Fourteen, Glorious Revolution (Part 1)
After finishing reading the newspaper full of nonsense, and eating a simple lunch that didn't taste good, Daniel stood up to stretch his waist, walked around the empty office for a while as if taking a stroll, then lay down on the table again, planning to take a nap.
In this idle department, Daniel really had nothing to do with official business. Every day, except for reading newspapers, he was either in a daze or sleeping, so much so that he slept too much during the day and often couldn't sleep at night, only to find himself unable to get up again the next day. This vicious cycle went on, making Daniel increasingly lazy and listless.
However, this at least allows him to stay away from the bloody battlefield and not have to face those terrible magic and cannons. So Daniel is not very dissatisfied with this job, if it weren't for Daniel having a royal relative identity, he wouldn't even get to do this idle job!
The only drawback is that he spends all day watching the military supplies department across from him live a life of luxury, while he can't even afford a cup of tea, this mentality is really hard to balance.
"Beep!"
Just as Daniel was trying to numb his sense of smell with sleep, a sudden blast of sirens pierced his eardrums, sending him tumbling off the chair. Rubbing his sore buttocks, he opened the window, ready to shout some curses, but was immediately intimidated by a rough voice and retreated back inside.
"Constabulary ordered to arrest thought criminals! Unrelated persons quickly disperse!"
A small squad of brutal and ferocious spirit soldiers, armed with clubs and long swords, came running from the end of the street, smashing pedestrians one by one, causing them to flee in all directions. Old Evan, who was leaning on his cane, tried to go close the large iron gate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but was knocked down by a soldier's club and couldn't get up for a long time. Fortunately, those guys quickly ran past the entrance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and rushed into the neighboring Ministry of Transportation, allowing Old Evan to narrowly escape. He dropped his cane and crawled back on all fours, not even bothering to close the gate.
Sounds of crashing and angry shouting came from within the Ministry of Transportation, several officials jumped out of the window to escape but were shot through the chest by archers who had been lying in ambush with sharp arrows, falling to the ground with a tragic cry - although the war had already entered the era of firearms. However, the spirits still preferred to use the archery techniques passed down from their ancestors. Unfortunately, this ancient tactic was often used more on compatriots than on enemies.
The brief and bloody pursuit ended quickly, with several officials dressed as "thought criminals" bound together with ropes, being pushed and shoved out of the Ministry of Transportation building under the blows of clubs and whips, and then stuffed into a prison van that had been driven out from the Military Supplies Department. Several other "thought criminals" had already been beaten until they were bleeding profusely and were unconscious, so the constables picked them up by their feet and dragged them out like dead pigs. Trails of blood were left on the ground. These claws of the Xiehe Church hid from the battlefield but showed no mercy in dealing with their own compatriots.
Daniel sighed and looked away, sitting back in his chair. This was not something he could control. The habit of arbitrarily arresting people under the pretext of "thought crimes" had already become a habit of the Xievolras Church and the headquarters. In the past, they still had some scruples about nobles and officials, but now even the royal family couldn't protect themselves. It was said that the gendarmerie had taken Prince Breze to interrogate him recently. As a result, after the prince returned, he became mad, only knowing how to say "Officer, please forgive me." Until now, he has not recovered normally. He, an empty-headed Minister of Foreign Affairs, would be even less likely to be put in the eyes of the gendarmerie who looked down on everything.
Daniel fell back onto the desk again. He wanted to continue sleeping with his head down, but it seemed that heaven was not going to let him off easily. Just as he was getting a bit drowsy, the office door was suddenly kicked open.
"Who's there?"
Daniel lifted his head in discontent, but was surprised to see a familiar figure. He had no choice but to swallow all his dissatisfaction back into his throat.
"Brother, how did you come? Don't you have to be on duty today?"
A middle-aged elf dressed in formal attire walked in from the door, obviously doing a butler-like job. He didn't answer his brother's question, just slightly nodded at Daniel and stepped aside.
Several tall and slender elf warriors immediately entered in a file, holding various weapons, and one of them was carrying a large barrel of gunpowder. The chest plates of the soldiers were all engraved with the pattern of the crown, these guys are the royal guards!
But what is the royal guard doing here in this empty diplomatic ministry?
Just as Daniel was stunned, a tall and slender elf girl followed the soldier in, with a beautiful face, elegant demeanor, and even among the elves who produced many handsome men and women, she was a rare beauty. The sexy deep red leather armor added to her charm. But what surprised Daniel the most was the silver crown on the girl's head, inlaid with pearls and jade, which was a custom-made item for the elven princess!
The beautiful young girl wearing a silver princess crown glanced at the Minister of Foreign Affairs, revealing a hint of an enigmatic smile, and then spoke in a voice full of magnetism, but what she said made Daniel's heart skip a beat.
"Hello, Minister Daniel. Your brother often talks about you. Ah, yes, let me introduce myself first. I am Freyja, the second in line to the throne of the kingdom and deputy captain of the royal guard. You should know who I am, right? I came here today because there is a big matter that requires your assistance..."
A deafening explosion shattered the afternoon calm in the capital of Lusaka.
The native fleet and the royal fleet anchored in the port of Lushipa, as well as the sea fortifications, all raised their red battle flags at the same time. Hundreds of three-masted warships and cruisers aimed their black muzzles at the shore, sailors' eyes turned red, firing tens of thousands of shells at key departments controlled by the Church of Xiefo, such as customs, garrison headquarters, and constabulary command. The streets of Lushipa were instantly filled with smoke, bricks and stones flying everywhere, residents screaming and fleeing in all directions. In an instant, this great capital that ruled 900 million people on both sides of the ocean turned into a bloody battlefield.
Under the cover of intense artillery fire, tens of thousands of marines landed in small boats at several major docks, meeting almost no resistance. The coastal fort's garrison also pushed cannons into the streets and merged with the main force of the landing troops. Immediately afterwards, fierce gunfire broke out with the security forces who came to suppress them. The slogan "Eliminate Traitors for the Country, Heaven Punishes National Thieves" echoed throughout the city at that time.
Several flying ships took off from the naval base near the port, dropping a large number of flyers over the city. Each one bore the seal of the Fairy Queen: "...since the Church of Xuefeng has falsely claimed to be the main god, it has stolen the country's major policies. It is not ashamed of its repeated defeats in foreign wars, but takes pride in its harsh internal governance! The people are suffering from hunger and cold, but they do not see it, and the country's wealth is all being embezzled into private pockets! These corrupt and degenerate individuals have done every evil deed, bringing our citizens to a state of extreme danger. Now I want to turn chaos into order, and execute these national thieves! Those who share my heart, let us rise up together..."
Shortly after the artillery fire started in the port, a large number of royal guards stationed in the suburbs also set out from the palace to launch a fierce attack on major locations in the capital. The dragon knights of both sides also took off and engaged in intense aerial battles over Lushepa City and its surroundings. The battle almost reached a white-hot level from the very beginning.
Launched by the Elf King's family, the Elf Navy and several Elf deity cults, a military coup aimed at annihilating the Xuefola Church began with the naval fleet's bombardment of the capital!
"Hiss... Hiss..."
Several rockets spewed out long white smoke. From the third floor window of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they rose into the air and rushed fiercely towards the opposite Military Supplies Department, but were blocked by a suddenly appearing force field wall and slid down reluctantly.
Dozens of gendarmes rushed out of the military supplies department, shouting and cursing, laying down a barrage of gunfire as they cautiously approached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Several law enforcement officers were responsible for supporting from behind. However, just as they stepped into the main entrance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the entire building collapsed in a deafening roar, burying the soldiers who had rushed in under layers of rubble.
Before they could react, the ground shook again. Some of the gendarmes turned around to see that the military supply depot they had just left was violently shaking and exploding, then collapsed layer by layer like a pancake, burying all the personnel and gendarmes who hadn't escaped inside!
"The Ministry of War is finished! Everyone rise up! Heaven will punish the traitors!"
As the Ministry of War collapsed, a large number of temporarily agitated civil servants wielding whatever weapons they could find poured out from their respective government departments. They charged towards the panicked gendarmes under the sudden appearance of the royal guards, almost instantly overwhelming the remaining enemies with gunfire, angry roars and the sound of blades cutting flesh. From time to time, flashes of attacking magic also flickered.
"'Breach Hammer' Daniel is indeed living up to his name, taking out the heavily magic-protected military supply depot with just a few barrels of explosives in the sewer!" Not far away, Princess Freyja observed the unfolding battle from behind a thicket of trees, praising the Foreign Minister lying beside her, "When your brother Raster recommended you to me, I was worried that you'd spent too long in the Foreign Ministry and forgotten the explosive tactics you invented back in the day. Looks like the old blade still has its edge!"
"Treasured sword not old... Although it's been over a decade since I last took the front lines, I'm still under 200 years old, not even middle-aged yet." Daniel smiled wryly as he accepted Princess Freyja's praise, then went on to share his views on the battle situation. "In this entire district, aside from the military supply depot, all the strongholds are on your side, there aren't any more defensive positions left for the enemy to hold onto, they definitely won't be able to last much longer. As for other places, judging from the sounds of gunfire I've been hearing, it seems like things are progressing pretty well too."
He paused, then pointed to the sky again, "But Your Highness, haven't you considered that the one up there might come and interfere? If he sends down an incarnation, you'll likely end up with nothing!"
"It's us!" The princess said lightly, with a very confident tone, "Let's talk about how to fight next."
In the distance, the coup soldiers, with the help of the insurgent citizens, had already pushed the cannons to the front square of the Xuefo La Si main temple. The dark muzzle was pointing directly at the five-story-high bronze statue of the God of Hatred. The sailors cheered as they loaded the shells and lit the fuse.
"Eliminate traitors for the country, heaven punishes national thieves!"
