Nineteen hard work rolling unstoppable bear of bad luck

Nineteen, roll hard! Invincible Calamity Bear

Nineteen, roll hard! Invincible Calamity Bear

In the canyon where the smoke had not yet dispersed, two red light beams cut across the dawn sky. The makeshift military camp outside the surface entrance of New Mados City immediately began to stir.

  "Waaaah!"

"Mr. Vinnie said, all troops stand by, the unlucky bear squadron will strike immediately!"

Mr. Vinnie, the great druid, let out a loud whoop when he received the magical transmission, and little Griselda quickly translated it into a language that others could understand. As for the bears, who didn't need translation, they had already swiftly climbed into their wooden barrel-like armor, just like they had practiced countless times before, and were now rolling agilely towards the launch position, ready to go, without showing any clumsiness despite their large size.

After hearing the orders relayed by Little Griselda, nearly a thousand human soldiers and "volunteers" conscripted from the city, with eyes red from lack of sleep and filled with bloodshot, pushed forward with all their might to push down the barricades, lower the covers on the trenches, and pave the way for the ill-fated Bear Squad's charge. Several hundred dwarf sappers who had temporarily changed professions carried large wooden mallets as big as small kegs, barely lifting their somewhat dizzy heads from drinking too much farewell wine, stumbling out of the tents, taking half a day to stand behind each of their respective barrels.

  "Waaaah!"

  "Wah wah!"

The great druid made a final pre-battle pep talk to the brave warriors under his command, and the dog bears in the barrels responded in unison. The dwarf engineers lifted their massive wooden mallets with all their might, as if playing golf in another world, and struck them heavily on the heavy wooden barrels containing the dog bears, which immediately began to roll rumblingly, and accelerated further under the vigorous movement of the dog bears inside. The great druid excitedly ran after his own guard, jumping up and down on all fours, occasionally using a gust of wind spell to speed up his troops.

When this strange corps appeared in front of the elf army that had formed a circular array, these numb guys didn't think they were facing an enemy attack at all. Instead, one by one, their expressions relaxed, as if watching a spectacle, and they started chatting with each other with great interest.

"What in heaven's name is this?"

"How did so many wine barrels roll over here?"

  "Is there beer inside?"

  I still prefer wine.

"I hope it's not oil, the fire on the ground hasn't been completely extinguished yet!"

It's no wonder they lack the ability to associate, because putting soldiers in wine barrels and rolling them over to attack is simply too unbelievable and has little practical significance, it's not something that can happen in this world. The soldiers are more inclined to think that a warehouse somewhere on the mountain collapsed, leaking out the wine barrels inside, or another not-so-clever fire attack.

"Shut up, shut up!" Several elf officers struck the babbling soldiers on the head with whips and scabbards to maintain discipline. Although they didn't understand what was going on with the rolling barrels either, they still sent a few long-handled halberds to intercept one of the wine barrels. These unlucky guys walked a long way towards the rolling barrel, then stretched out their long-handled halberds diagonally downwards, aiming at a large wooden barrel closest to them, trying to intercept it.

  Bang!

  "Ah!"

The heavy wooden barrels crushed their long spears with a loud crash and rolled over them, driven by great kinetic energy, as if a road roller had passed over these poor guys. Before the few who were crushed to vomit blood could struggle to get up, the second, third large wooden barrel came rumbling, heavily crushing them again!

The elf soldiers in the circle formation looked at their companions being crushed into meat paste by the rolling barrels with shocked and angry expressions, but they were also bewildered by this unconventional attack method. The officers issued contradictory orders, leaving their subordinates at a loss, and then started arguing with each other. Meanwhile, the rumbling sound grew louder as the seemingly harmless barrels continued to roll closer with an eerie slowness.

  "Change formation! Pike men forward!"

Sophia saw that her subordinates were at a loss for what to do, so she took command. A group of human soldiers who had not managed to escape during the night raid stood under the muzzles of the elves and half-elves, holding 4-meter-long crude spears, trembling as they formed three rows in the direction of the rolling barrel cluster. Some musketeers who had forgotten to bring ammunition also had to attach bayonets to their guns and mix into the last row of the spear formation.

"Don't worry too much, using the method to deal with heavy cavalry will be enough to succeed against these wine barrels!"

Sophia used amplification magic to encourage her subordinates, but the human soldiers were still frightened and only the cold gun barrels on their waists forced them to come to their senses, gripping their long spears tightly and even inserting the tips deep into the mud.

In the midst of flying snow and frozen earth fragments, over 300 oak barrels came rumbling in like a tidal wave, causing the ground to tremble. It was as if they had the same oppressive force as an armored battalion from another world. Their round and comical appearance originally had no intimidating power, but in the eyes of the soldiers who were already on edge, they seemed to have become the most terrifying monsters from another realm. As the distance shortened, their hands and feet trembled more and more violently. It was only due to the strict military discipline that they did not immediately disperse.

  "Archers, fire!"

Ten slender, pure-blooded elves stepped forward in unison, drawing their bowstrings taut as they faced the oncoming entity at an upward angle. Unlike human troops, elven archers had a far greater range than ordinary firearms, with many renowned marksmen able to shoot arrows over 600 yards; thus, in this era where human archers had been largely replaced by gunners, elves stubbornly retained this most ancient form of long-range combat unit.

As the bowstrings vibrated continuously, the elven archers poured down arrows at their fastest speed towards their opponents. Among these arrows were many powerful magic arrows. Under the arrow rain, some of the rolling barrels occasionally caught fire or were covered in a layer of ice. However, it was quite difficult to accurately hit high-speed moving objects with parabolic falling arrows, and the number of elven archers was also a bit too small.

  "Archers, fall back! Gunners, fire!"

As most of the military equipment was destroyed in last night's fire attack, the archers completely lost their combat effectiveness after consuming the dozen or so arrows left in their quivers, causing almost no damage to the rolling barrel tide.

Some soldiers who had snatched out firearms in the chaos of last night hastily loaded and cocked them. With sporadic gunfire, a rain of lead bullets fell on the rapidly rolling wooden barrels, then bounced off the magically hardened barrel walls, including even the few silver anti-magic bullets - this was indeed a paradox: ordinary lead bullets had enough kinetic energy to destroy ordinary wooden barrels, but could not cope with magic; anti-magic bullets could greatly weaken magical defensive capabilities, but were too heavy and did not have enough initial velocity to support their penetration of the wooden barrel walls.

In addition, the conclusion that a high-speed rolling object can deflect bullets is not entirely a fabrication of a miserly alchemist to deceive the great Druid. The Musketeer's volley attack was still ineffective in front of these wooden barrels, and even Sophia, who had been through many battles, felt a little nervous when faced with what seemed to be an unstoppable monster. It was somewhat similar to the feeling of the German army during World War I, facing the British steel tanks they had never seen before on the Somme battlefield.

Of course, if the distance could be shortened a bit, the above problems would no longer be a problem, and whether it was lead bullets or armor-piercing bullets, they could penetrate this ridiculous "armor" and kill the bear inside. However, the wooden barrel that was rapidly growing in size in the soldiers' field of vision made them have no chance to fire again. Before the commander gave the order, the musketeers shouted and retreated on their own initiative, also disrupting the rear team mainly composed of church knights. The elf knights swung their sharp swords without mercy, cutting off the throats of these offenders. One side of the battlefield had fallen before the two sides even made contact.

  "Deploy force field!"

Before he could regret his hasty order to fire, Sophia had played her trump card. The last few young elven mages tore open their precious scrolls of magic and a wall of invisibility instantly appeared out of thin air just over ten paces in front of the formation, mere inches from colliding with the nearest barrels!

  "Wah wah!"

A gigantic black bear roared twice behind the torrent of wooden barrels, then slapped its palm on the ground. The force field wall that had no signs of weakness suddenly flashed with golden light, and the surrounding space twisted slightly before everything came to an end. The force field wall, which was said to be able to block everything, was completely dispersed by the great druid. The rolling wooden barrels passed through the already disappeared barrier without any obstruction, and fiercely crashed into the long spear holders who were terrified.

  "Take up your spears!"

In the last moment before the two armies clashed, a forest of bayonets and long spears rose up one after another along the defensive line dozens of meters long, reflecting a faint chill in the morning light. If they were to confront heavy cavalry of any race, facing this extremely ancient yet still very effective tactic of infantry countering cavalry, it's likely that quite a few knights would be stabbed full of holes and tumble off their mounts, spraying blood everywhere.

However, this time the enemy they were going to face was a huge and extremely hard wooden barrel. The spears and bayonets slid off or bounced back on the surface of the rapidly rolling barrel, with very few able to pierce it. Then, under the action of tremendous kinetic energy, the giant wooden barrels reinforced by magic crushed the helpless infantry like tanks from another world, directly rolling over their heads, accompanied by a terrifying sound of shattered bones, crushing them beyond recognition.

Even if some guys were lucky enough to block a barrel with their combined strength, there would be more barrels coming one after another, and the impact force was absolutely not something that ordinary people's arm strength could withstand. These lucky ones eventually still fell to the ground, helplessly accepting the fate of being crushed into meat patties.

Like a red-hot iron thrust into soft butter, the ancient phalanx formation melted and collapsed before the onslaught of the newly appeared wooden barrel cluster. Soldiers who had not yet become meat pies dropped their weapons and shouted out in fear in various languages, abandoning their posts to flee in all directions. The Druid's casually released Fear spell further increased their fleeing speed.

Because no one had anticipated that the long pike formation would collapse so quickly, the Church Knights who were still entangled with the scattering gunners were also knocked off balance before they could react. The gentle slope of the small hill was completely unable to stop the rolling barrels, and this flood soon penetrated the entire Elven army's formation, rolling towards the back of the hill.

"Scatter, scatter!" The torrent of oak barrels swept to one side, and Sophia yelled at the top of her lungs, but her subordinates scattered in all directions without needing any orders. Even the knights of the Xiphos Church, whom she relied on the most, were no exception. These knights who had lost their mounts did not perform much better than ordinary soldiers in the face of the torrent of wooden barrels. Although many knights swung their divine-protected swords and split the wooden barrels along with the dogs inside into two halves, there were also many who didn't even have time to draw their swords before being trampled by the enemy's strange wooden barrels or tripping over each other in the mud.

"If only I had used the mud spell or the oil slick spell... No, they have a druid with quite high magic." Sophia noticed the large black bear in the group of wooden barrels, this beast was using magic missiles, chain lightning and even disintegration to slaughter its own subordinates. The priest of the plague goddess Talona, Beckman, and his followers tried to use divine magic and curses against the beast, but were all slapped by the thick bear paws, their heads bursting open with blood and flesh splattered on the snowy ground.

"Just as soon as I take care of this son of a bitch..." Sophia pulled out an intricately crafted magic pistol inlaid with gems and gold filigree, taking aim at Mr. Vinnie's fluffy oversized cranium, but before she could even pull the trigger, her frail elderly body was knocked to the ground by a panicked soldier, sending the magic pistol flying high into the air, where it was then crushed into the permafrost by a dog sled-driven wooden barrel.

"Damn it!" She cursed, pounding the ground in hatred, but to no avail. Her subordinates continued to scatter and flee amidst the rolling barrels, occasionally being knocked down and mauled by the dogs jumping out of the barrels until they were bloody and battered.

On the chaotic battlefield, everywhere was filled with the terrified screams of the elven soldiers and the triumphant roars of the dog bears.
