Volume 1 Chapter 35 Anger
My body plummeted downwards, sharp rocks tearing through my flesh, my heartbeat seemed to stop, everything appeared to be at a standstill. In that instant, all memories came flooding back - my aunt's sharp and harsh scolding, my cousin's malicious teasing, the hardships I faced when I first entered society, the struggles of working hard, countless difficulties and challenges... flashed through my mind in an instant. No, I couldn't die!
I miraculously calmed down, and in the flash of lightning, my survival instinct made me stretch out my right hand. After a sharp cut on my palm, I grasped the cliff wall, with both feet hanging in mid-air, swaying precariously, but stopping my fall.
A multitude of gasps and a fierce roar like that of a trapped beast came from above, I suddenly snapped back to reality, only then did I realize my left arm was still tightly bound. Turning my head, I saw Fei Qingyun hanging beside me, his face pale white, breathing violently, with countless new wounds on his body. I was shocked to see three extremely thin steel needles inserted into his right arm, the needle tips already half buried in his forearm, the tails quivering slightly.
"What's wrong with you?" I asked in great surprise, completely forgetting that we were still hanging on the cliff at the moment.
"Needle, poison!" He gasped with difficulty, squeezing out these words from between his teeth.
His soft sword had long since disappeared, his right hand that was poisoned clung to the cliff with difficulty, but his left hand still tightly grasped me. I turned over my left wrist and grabbed him, saying fiercely: "Hold on, don't give up!"
He suddenly laughed self-deprecatingly: "This little poison can't take me down for the time being, but I won't be able to take you away."
"Huh!" I was stunned for a moment. At this time, I didn't even consider whether I could survive or not.
A flame of fire illuminated the top, I heard the sound of clothes breaking through the wind, and Ling Yi came down. My heart suddenly became urgent, my left hand relaxed immediately, "Then you go quickly, don't care about me."
Fei Qingyun raised his head and looked at me with a glint of sharpness in his eyes, "Don't worry, I will definitely come to take you away."
No sooner had he finished speaking than my left arm relaxed, and all I saw was a dappled white shadow flashing several times before disappearing.
The wind blows down the cliff, making a hissing sound. I feel like a withered leaf that's about to fall off. My right hand is gradually losing its strength. My whole body is covered in cold sweat. This physical ability has already been pushed to its limits by me. Sharp pain is spreading throughout my body. Why hasn't the person above come down yet? I gritted my teeth and cursed.
A strong gust of wind blew by. Ling Yi's anxious face appeared before my eyes. This time I won't die! I actually smiled at him. My hand relaxed, and I fell into his arms.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What to do? I don't know if Ling Yi has noticed my intention to help Fei Qingyun escape. Just now, he returned to the edge of the cliff and faced the burning torches. Ling Yi just said lightly: "No need to chase him, let him go." My heart began to suspect.
He didn't say a word all the way. I was held in his arms. I carefully raised my head to steal a few glances at him, but from my angle, I could only see his firm jaw and tightly pursed lips. What's wrong? Right, this isn't my style.
"Let me go myself!" I struggled to jump down immediately.
"What are you doing?" He tightened his arms and frowned at me.
I immediately decided to take the initiative and accuse him. I don't know where I got the strength from, but I managed to break free from his arm, and as soon as my foot touched the ground, I shook off his hand that was supporting me and glared at him fiercely: "Is this the real reason you asked me to attend the trial?!"
"He... " He was taken aback, just about to speak when I cut him off: "You've known all along that Fei Qingyun is a traitor, why didn't you tell me directly? Do you think this is some kind of joke? Why is it that whenever something related to you comes up, I'm bound to be unlucky? No, not unlucky, it's a matter of life and death!"
I glared at him fiercely, recalling the past and my failed escape attempt. The indignation surged up, and I became more agitated as I spoke, "Why did you hit my leg with a stone? One careless move and I would have really become a ghost under your sword! Is this what you wanted?! Don't think that just because you've captured my soul, I'll let you manipulate me. Only 81 days, how's that?! I'm a person, not a puppet! And another thing, stop always hugging me and treating me like someone else's shadow. Do you think your hypocritical display of affection will make me obey you?!"
The more I spoke, the more reckless my words became. The more I spoke, the more resentful I felt. The more I spoke, the farther away we drifted. I glared at him with a fierce gaze, having almost forgotten my original intention of striking first. My heart was pent up with suppressed anger, yearning to be unleashed.
His expression changed from confusion to astonishment, then to guilt, and finally became inscrutable. After a long while, he spoke in a strained voice: "You think that's how it is?"
I glared at him sullenly, "I've always thought so, don't you think I should thank you for saving me? If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be in this predicament today!"
He lowered his eyelids, avoiding my scorching gaze, and said in a low voice: "Sorry, I'll make it up to you."
"Compensate me?!" I stared at him with wide eyes, laughing at the absurdity of it all. I was speechless, my breath caught in my throat as I struggled to respond to his words. How could he possibly compensate me? Maybe he did feel guilty, but what could he do to make up for it? Could he send me back home? If not, on what grounds could he compensate me?
I was so angry that I couldn't help but laugh, and didn't want to get tangled up with him over these issues anymore, so I turned around and left.
The road behind the mountain is extremely rugged, I walked with Ruo Wei last time, this time although it's dark and windy, but relying on the moonlight in the sky, it's not a big problem. I huffed and puffed as I walked back and forth, not caring about the depth of my feet, I heard him quietly following my footsteps behind me, too lazy to pay attention to him, my pace getting faster and faster.
All I could hear was the rustling in the bushes, and before I knew it, a black shadow the size of a soccer ball darted out from the side and flew towards me. I was already furious, and when I saw that unknown black shadow, a surge of evil fire burst out in my heart - how dare anything bully me! Just as the black shadow darted in front of me, I didn't think twice, lifted my leg and kicked...
This brought my angry foot flying out, with a force that was astonishing, and it even accurately kicked that black shadow. A harsh cry came from it, startling me greatly. The black shadow drew an arc, and instantly vanished into the grass, disappearing without a trace.
"What are you doing?" Ling Yi rushed up to me in two steps, staring at the direction where the black shadow disappeared with me. I reckon he saw my entire movement from behind and then turned his head around, staring blankly at me.
I also turned my head and stared at him, "What kind of animal is it?" Just now, I kicked with a 'mid-air shot', it was so brilliant that I wanted to applaud myself, but when I touched the black shadow, it was soft and fluffy, definitely a small animal, what have I done?!
All my anger vanished with that one kick and scream, but what exactly did I kick? Its mournful cry made it impossible for me to tell what kind of animal it was, but it was a living thing. I began to feel a twinge of self-reproach; I had been too impulsive.
Ling Yi saw me staring blankly and subconsciously stretched out his hand, but it awkwardly stopped in mid-air.
I suddenly came to my senses and realized that he had heard everything I said earlier. I couldn't help but burst out laughing, this man is really hilarious! Earlier in the conference hall, he was so majestic and condescending, but now he's become like this. People indeed have a dual nature, it's true!
I laughed uncontrollably, the wounds all over my body burning with pain, the sword wound on my neck also throbbing fiercely. I laughed and frowned at the same time, which made him frown deeply. He growled in embarrassment: "Haven't you had enough laughter? You're in so much pain but still can't restrain yourself!"
"Not enough!" I deliberately wanted to anger him, putting one hand on my hip and saying: "Anyway, it's me who's in pain, your Gu Qingying can't feel a thing."
"That's enough!" His face suddenly changed, scaring me, his iron-like hand grasped my arm, and with a sudden pull, he dragged me in front of him. Gnashing his teeth, he said: "I've indulged you for long enough, people's patience has its limits, if you continue like this, I'll..." He paused, his eyes angrily staring at me, his lips pursed tight, saying no more.
"What are you going to do with me?" A surge of anger rose in my chest, and I immediately shot back: "Do you want me to die again? The fox's tail has finally been exposed! Your so-called apology, your so-called accommodation, your so-called indulgence - it was all just a ploy to get me to behave, wasn't it? You brought me here today to watch this play just to make sure I wouldn't run wild in the future. Lord Lingbao, you really are going to great lengths for nothing! Why bother with such trouble when you could have just locked me up?"
I defiantly stared back at him, knowing he didn't dare do anything to me, at least not until the deadline; he also wouldn't lock me up, because I had appeared in front of everyone today, and if this new bride were to suddenly disappear, he would have no reasonable explanation to give to everyone.
I know my words have touched his reverse scales, but what's the big deal. I don't hate you, I don't hate you, that doesn't mean I don't despise and loathe you, the evil air in my heart is bursting out, coupled with tonight's failed escape, the resentment in my belly has to be vented somewhere.
I jumped up and down, yelling at him: "You lock me up, you don't lock me up, I'll still cause trouble every day outside, I'll still make new friends every day, what can you do? Go tell everyone not to have anything to do with me, not to associate with me? Maybe I'll even fall in love with someone, you don't know, the people from my world have very open views on sex, do you know what 'sex' is?..."
"Shut up!" he bellowed, cutting off my 'speech', and with a swift motion of his left arm, I was swept up in his arms once again.
"Let me go, you rascal!" I shrieked and kicked him, my voice echoing in the darkness. Fortunately, he had just dispersed the crowd earlier, or else this would have made a big scene.
