Chapter 41: Help

  Chapter 41: Help

Shade heard Judgements voice, warning him about what was happening outside his home…Someone is using a lot of spirituality outside your house.

  “A mystic? Who?” Shade asked.

Judgement remained quiet for a moment, unable to answer the question which worried him.

Moments passed before he spoke once again… I can’t make out who it is.

“An unknown mystic. Do you think they are from the church of fire and flame?” Shade’s question caused Judgement to sigh.

While Shade’s theory was possible, he was a bit too paranoid to see the true motive behind the mystic’s actions.

Judgement corrected him… No, this mystic is making themselves known to you. They are currently trying to use an anti-divination characteristic to not leave any traces of them coming here. They are careful but not of you. Most likely one of the silver moon mystics.

Shade didn’t say anything, he simply picked up his crystal monocle pendant and his gun then walked out of his room. He went down the stairs and heard someone in the kitchen.

There was no need for him to walk towards the kitchen, so this didn’t cause a problem. Shade didn’t want to alert his family. This was why he hid his gun in his pants and under his shirt.

Shade put on his shoes and walked out of the house where he saw a woman with brown wavy hair in a cream coloured riding jacket and white pants.

  “Ms. Snow?” Shade said surprised.

“Ah, there you are!” The woman said when she noticed Shade.

The mystic outside the former orphanage building was none other than Ms. Snow. A silver moon believer and coworker to Shade.

“What are you doing here?” Shade asked with suspicion in his tone.

Ms. Snow thought for a moment then moved closer to Shade. She spoke in a low voice.

“Can you come with me? I need your help with something.”

Ms. Snow was usually quite energetic, but not today. She showed a lot of emotion in her speech and body language. This made it easy for Shade to notice that she felt worried about something.

Unsure what to say, Shade simply nodded and followed Ms. Snow to a rented carriage she had prepared beforehand. The two of them entered the carriage and sat down on the same side.

It took two streets until Ms. Snow felt comfortable enough to share her problem with Shade.

“I need your help with sneaking my parents out of the city.” She said with a shaky voice.

Shade’s reaction was that of confusion. He was about to ask why when he suddenly understood why.

Shade was still not used to the fact that they would be entering a war against a church… I wonder if it can be called a holy war.

Shade turned his gaze to look at Ms. Snow. She looked shaken but resolute about her actions.

“Why do you need to sneak them out? Can’t they just leave normally?” Shade asked.

“No.” Ms. Snow said briskly. She still had information she was somewhat unwilling to share.

However, she decided to share it anyway. She needed to get the young mystic by her side to help her and giving him the information he asked for is probably for the best.

“My family are believers in the church of fire and flame.”

Shade was left stunned, while he knew that the church of fire and flame had many believers, he didn’t expect that a mystic that is serving a god had family that believed in another god.

Shade cleared his throat before speaking.

“Are you worried that they will be used as hostages?” He said with a shaky voice.

  “Yes.” Ms. Snow answered quietly.

The situation was much worse and dangerous than he thought it would be. Shade thought for a moment as he heard Mr. Magician scoff, while Judgement sighed.

“Have you talked with them beforehand? Are they ready to move?” Shade asked with worry in his voice.

Ms. Snow shook her head. She looked up to the carriage ceiling before shifting her gaze towards the young man next to her. She could clearly see his face.

He looked like any young man his age. He didn’t look like the mystic that on his first day of work survived a house haunted by spirits alone. Later, killed a criminal with more than a thousand pound bounty. Somehow fought off a capable mystic from Gourmet, and then returning to kill said mystic.

Ms. Snow needed the help of a capable mystic, but she didn’t want to ask the others. While she trusted all of her fellow mystics following the silver moon, they all had their own trouble right now. Helping a family that believed in a church that just attacked their fellow branch office wasn’t something she wanted to trouble them with.

She needed someone with less emotion involved. The best choice was the newest employee, and luckily, the newest employee happens to be the most capable mystic of his peers.

Ms. Snow could even confidently say that he has caught up with her and Mr. Specter.

Judgement spoke while Ms. Snow remained quiet in deep thought… It was smart of her to not tell her parents to prepare. While most gods barely pay attention to their followers, when war is on the horizon, they suddenly get very interested.

Magician spoke out, asking Judgment a question… How are the other gods’ mystics? While they have probably changed much from your time, some of their mannerism should still be left, right?

Judgement sighed before answering… Let’s just say that Shade is lucky that he didn’t join any of the churches. With rare exceptions, gods’ mystics are usually very zealous. Most are brainwashed into that zealous state. For now, focus on Ms. Snow, if you are planning to help her that is.

After hearing Judgment’s words, Shade turned to Ms. Snow.

“I’ll help, just tell me your plan.” Though fake, Shade spoke with confidence.
