Chapter 46: Combat Divination

  Chapter 46: Combat Divination

Unable to converse with Judgement because Red Flag was following closely behind him. Shade could only listen as Judgement talked… If Magician is capable of it, you should have no trouble using combat divination.

Magician jumped in… You speak as if you can’t use it.

Judgment sighed before answering… That is because I can’t. My limit is one illusion spirit or one divination spirit. I can’t seem to use more characteristics than that, which heavily limits my abilities in battle. Let’s get back on track. Magician, teach him how to use it. Better someone that can use combat divination teach him than someone that simply remembers how to use it does.

Magician agreed and started explaining the process to Shade. When Shade and Red Flag reached the temple training grounds, the saintess was standing there as if waiting for them.

“Ms. Silver! Did you come here to train too?” Shade asked energetically.

“No. Simply walking.” Ms. Silver spoke with her usual monotone voice.

Shade started to see a pattern with Ms. Silver’s speech. Whenever she used her spirituality or characteristics, she would start to speak normally but when she hasn’t used either of the two for some time her speech becomes fragmented and her sentences very short.

Judgement was the first to speak… Thought so. No wonder she looked so young, when one becomes a saint too quickly, side effects will appear. I experienced something similar.

Shade ignored Judgement for the time being.

“So, you are taking a walk around the temple. Need to clear your head?” Shade said with an amicable tone in his voice.

  “Yes.” Ms. Silver answered back.

Shade thought for a moment then decided to ask a question to the silver robed saintess in front of him.

“If you have the time, can you oversee our spar?” Shade said calmly.

  “Why?” Ms. Silver asked.

It wasn’t just Shade that has started to understand Ms. Silver, she has started to understand Shade. She knew that he wouldn’t ask if there wasn’t a reason.

Shade made a slight smile as he answered. “I want to simulate a real battle. I want to use real weapons.” He said with a smile.

Ms. Snow thought for a moment. She didn’t say anything, she simply nodded. Red Flag was against the idea at first, but she quickly changed her mind as she understood why Shade wanted to simulate a real battle. With a full scale war on its way, you can’t be too ready.

Magician reexplained how to use combat divination. It was rather simple. Chanell spirituality to the divination characteristics, then draw that spiritualty to the eyes. A vision should appear if you have contracted two or three divination spirits. Usually, the vision would be very short, practically a fraction of a second and at most 3 seconds

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“Young Master, are you ready?” Red Flag asked worriedly. “Yes!” Shade answered.

Red Flag held a special made gun. It was created with mystics using mainly fire spirit characteristics in mind. The gun won’t work if used normally. One would need to have a fire characteristic to even fire the gun. Shade decided to use a sword. He needed to get used to fighting enemies capable of long range attacks while he is stuck with either his sword or fists.

Red Flag started the spar by charging her gun with fire. The flame surrounded the gun and was slowly infusing itself into it. Shade rushed forward. As he rushed forward, Shade blocked his vision with his blade and closed his eyes. Attempting to do a combat divination.

Shade saw a scene where Red Flag fired 3 shots, one aimed at Shade’s shoulder, one aimed at his hip, and the last one was aimed at his leg. Shade dodged to his right and heard how the shots flew past him. While he was unable to see the bullets, he knew that they were covered in fire. Shade didn’t let up, he continued running towards Red Flag. Ms. Red Flag was a bit surprised seeing someone dodge bullets, but she didn’t stop charging her gun with her fire spirit characteristics.

Red Flag planned to shoot more bullets but hesitated. Her thought process was clear… He will just dodge the bullets again. I should meet him in close combat.

While Red Flag would normally lose in close combat, contrary to their former spars, Red Flag had her gun. She was much more confident with her own gun in hand whether she fought in close combat or at range. Normally she would use a sword against Shade as there was no way to make a non-lethal version of her gun.

When Shade had closed the distance between him and Red Flag, he swung his sword at her. Red Flag was quick to dodge. As she tried to fire a bullet, she noticed that Shade had blocked his vision with his sword again.

Her instincts were screaming at her. She had seen him do that just before dodging the three bullets she shot previously. Red Flag fired her gun by instinct and missed.

Shade swung his sword repeatedly at Red Flag who just barely manages to dodge. At times Red Flag would try to shoot Shade from near close blank.

However, Shade manages to dodge Red Flag’s bullets with the help of combat divination. Shade was an impressive fighter, especially for someone that only has been a mystic for a month. But this was because of Judgements influence. His past experience was slowly seeping into Shade. Red Flag though has been a mystic for little less than one year, and she was little less than Shade’s equal in combat while using her own gun.

To call her a genius would be an understatement. Even Judgement complimented her abilities. Red Flag had a hard time fighting Shade because of his use of combat divination. While she didn’t even understand what he was doing, she somehow managed to keep up with him.

The spar ended as a draw. Ms. Silver stopped it when she noticed that the fighters got too comfortable attacking vital points. One slip up and one of them could have died if not for Ms. Silver’s presence. After the spar, Shade noticed Ms. Silver’s scrutinizing gaze… Looks like she still thinks that I have lost control.

Judgement noticed Shade’s gaze and added… The only reason she hasn’t done anything is because she is waiting for the goddess herself to say something. But let’s leave that for now. Your use of combat divination was perfect. The only thing you can do now is to absorb more spirits. You will need more strength if you are to participate in the war.

Shade nodded. The nod was intended for Judgement, but he was currently talking with Red Flag. While it has been more difficult to speak to Judgement and Magician, Red Flag has been useful to hide the fact that he has been conversing with himself. The night passed and Shade made his way back home. He gave 5 pounds to his siblings and went to sleep. Because of the oncoming war, Shade had been told to come to work during the night and he goes home in the morning.

This caused his sleeping schedule to completely change. The time he spent with his family lessened naturally.
