Chapter 4 (Delilah)

Delilah woke with a purpose, she was going to become a god. She stood up full of fervour and energy. Well, she tried to at least what actually happened was she flexed her back legs and then faceplanted into the dirt. Delilah lay there for long moments letting what had just happened sink in. Yup she was not human anymore and it sucked. And her left leg was twitching which felt weird. Wait and now her right paw? Arm? Geh well it was spasming uncontrollably. Oh and now she was on her back and everything was moving and she felt nauseous. Okay this was not exactly how she imagined the new world would be when she was talking to Garoth. Okay now she felt ill, everything was moving and hurting and ouch. Then suddenly a red box appeared in her vision.

Delilah lay right there on her back in the mud for a long time. Had the universe just tried to delete her? And what was the overseer, just. Delilah closed her eyes and wished not to be a freaking rabbit. After another indeterminate amount of time Delilah wriggled onto all fours slowly and wobbly rose up and decided to learn what on earth was happening. She sighed, which was an odd experience with being a rabbit and all, she wasn’t even on earth anymore. Shaking her head out of that rabbit hole and thought Status to see what exactly was with this new world.

Delilah spent a long moment staring at the floating screen in front of her eyes. By the looks of things then this was a representation of her current form. However there were still a lot of blanks like what exactly did the stats mean, some of them seemed straight forward like strength should probably have something to do with your ability to move heavy things and seen as Rabbits were not particularly known for being strong. Dexterity also seemed relatively simple to understand as Rabbits tend to be fast and agile. However, she knew no specifics like how was endurance different from constitution, they sounded pretty similar. Same goes for intelligence and wisdom she knew the differences in theory but did they act the way she thought they would and would she change if she gained points in either of the two. And what in the world did luck do? Would she win rock paper scissors more now or was it something deeper. Geh, she had so many questions but wait. Diddn’t the weird message say that if she focused on something then it would give her more information? With hesitance Delilah focused on the stats section of her status and willed more information to come.

Right. Okay Delilah could work with this. By the sounds of things if she wanted to optimize the effectiveness of each stat she would have to play to her strengths otherwise part of each stat would be wasted. However, looking back at her status screen she seemed to only have a constitution of four and a health pool of sixteen which sounded very pitiful and probably meant that she would die if anything so much as breathed on her meaning her first priority should be figuring out how to get more stats so that she could gain some constitution and not die. Delilah closed her status windows and prepared to move before thinking better of the idea. It was probably best that she learnt as much as she could about her new body and situation before looking for trouble. Reopening her status she focused on the species tab.

So basically, she was screwed, she was screwed people apparently hated rabbits, everything ate rabbits and apparently half of her survival strategy was to have lots of kids so some of them could survive. Letting out what felt like the fiftieth sigh of her admittedly very short life Delilah decided to move on and see if there were any redeeming parts of her status.

That was… underwhelming? Annoying? Useless? Shaking her head she decided to examine the last box with anything filled in within.

Okay. That was quite the information dump. Godseed was obviously powerful, Delilah inwardly frowned with distaste, that is powerful if she was to get into lots of fights then it would give her a clear advantage. She had no idea what the part about easier ascension actually meant. Did this mean that the level to reach to ascend that Garoth had told her was not applicable to everyone else? Or did this mean that there were other easier paths that she could take which maybe did not involve gaining levels. After all Delilah realised as a shiver ran through her Lagomorphan body as she realised that in most all games which she had played the primary way of gaining experience was to kill things. She, she did not want to have to kill countless beings just so she could become a god, but on the other hand everyone on earth would simply cease to exist if she did not become a god and furthermore what if she killed hundreds or even thousands of beings and then failed to become a god. Delilah felt ill. What was the right thing to do? Shaking her head and forcing her downwards spiral to stop Delilah refocused on the task at hand at least examining her abilities would be a distraction against the harsh realities of her new world, maybe she could even find some insights on how to not be a mass murderer if she looked into them hard enough.

Beastborn was rather self explanatory it was what made her a Rabbit and what nearly caused the world to delete her Delilah shivered from the all to recent near death experience. The only thing which seemed not to be explained was the Rarity of each ability, for example was scarce rarer than rare or the other way round and what exactly did the different rarities mean? And for that matter why was the ominously titled world breaker given a blacked out rarity whereas godseed was unranked? It felt like whenever Deililah found the answer to one question two more popped up, shaking her head she kept reviewing her prompt. Lucky bastard seemed useful however she still had no idea how luck even worked and whether or not it was actually useful.

The description of ‘Determines the extent that your existence will alter the world to your favour’ sounded very promising however the real question was how much the luck attribute did if it took a thousand attributes to make a difference then the stat was rather useless. And the part about being less charismatic and people disliking her rankled her rather a lot. It wasn’t as if she was particularly charismatic on earth or had many friends but that didn’t mean that she didn’t value social interaction. With yet another revalation she realised that the negative charisma may never influence her, could she even communicate with humans? Would she never speak to anyone in this new world?

Delilah forced the thoughts away. They would not help her and she simply did not know enough, it was better to focus on what she could now so she returned to her last two abilities. Experience was very straightforward it would simply help her level. World breaker however… she had no idea what it did nor why it seemed so ominous, she merely hoped that it would not in fact break the world.

Purging all thoughts of the ramifications of her new life Delilah closed the prompt windows in her vision and ignored the little flashing box at the corner of her sight. It was time to explore her new world.
