Chapter 62: Atos' Treasure (Part 1)
When a man is about to die, his words are good; when a bird is about to perish, its cry is mournful.
In this brief moment of eye contact, Tang Jie clearly saw the kind and benevolent blessing of Old Bar's return to humanity before his death.
This gaze gave him a great shock, and he suddenly remembered how he came to this world and the bits and pieces of his time with Bal. He thought about how this old man had taught him without reservation, pouring out all his knowledge for him.
Tang Jie was suddenly moved!
He watched as Bahl fell down beside him bit by bit, his hand involuntarily reached out to grab and save him, but Bahl's hands deliberately dodged.
The former king of this Atak sea domain left his stage in the most humiliating way, before stepping down, he lost everything.
His glory, his dreams, his companions, his loved ones. When he lost everything, the only thing he could do was to try his best to die with dignity in the last moment.
That's still not enough for people to forgive him for the harm he caused Nia and them!
Tang Jie stared blankly as Old Barl plummeted into the abyss like a shooting star, swallowed by a thick darkness, and gradually disappeared.
After a while, Lirielis, who was thrown into the corridor by William and fainted, woke up. This confused girl had no idea what kind of tragicomedy had just been performed here.
She quickly ran to the edge of the cliff and pulled Nia up, then Nia turned around and pulled William and Bill up.
Then several of them joined forces and used their clothes to tie him up and pull Tang Jie up.
After Tang Jie climbed up the cliff, he knelt down at the edge of the cliff, staring blankly at the bottomless abyss, his eyes were extremely complex.
He suddenly shouted loudly: "Bal!!"
"Ball, ball, ball, ball......"
In the vast stone cave, Tang Jie's shout echoed, from the top of the cave to the depths, getting weaker and weaker, as if following Bal far away.
Nina and William stared blankly at Tangie, no one could understand what kind of emotion was contained in Tangie's loud shout.
Is it anger? Is it resentment? Is it sadness? Is it helplessness?
Tang Jie himself didn't know until he felt a gentle hand lightly placed on his shoulder, and then he slowly turned around.
Niya gazed foolishly at Tang Jie, looking at the only man in this world she could rely on.
Tang Jie looked at Nia's sorrowful eyes, her desolate and beautiful face. Tang Jie let out a long sigh, lovingly stretched out his hand, gently stroking her cheek: "Want to cry? Then go ahead and cry."
Tang Jie knew that Nia had been hurt more than anyone else here.
They were betrayed by Bal, which is infuriating. But now that Bal is dead and failed, they survived and instead became the winners, having lost almost nothing except for their feelings towards Bal.
But what about Niya?
She is the only one here who has gained everything and lost everything.
No matter how much she hated Bal's betrayal, no matter how much she resented his abandonment, she could not shake off one thing: after all, she was Bal's daughter.
Nia heard Tang Jie's words, her iron-like heart suddenly became fragile like a glass heart, and shattered with a crash.
She suddenly threw herself into Tang Jie's arms and burst out crying loudly.
Lilith stood beside them, blinking her eyes. Although she didn't understand what was happening here, she could hear a heart-wrenching and nose-stinging feeling from Nia's extremely sad crying voice.
William and Bill, the two most die-hard Ball supporters, sat stupidly at the edge of the cliff, their eyes staring into the abyss, speechless, with no one knowing what they were thinking.
Also don't know how long it took, Niya cried until she was tired and fell asleep in Tang Jie's arms.
Tang Jie let out a sigh and picked up Nia: "Let's go, we're leaving..."
William and Lirien, Bill stood up and walked out along the stone cave.
Tang Jie's figure was about to sink into darkness when he turned around, took a last look at the stone cave behind him which had already become an abyss, shook his head with extreme emotion, and then turned around again, his figure disappearing into the thick, ink-like darkness.
A group of people stumbled out of the corridor and came to a huge stone cave outside that was connected to the sea.
Only the sound of the sea waves was heard, one after another, as the waves rolled onto the shore, slapping against the disordered pile of rocks, splashing into countless fragments of jade. In this seaside cave, the huge black dragon king had shifted from its original position due to the intense tremors of the sunken ship island earlier, knocking over some of the surrounding rocks.
Bill had been at sea for many years as a lookout, with eyes sharper than anyone else's; he spotted a yellowish-brown wooden chest among the piles of rocks that had been turned over.
"Look quickly, what is it?" His sharp cry pierced through, causing a shock in the hearts of Tang Jie and William!
William and Bill exchanged a glance, a sudden gleam of madness flashing in their eyes, and then they took off like shots.
They also didn't know where a burst of energy came from, using their hands and feet together to dig out this wooden box that was about one meter long, half a meter high, and half a meter wide.
"This is heavy..." Bill gritted his teeth and shouted.
Although William was blind in one eye, his other eye gleamed with a passion for wealth.
He panted heavily, looking at Bill: "What do you think is inside?"
Bill smiled slyly: "It's definitely going to be a box of gold coins!"
William and Bill walked towards Tongjie together, carrying a box. He was panting with exhaustion, his waist bent as he said: "If I had to guess, it's a case of rum."
Bill's voice rose an octave: "Are you sick? Do you think Atos is like you, a short-sighted, wine-loving moron?"
William rolled his eyes, panted heavily and put the box in front of Tang Jie: "Tang Jie, you be a witness, see who's right between me and Bill! By the way, what do you think is inside?"
"Ah?" Tang Jie was still immersed in the countless emotions of Bal's death, he stared blankly for a moment, his gaze falling on the wooden box with rusty iron edges and a somewhat darkened color in front of him.
Is this really the treasure of Pirate King Atos?
Is this the treasure that drives everyone in the world crazy?
What will be inside?
Even if Tang Jie no longer loved money, he couldn't help but feel an endless curiosity rising in his heart.
He smiled faintly and said to William and Bill: "Okay, I'll be your witness! If I had to guess, I'd say there are gems inside!"
William and Bill were overjoyed, each spat a mouthful of saliva into their palms, then grasped the lid of the wooden box and lifted it with force!
Suddenly, a colorful light burst out of the box, dazzling Tang Jie and leaving him breathless!
This box is divided into three compartments: left, middle and right.
On the left side, a grid is filled with various colorful gems, including honey wax, jadeite, carnelian, cat's eye stone, tourmaline, sapphire, and green jade. The light shines on these gems, refracting into beam after beam of rainbow colors, making one's eyes dizzy at a glance!
Any one of these gems is enough to buy a Tangie-class three-masted warship, which he modified and bought in Xixi. If all the gems are taken out here, a top-notch fleet can be built overnight!
In the middle compartment, however, it was empty, with only a pale white, almost transparent glove placed at the bottom of the box.
And on the right side, there was even more empty space, with only a piece of rolled-up woolen blanket placed inside.
William and Bill only glanced at the empty middle and right cells, automatically ignoring these two places, staring blankly at the incredibly tempting gemstones in the box, unable to say a word.
Tang Jie looked at their appearance and secretly found it amusing.
He also thought they were shocked by the astonishing number of gems or stunned by his accurate guess.
If it weren't for Barul and I going to buy a boat together when we used cat's eye stone to pay the bill, how would I have guessed that these were all precious stones?
Tang Jie smiled slightly and was about to speak when he saw Bill and William simultaneously let out a miserable cry.
Bill clutched his head and shrieked: "Where's the gold? Where's my gold?"
William clutched his head and wailed: "Rum! Where's my rum?"
Tang Jie's eyes twitched slightly at the corners.
These two hopeless idiots!!
"Don't you know how many gold coins one gemstone here can be exchanged for, and how much rum it can buy?" Tang Jie looked at them with a mixture of laughter and tears.
"Excuse me, Captain Tong," Bill retorted bluntly, "but these gems aren't circulating currency and are sometimes not as useful as gold coins!"
Tang Jie's heart skipped a beat!
Yes, these gems are fine if used in small quantities of one or two, but if used in large quantities, it will attract attention and have a serious impact on the gem market.
Things are precious because they are rare. If half of these gems were to circulate, the price of gems on the market would plummet rapidly!
I'm afraid that by then these remaining gems will become worthless trash, and it would be a loss-making deal!
Tang Jie murmured: "What you said makes sense, Bill, I underestimated you!"
Bill was delighted, shaking his head and saying: "That's it! I recall that two years ago, I had a blue gemstone, and when I was in the brothel paying for a woman, that blind bitch said my gemstone was fake, and I ended up pawning my pants! From then on, I knew that gemstones are not as useful as gold coins!"
Tang Jie: "......"
