Chapter 63

There was indeed healing to be done. Many adventurers had been critically hurt during the monster waves. Minor Healing was great at keeping them alive, but organs were not repaired. As soon as I walked into the Guild’s infirmary, I activated my Healing Aura. It would help with less wounded people and help be level it up.

I had promised to fix anyone that help with the monster wave, so I got down to work.

I developed a routine. Diagnose, then Ranged Medium Heal, then Heaven’s Heal, Cure All if needed, and Heaven’s Heal again. The other magic healer magics pitched in and took care of those that did not need the Heaven’s Heal or Cure All. It took about three hours, and two mana potions to get everyone back to full health.

Other adventurers who were handicapped prior to the monster wave came in after I was done with the monster wave victims. There were six of them. They had pooled their money and asked me to heal them. Three hundred gold was a lot of money.

“I typically require one year of service as a guard for restoring limbs. However, I am fully staffed. I will heal you, but it is an advance on the next monster wave. Each of you will agree to help with the defense of Forest Glen at the next monster wave. If you agree to that, I will heal you.”

They would have done it anyway, since it was part of the Guild’s charter. Easy decision for them. Needless to say, they quickly agreed.

I found out it was harder to heal old wounds, than newer ones. I hadn’t realized it when I healed my guards, because I didn’t do it so soon after healing a fresh wound. It took more mana, and I had to push to overcome the scarring that had set in. It wasn’t impossible, just harder. For these six, it took about another hour, and another mana potion.

With the most critical cases handled, I left the rest to the other magic healers and went in search of Gorver.

I found him in his office, as usual. It was either there or the training ground, and I was done with training. Too many bruises. I knocked before entering, then went in.

“Good to see you Gorver. I hope you have some time to discuss something with me.”

“Good to see you Young Master Trevor.” He was never going to stop call me that. “I do have a bit of time. What can I help you with?” He waved me over to take a seat.

“One of my benefits from the wave was to be able to select a skill. I was hoping to get your opinion on the best ones to select.”

“Of course. There are some excellent skills to have. Getting a selection rather than just a skill is a rare thing. Getting as much information as you can before your selection is a good idea. I should let you know that if you are offered a skill via scroll, system reward, or any other way than training, it will provide you with the knowledge of how the skill works, and the most common usage of the skill. As an example, the Firestarter skill provides you the knowledge of how to make tinder to start a fire. It will also provide you the physical skill to use a bow drill.” Gorver paused for a second and then continued “I am not sure I can help you with any healer related skills, but for adventuring I can. Which skills do you get to choose from?”

“Well. I have quite a few, so can you tell me some of the better ones, and I can see if they are on my list?”

“Take Me Home, is the best escape spell for an individual. It allows you to set a point where you will appear when activated. Distance is unlimited. Levels reduce the cool down time. Harden increases your current armor defensive rating. Levels increase the percent increase. Intimidation is another good skill. It basically causes fear in your opponents. But my all-time favorite is Shield Breaker. As the name says, it will break any shield, magical or physical. Justinian used it on our fight with the Litch. It is a game changer and a life saver. I wish I had it, but it is so rare, the only one I know that does have it is Justinian, and I only found that out during our fight with the Litch. Those are probably the most powerful but all are rare, so don’t feel bad if they are not on your list.”

Intimidation was not on my list, because I already had it. Shield Breaker was, but was the most expensive skill. Take Me Home was only eight points, while Harden was ten.

“Have you heard of the skill Second Chance? It says that if I killed, I will revive with 50% health and mana. It seems like a good choice.”

“Wow, I have never heard of it before and I thought I knew all the major skills. You should take that one immediately. No question about it. Also, if you could provide me with a description of the skill for the Adventurers Guild record. I like to keep a list of all skills, whether any members have them or not.”

“Okay. I will take it and provide you a write up. Thanks for the input. Anything else you might want to suggest?”

“Keep your skills secret. Knowledge about your class and level will leak out. There are too many ways to get that information. Skills on the other hand, there is no known magic that can get that information. Only you can tell others which skills you have, so try not to do that too much.”

“Thanks for the advice. I will see you later.”

I stood up, we shook hands, and I left. When I left his office, I immediately brought up the skill list and selected Second Chance and accepted it. Ten more points down, then I selected and accepted Take Me Home. Eight more points gone. Harden took another ten points. Almost half my available points spent. Still, I think it was worth it. I would decide on skill levels later.
