[64] The Boss Fight Begins

Bobby sprinted as fast as he could manage out of the arena, the crowd would have probably booed him for it if most of them weren’t mentally processing the fact that cyborgs existed and they had one such example directly in front of them. He once again glanced behind himself as he reached his group, the boss behind him had a hand on James’ shoulder and one on his neck, and with a pull there was a motifying tearing noise as he pulled the head and spine out of the thralls body, silver wires gleaming where they had been implanted next to the nerves.

He shivered at the thought of it happening to him, despite the magic. Then he turned to the rest of the group and began giving out orders. “We need to leave quickly, we do not want to face him this close to the arena, he could expose us really easily.”

Gary nodded and they funneled the skeletons back down the tunnel.

Bobby made sure he was the last to leave, seeing the boss begin sprinting their way, the man would not be able to walk through the passage easily with his arms deployed like that so they would have a tiny bit of time to prepare and potentially also set a trap for him.

He followed the skeletons though the passage, soon returning to the main hallway, where he spotted Michaela and Gary discussing tactics.

“We don’t have long to decide, but how do you think we should take the man down?” Bobby asked Gary.

“I think we should pepper him with bullets while he’s still in the passage and can’t escape, then you need to have your magic ready to incapacitate him as soon as possible, the longer we drag out the engagement the more it favours us, after all he’s one man and although he can do a lot of damage quickly, his stamina won’t be inexhaustible.”

Bobby nodded at the plan, he didn’t think he could come up with anything better in such a short amount of time.

“Perhaps we can collapse some of the ceiling on him as well?” said Michaela, “The concrete these walls are made of could easily crush him like a tin can, no matter how much reinforcement and strength enhancement he has.”

Bobby, deciding not to waste any time, began casting the orb of annihilation while Gary arranged a perimeter around the passage so they could shoot the boss head on as he walked through it.

He put a tiny amount of magic into his spell this time as he wanted the incisions he was about to make on the heavy ceiling to be as unnoticeable as possible.

Bobby’s spell wove its way into existence about the size of a ball bearing, then he released one of the connecting threads like he had done so when they were breaking into the compound of the JJJ. Slowly at first but picking up speed when he was comfortable he spun it in circles before heading over to a section of ceiling a bit further down the tunnel where the boss wouldn’t believe they had set a trap and began swinging it up.

Initially he cut the sides of a great square like area, leaving the corners still attached, he wanted it to be not loose enough to fall when they were fighting, but enough that if it was hit heavily or directly shot at for a prolonged amount of time it would give way.

He was not an expert with materials like this though and he didn’t have as much time as he would have liked for such a task, so he rushed it a bit. When he felt like it was good enough he released his spell and went to join Gary, while weaving a magical filament into existence.

For a moment there was silence, then a horrible scratching noise could be heard in the distance. The whole group waited in silence as the Boss dragged himself out of the darkness and into view, he normally wouldn’t have fitted through, but great gouges were carved into the walls as he forced the passage to accommodate his girth.

Then Gary gave the signal and the skeletons at the entrance began emptying their clips, lighting up the man with their rapidfire. The hulking cyborg's skin gave up pretty quickly as it was shredded off his metal muscles, although he had the mind to protect his face. Due to how the man wasn’t screaming in pain Bobby guessed the skin was just an artificial facade and he didn’t have nerve connections to it.

The metal revealed underneath was most definitely Bitanium as it wasn’t even scratched or dented by the bullets smashing themselves against it. Bobby wondered how deadly an orb of annihilation would be to the man with that much of the material in him, even a brush with the spell in the wrong place could shred all his organs.

He committed the weakness to memory, it would be very useful later if they were losing the fight and could definitely put one of the man's arms out of commission if fighting was proving too difficult.

The boss began roaring as he neared the front of the tunnel, his shredded skin hanging off his metal chest and giving him quite the terrifying appearance. Bobby took a deep breath. Behind him the section of ceiling he’d tried to set up to fall in the fight collapsed prematurely.

  For god's sake.
