Ch.9 The Second floor

“Aahh” I Yawn as I start to wake up. “Good morning” I hear Grace’s quiet voice say from above me. Opening my eyes I feel Grace laying on top of me, “Good morning Grace” I say leaning up to give her a kiss. “Good morning Master” says Olivia in my mind. “Good morning Olivia” I say aloud as I get up and start my morning stretches. Finishing up my stretches I look towards Grace as my stomach starts rumbling. “Hungry?” she asks grinning at me. I roll my eyes as she tosses me a granola bar.

“So what’s the plan?” asks Grace as I start to eat. “I don’t really know, I was thinking maybe we could go to the original building, or maybe upstairs” I reply to her with a shrug. “So what do you think?” I ask her. “I don’t know, maybe the main part of the building” she says. “Ok as soon as you girls are ready we can go” I say to them while pulling my soft armor back on. I pull out the plate armor and look at it in confusion. “Let me help you with that master” Olivia says seeing my confused look. Walking over to me she starts to rapidly tighten and loosen straps helping me into the armor. “Thanks Olivia” I say with an embarrassed look on my face. Reaching into my inventory I start pulling out my weapons. Strapping my bow and arrows to my back, and grabbing my axe and my shield, I turn only to see the girls already ready and watching me. “Let’s go then” I say gesturing the girls forward. Opening the door, they look back and forth and walk outside. Walking past them down the hall my eyes scan back and forth searching for monsters. As I reach the exit to the main building an invisible force blocks my path, and a message pops up before me.

“Do you see this?” I ask the girls after I finish reading the message. “No” Grace says worriedly, “What is it” she asks me. “It says that we can’t leave until we clear this part of the school” I say heavily. “I guess this means we’re going upstairs huh” Grace says sadly. “I guess we better go see what’s upstairs” I say turning around and walking towards the staircase.

My eyes once again scan back and forth as I walk up the stairs. Reaching the top of the stairs I see a pair of what appears to be black wolves gnawing on bones in front of me. The wolves turn around and look at me growling as a pair of screens pop up in front of me.

I raise my shield as one of the growling Dire wolves leaps at me, teeth bared. Slamming my shield forward I knock the wolf back, but before I can strike down with my axe the other wolf leaps forward to try and bite me. Dodging the wolf’s teeth I slam my axe down grazing its side. I raise my axe back up I start to move forwards only to feel a pair of fangs latch onto my unprotected ankle.

  -4Hp. You are bleeding.

Growling out my anger like the wolves that are attacking me I raise my axe, and bringing it down I cut off a paw of the wolf that’s attacking me. Raising my shield I block the charge of another Direwolf and lash my foot out at it. As the wolf starts to retreat and protect its injured comrade a spear comes from behind me and slams into its side. “Are you ok?” Grace asks me in a worried tone of voice. “I’m fine I say while approaching the dying Direwolf. Raising my axe over my head I slam it down into the wolf’s head, ending its misery.

Pulling my axe free from the wolf’s head I look over to see one of Olivia’s daggers stuck, hilt-deep, into the back of the other wolf’s head.

“What the Hell?” I say looking at the message, “Why did she get half of the experience?” I wonder aloud

  Ding!

  Ding!

Olivia Status, I think silently to myself.

  “Distribute status points” I think.

“Olivia the Beautiful” +1 Wis. +2 Con. +2 Dex.

“Master what did you do, I feel different?” Olivia asks with a confused look on her face. “I distributed your status points” I say while grinning. “Let’s go” I say collecting the corpses into my inventory and starting to walk down the hall. Getting my shield ready I walk into the room, only to see an injured albino wolf surrounded by 5 of its ordinary kin. Charging forward into the encirclement of wolves I swing my axe down to cut off the head of one of the wolves.

As I raise my axe up to keep fighting, a pair of teeth clamps down on my armored shoulder. Reaching over with my left hand I pick it up by the tail and slam it into the ground to daze it, and use it as a projectile to knock over one of the other wolves. Lifting my axe up I bring it back down into the wolf’s spine, effectively putting it out of the fight. I turn to kill the dazed wolf and trip over the corpse of another wolf.

  -2Hp.

I feel a pair of sharp fangs clamping down on the back of my leg, before a heavy weight replaces it.

  -5Hp.

Getting up I see Grace tugging her spear out of the corpse, “Thanks” I say to her, my eyes scanning my surroundings.

Seeing a wolf lunging towards Olivia’s back I slam the bottom of my kite shield into the base of its neck effectively removing its head from its neck.

Walking over to the Direwolf that is starting to get back up I slam my axe into the back of its head.

Looking around I start to approach the wolf. “eahh” the wolf whines at me, but too tired to move it lies still as I approach it. “Give me a health potion” I say to Grace while holding out my hand. “Wh-" she starts to say, “Just do it Grace” I say, reaching into her inventory she pulls out a potion and hands it to me. Leaning down over the wolf I start pouring it on its wounds. “Another one” I say to Grace and she meekly hands another one over. Pouring it over more of the wolf’s wounds, and it starts to look much better. Its tail starts wagging as I rub its head, “Good boy” I say to the wolf. “Grrr” It starts growling at me and I hurriedly pulled my hand back away from it. “Maybe it’s a girl?” Grace suggests staring at the wolf.

“Sorry girl” I say patting her head again. “Would you like to be my pet?” I say cutting my hand open and presing against her.

“Roof” Lucy barks, at the same time I hear a voice in my head say the word “Hello”, “Is that you Lucy?” I ask the voice. “Yes it’s me” she replies to me. “Girls this is Lucy our new pe-, Oww” I start to say before Lucy bites me. “What the heck was that for!?” I say angrily. “Do not call me a pet” Lucy replies coldly. “Ok girls this is Lucy” I say while glaring at her.

“Let’s just go back” I say to them. Walking back out into the hall and watching for direwolves, we head back down stairs and return to the bathroom.

After entering the bathroom we start taking off our armor and weapons, and Olivia scurries over to help me take my armor off. Storing my equipment back into my inventory I take out some of the corpses I’ve collected to see what skills I could improve.

“Yes!” I border-line shouted. “What is it!?” asked Grace loudly. “Nothing I just got a lot of gains is all” I say in reply. “Just a second let me check my status” I say feeling slightly preoccupied.

I look at my status while grinning. Thinking back to yesterday I focus my will while channeling Eye of the Beholder.

“Master did you do this?” Olivia asks aloud. “Do what?” Grace says questioningly. “I upgraded her dagger mastery, just like I upgraded your spear mastery yesterday” I say to her while grinning. “How!, you never told me” she says loudly. “A skill that I have called Eye of the Beholder, it has several uses” I say mysteriously while grinning. “Now I’m gonna go to bed, night” I say sliding into my bedroll before they can ask me any more questions.

  The Next Morning

“Thank you master” says Olivia in my head using a gleeful tone of voice. “Come on girls we should go back upstairs” I say while stretching. With Olivia’s help I put on my weapons and armor and get ready to go. “Are you ready?” I ask them, getting their nods in reply. “Let’s go then” I say while walking towards the door.

Reaching the top of the stairs with my bow drawn, I draw my arrow back, and scan the hall with my eyes. Seeing a lone wolf gnawing on a bone, I carefully aim and fire at it.

Holding my shield in front of me and scanning my eyes back and forth, I beckon the girls forward. Walking into the room where we met Lucy, we find it empty of all signs of life. Walking across the hall I pull out my axe, and stride through the door. Inside the room is a group of two sleeping wolves, and one conscious wolf. Sprinting forwards as fast as I can I slam my axe into the back of the head of one of the sleeping wolves embedding my axe deep in its skull.

Before I can pull my axe free of the wolf’s skull a pair of jaws clamps down on my calf. “Arghh” I shout out in pain through my gritted teeth.

  -6Hp.

While trying to jerk my leg out of the beast’s jaws Grace’s spear flings out and spears through the wolf’s throat causing it to release my leg, while choking on its own blood. Hopping back I see Olivia’s Dagger slam into the beast’s heart causing a tide of blood to flow out of its chest and Lucy’s Jaws clamp down on its head, cracking its skull.

Reaching forwards I grab the waking wolf’s tail and toss it up into the air. Stepping forward Grace slams her spear into the wolf’s skull cracking it open and causing red brain matter to flood out of its skull.

“Can you show me your status?” I ask Grace while collecting the wolf corpses and checking Olivia and Lucy’s statuses.

“Ok girls let’s go” I say while turning and walking back towards the door. Looking out the door to confirm that there’s no enemy’s out in the hall, I step out and start to walk towards the next room, drawing my bow and setting an arrow to the string as I walk. Peeking my head into the next room over and finding it empty I relax my guard and pull the arrow from the string, sheathing it. “Come in this one’s em-” I start to say before a jarring impact knocks me off my feet.

  -4Hp.

“Arghh” I shout in pain, as a laceration cuts down the back of my left thigh. I struggle to get up as the wolf bites into my calf.

  -6Hp.

“Argh” I groan through gritted teeth while thrashing and trying to break free of its teeth. “Awhoo” yelps the wolf as Lucy barrels into it and sinks her teeth into its throat.

“Thanks Lucy” I say while trying to stand back up on my feet. “Arghh” I yell out in an unrestrained shout as I fall back to the floor from the pain. “Are you ok?” asks Grace in a worried tone of voice, while at the same time two worried shouts of “Master” come from Olivia and Lucy in my mind. “I-I’m fi-” I start to say before I collapse into unconsciousness.
