115. Colin

So far, the FBI cooperated with Colin and met their demands. They brought in supplies, helped round up the Changed, and even helped bring the electrical grid back on for their two towns. There were still plenty of Changed roaming around, but with their help, Kristy was managing to convert people back to Awakened at a much faster rate. Already, there were too many people to fit in a single home and had been spread into an entire culdesac.

Colin watched over all of them as best he could and tried to keep them safe, but there were the occasional few who grew incontent with their situation. The FBI had refused to remove the lockdown perimeter from the town so far and there were plenty of people who were upset by that.

So far, the FBI had been cooperating, but they hadn’t made any demands which worried Colin. They were like observers, assistants and prison wardens all at the same time, but weren’t asking for anything. Like the old russian proverb said: ‘The only free cheese is in a mouse trap,’ So Colin kept a wary awareness of them as he used their help and assisted Kristy in healing the town.

The FBI was fully aware of Kristy’s powers and Jenny’s too. There was no way Colin and his family could keep things secret after relying on their help so much.

Jenny’s classes were starting to pay off especially with Colin's assistance. Higgins was able to heal the Changed similarly to Kristy, but it was a massive strain for him to even do one per day. Some of the Awakened were able to manifest healing abilities while others tapped into their abilities to transform. Their transformation was much less drastic than Colin's and it took far more time, but they were able to enhance or augment their bodies with animalistic traits. Whenever any of the FBI tried to interview him, Jenny, or Kristy about what made them more powerful, they kept their answers vague. Jenny had revealed her greenies and showed them off to people which made Colin nervous, but the damage had already been done.

The FBI took notes and observed all of this and the progress of the town while they further ingratiated themselves in everyone’s lives. Colin was grateful, but he had an uneasy feeling that the other shoe was about to drop any day now. He tried to get a read on the FBI’s intentions, but everyone that was helping out we’re simply following orders. They were careful to keep any of the top brass from getting near Colin or the town, which in turn grew Colin’s sense of unease further.

It was two weeks after the FBI had been helping out that they made an announcement to the Awakened.
