It’s been a month since we appeared in the place we’ve titled “The Village” at Ian’s suggestion. He told me afterwards he was referencing that old 1960s TV show “The Prisoner” and was pleasantly surprised I got the reference. He reminds me of Oliver sometimes, which, despite it being fifteen years since his death, is both comforting and saddening.
Sorry. Facts.
Observations so far:
- There are 100 individuals. Most are singles, although there are a few families - Marcus Sutton, whose wife and two children were taken. Some couples, some single parents, such as Lisette with her daughter, Josie. Age ranges are 20-40 primarily; there are a few senior citizens like me, but no one older than 70.
- All are in good health. Between the NHS clinic I found and Samir’s lab, along with a few doctors who were taken, we are equipped for almost any emergency.
- We’ve noticed food is continuously replenished; garbage and waste are taken care of somehow. We examined the plumbing in Chad’s apartment. It connects to the floor of this enclosure, but we cannot breach beyond that point. Same with electricity.
- Samir is testing human and environmental samples. Fortunately, his laboratory recently installed a confocal fluorescence microscope with a resolution of up to 200 nm.
- Ian and a few others reported the occasional but transient scent of cannabis. I also have detected it. This occurs in locations / times unconnected to known cannabis use.
- Given what we’ve seen and tested, the assumption is we are dealing with a non-human level of technology. Unknown if we are still on Earth.
- The Internet appears frozen on October 7. We cannot make calls or send messages out from the village. Livestreaming, YouTube videos, and radio broadcasts do not work. However, we can download information and archived data.
- Wei, Ian, Jing, and a few others created a local network. All devices have been connected. We can now call or message each other and share information internally. Clock synchronization occurs automatically through the network. A few individuals have kept personal devices offline, but most rely on the shared system for convenience.
- Surprisingly, there have been no conflicts. However, I have begun to suspect that Karen Blackstone might be a bit upset that we are not immediately responding to her suggestions. She is collecting a few like-minded souls. This may be a problem in the future. Monitoring.
- Cornelius or Neil Howe appears to have a cocaine addiction. Without proper detox support, this could escalate. Made preliminary approach regarding health concerns. Rebuffed.
