhao turning black and white upside down, very angry, jumped off the carriage, pointed at Du Zhao's nose and scolded.
Yang Youlai was unable to stop him, and Yang Jier had already gotten off the carriage, so he could only get off and follow.
As soon as the two got off the car, they immediately attracted everyone's attention. The fact that the mastermind had not shown up yet after all this time made the onlookers curious and eager to see who dared to beat him up.
When two teenagers appeared in front of me, the older one was thirteen or fourteen years old, and the little girl was only around ten years old. They were dressed elegantly, like a golden boy and jade girl, making people feel good about them unintentionally.
Everyone's mind is biased towards Yang You and Yang Jie, and the way they look at Du Zhao is also filled with disdain. I didn't expect that Du Zhao would sink to this point, actually quarreling with two young children, it's really a loss of dignity.
Feeling the change in the eyes of the people around him, Du Zhao secretly became angry. They only saw that the other party was young and didn't they see the twenty or thirty followers standing beside him?!
Du Ruhui couldn't help but pause for a moment, he didn't know that Du Shuang and those people had this level of friction.
At this moment, he fell into a predicament. On one side was his own family and on the other were guests who had come to visit him. Looking at Yang You and Yang Jie's young faces, Du Ruhui confirmed that these two guests were still unfamiliar to him.
"No matter what kind of friction you had with him before, since they came to Duling, they are our exclusive guests. Don't lose the face of our family." Du Ruhui said firmly, since the other party was visiting himself, he must maintain his guest.
Du Zhao couldn't help but hesitate, indeed in this era where reputation is more important than anything else, if the news of bullying a guest really got out, his own reputation would be ruined, and even his own father wouldn't let him off.
Du Wei saw Du Zhao in a dilemma, and after a moment's thought, he walked up to Du Zhao and said: "Sir, this group of people are all dressed in fine clothes and riding angry horses, they look like they're from rich and noble families. But do they have the mark of an aristocratic family? And yet they're acting so ostentatiously, could it be that Da Xing has just produced some new nouveau riche?"
He has always resented Dongyue for riding his horse towards him, now that he's found an opportunity, he wants to take revenge on them, as for whether they are the sons of merchants, Du Wei is also guessing.
Du Wei followed the Du family and was also knowledgeable, when aristocratic families traveled, they generally carried their own signs, while Yang You and others came out, wearing new clothes, with expensive materials, but without any signs of aristocracy.
Du Zhao's eyes lit up as he heard the words, and looking at the people in front of him, their attire indeed did not have the mark of a noble family. Although they didn't lose out to the nobles in terms of appearance, they were vastly different from them, and really resembled some nouveau riche.
In Daxing, every now and then one or two overnight millionaires would appear. These people were usually adventurers on the Silk Road, where profits were staggering but so were the risks.
Often ten don't return with one or two, but as long as they successfully return from the Western Regions, they will be accompanied by enormous wealth. These people are not uncommon, at least Du Zhao has seen some similar ones before.
Du Zhao smiled slightly, with a cold smile in his eyes. These nouveau riche would suddenly become rich, but they were shallow and lacked security, usually relying on which aristocratic family.
But which of these wealthy families would truly care about these merchants, and in the end, they usually swallow up these nouveau riches whole, without even spitting out their bones.
This is a big fat sheep, if we make full use of this conflict, we can definitely cut off a big piece of flesh from them. By doing so, I will have made a great contribution to the family and increased my chances of competing for the position of patriarch in the future.
Thinking of this, Du Zhao's spirit was lifted, and he looked at Yang You as if he had seen a golden mountain. He shouted loudly: "A merchant's son, dare to be arrogant in Duling, I don't think anyone can leave today! Since you've come to Duling, just stay here obediently, I want to see what kind of gods you are!"
"Merchant's son?"
Du Ruhui couldn't help but pause for a moment, his gaze was not something that Du Zhao, this good-for-nothing, could compare to.
A team of thirty sturdy men as attendants, two top-notch four-wheeled carriages, all dressed and mannered to show nobility, without a hint of the smell of a merchant.
This is absolutely a noble, and a top-notch one at that; Du Ruhui trusted his own eyes.
"What's wrong with being a merchant's son?" Yang You retorted.
Du Ruhui stumbled and it turned out he was indeed a merchant's son.
Just one second later, he was bent over.
