287. Kasumi Coldhart (6)

  *BWOOOSSSHHHH*

Right now, I am jumping from building to building with my Vein armor. I have identified the murderer’s physical appearance. It was a male with long, dark red, spiky hair. He should be easy to spot since he has two different colored pair of eyes, and there is a big X scar on his right eye.

  *BWOOOOOOOSSSHHHHH*

I’LL FIND YOU NO MATTER WHAT!

I WILL NEVER LET YOU ESCAPE AND GET AWAY FOR MURDERING THE SAVIOR OF MY LIFE!

I went to every nook and cranny of the city without a rest. I jumped from building to building. With every jump, I look down to scan the environment and to see if anyone would match his appearance.

  *BWOOOOSSSHHH*

It’s been an hour, and I still haven’t found him. I’ve jumped almost across the entire city, and yet I still do not find him. He truly is a special someone. Nobody else looked like him.

  “GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!”

  *!!*

I heard a scream as I was at the border of the city. I was in the middle of jumping between two buildings, and when I looked down, there was a dark back alley with many people below.

  “GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!”

I land on the building in front, and I quickly run back towards the edge to peek down at the back alley.

  *!*

  *ZRAAAAAASSSHH*

I see a group of thugs surrounding someone. The thugs were dressed like common outlaws, with a ripped pair of jeans, a sleeveless denim jacket, a bandana on their heads, a matching logo of some sort at the back of their denim jackets, chain necklaces, and so on.

I see the man whom they surrounded, and I finally found him.

A man with long, spiky, dark red hair, with an antenna hair sticking out on the top, wearing a long-sleeved red shirt with a black and red horizontal stripes motif, as well as a pair of dark brown jeans and a pair of dark red shoes. He has a red left eye and an orange right eye, with an X scar on his right eye.

I also see blood splats splattered everywhere on the walls of the back alley. There were about 10 of the thugs surrounding him, but two of them were already dead. Their bodies were cut clean right at the waist, perfectly detaching their upper body and their lower body. The rest of the thugs were screaming in fear. They did not see or know how their two comrades even died in the first place. They all have started to take a step back, fearing the man in the middle.

  “HRAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!”

One of the thugs braves himself up and runs towards the man, raising his right arm to punch him.

  *ZRAAAAAASSSHHH*

  *!*

  “AAAAAAAAAAARRRGGHHH!!!”

The man’s right arm was suddenly cut and flew off his forearm. He immediately falls to the ground, squirming in pain.

“(W-What? I didn’t see anything, yet his hand was just cut like that? What is this Faith power?)”

I was a bit scared looking at the scenery. The CCTV footage I found didn’t exactly show what he did to the boss. I thought he moved faster than the camera was able to capture him killing the boss with some type of sharp Armament. Seeing the cut wounds on the boss’s body, I thought for sure that this guy was an Armament-type Believer. But now I didn’t even see him using anything to cut that thug’s hand.

  *!*

As I was lost in my thoughts, I saw that all of the thugs had started to run away in two different directions, away from the man.

*ZRAAASSHH ZRAAASSHH ZRAAASSHH ZRAAASSHH ZRAAASSHH ZRAAASSHH ZRAAASSHH*

But every single thug was killed instantly while the man was standing still. They are all chopped up into tiny pieces within milliseconds.

  “(W-What?)”

  *!!!*

The man suddenly looks towards me above this building, but with my Vein armor, I quickly move away from the edge of the building. Hopefully, he didn’t notice me.

  . . . .

I counted 180 seconds before I crawled carefully to peek at the back alley again.

Ah, he’s gone! But I still can see him at the exit of the back alley. I can still tail him carefully. He left the back alley, and I followed him around while keeping a distance.

After a few hours, I finally arrived at that alleyway where I saw Luna for the first time. I saw him talk to her, and when they were about to leave, the rest is history.

I was defeated quickly by him. He made a fool out of me. The Iai technique that I’ve been polishing since the boss told me about, I used it on him, and I failed spectacularly. He even lectured me about what I should do with my life, and he and Luna just left me in the alleyway.

Is this it? Is this how it’s going to be?

When the boss first saw me back at the brothel, he convinced me that I was someone special. The Lunehart family has a special power to boost their Faith power.

Come to think of it, I have never found out about what this special ability is. My mind never went back to this topic even once during my entire time with the boss. I guess what I needed was a parent figure more than anything.

Maybe. . . that is why I was so contempt with my life. That’s the reason why I don’t feel strongly to avenge my parents at all. It all makes sense now.

  1. . . just wanna be with the boss and repay him all my life. I was so grateful to him to the point that I didn’t care how much of a bad person he actually was. For he never once treated me unfairly and unjustly.

  2.

THAT’S WHY I HAVE TO KILL HIM!! THE PERSON WHO MURDERED THE BOSS! MY FATHER!

I stand up firmly and tail the person once again. I followed him all the way to another country. I approached him, saying that I want to be his disciple, that I want to follow him for the rest of my life.

THIS IS BUT THE FIRST STEP!! I’LL LEARN ABOUT HIS PERSONALITY AND HIS HABITS!! I’LL ALSO FIND OUT ABOUT HOW HIS FAITH POWER WORKS!! I’LL GAIN HIS TRUST EVEN IF IT TAKES YEARS!! UNTIL I WAS CONFIDENT THAT I COULD KILL HIM WITHOUT HIM EVER DOUBTING ME IN THE MOMENT OF HIS VULNERABILITY!!

JUST YOU WAIT!! JUSTICE FOR THE BOSS!! FOR AS LONG AS I LIVED!

I WILL NEVER DIE UNTIL I AVENGED HIM!!

  . . . . .

  And yet. . .

The more I spent time with him, the more I think about him. I’ve seen his motivation. I’ve seen his Judge’s duty. I’ve seen the way he treated Luna, and I’ve seen the way he treated me.

He was. . . kind. He was rude with his words, but his actions did not match his words. At some point, he’s the only one I ever think about. This escalates even further during the killing game incident. I don’t know anymore if what I’m feeling right now is hate or love. My desire to kill him long disappeared some time ago. Now I look forward to being in his care in a deeper way.

  1. . . don’t know what’s gonna happen now.

  2.

Ever since I was born, it seems like I never gotten what I truly wished for. A family that loves me was taken away from me. A father figure who treated me with care was also taken away from me. An adorable little sister, albeit without blood relation, is now taken away from me. And now, a chance to have a life with Quroe-kun was also taken away from me.

I guess this is it. This is my life.

What purpose did I serve on this planet?

Does my life ever amount to anything?

  I shall never know.

  .

  .

  .

I open my eyes, and I see a vast, open, endless, white, empty space all around me. There is nothing in this space for as far away as the eyes can see, no matter where I look.

And then a tall figure appears in front of me. He is the same figure that I met during the fight with Hana-san. He has a hole in both of his hands. His face is so bright, I couldn’t really make out his face.

  Let’s go home, my daughter.

The figure speaks. This is the God who saved me and gave me a new power back then.

I smiled after hearing His voice. I can’t really explain it, but my heart felt like it was at perpetual ease from the moment He appeared. I took the Lord’s hand, and we walked forward as He guided me.

But then I stopped my step, and the Lord stopped as well. He looks towards me and looks at me gently.

  “. . .”

I was looking down, not looking at Him with a sad expression.

“Lord. In the end, did I accomplish what You created me for? I can’t think of a single thing I’ve done that would have served Your purpose. . .”

  The Lord smiles at me.

You put your faith in me. That’s all I ever need from you.

  1. . . was confused. My Faith? All I did was to believe in Him, and that was my purpose? I. . . don’t understand, but what He said to me created a big grin on my face nonetheless. An unexplainable joy entered my heart and stayed there for eternity.

  2.

I happily continue my steps following the Lord.

I am finally coming home. To the One who truly loves and cares about me. The One who created me in the first place.

  .

  .

  .

A few minutes before Vega saw the meteor in the sky. . .

“You stand firm against me, no matter how much weaker you are compared to me. You put your life at risk for someone else’s sake. You are afraid of me, yet you never ran away. You kept getting beaten down, yet you kept getting up. My power completely outclasses you, yet you keep pushing through past your limits. Time and time again, you stood up to me, no matter how far above my powers are compared to yours. It was never my intention for this to be the outcome. I have no grudge against you, nor do I harbour any negative feelings against you. Things happen in a fight that no one can predict. I admit that I stepped over the line so many times to psych you up. I admit that I offended you deeply towards the people that you truly cared about. It was not my place to threaten anyone close to you. I was blinded by the feeling of seeking someone strong simply because of my personal bias. I apologize, Kasumi Coldhart-san! I am truly sorry! From the bottom of my heart!”

Vega is standing two meters away from Kasumi on the ground. There is no more fire nor snow anywhere in the vicinity. All of the nearby trees within a large radius have completely disintegrated. His earlier gigantic attack disappeared as per his own will. He started lowering his body towards the ground, getting the position to kneel, and bowed his head, touching the ground, towards Kasumi.

“You have fought splendidly. These scars that you gave me will become my most important wounds out of them all. It was a great fight! I enjoyed every single second of it. I shall remember you for the rest of my life, Kasumi Coldhart!”

Kasumi was lying on the ground. Her entire body was burned to a crisp, turning her pitch black. There is not a single hair left anywhere on her body. Her skin melted away, and her clothing burned away, leaving only his burnt flesh and bones. She is no longer moving or breathing. It was hard to see because of her charcoal black body, but there was a smile on her face.

Her sheathed katana fell to the side, lying a meter away to her right.

  *PRANGGG*

Her sheathed katana cracked across its entire length, and eventually it burst and exploded into millions of smaller pieces, like fragments of broken glass. The small pieces glow and float into the air, and they rapidly vanish. Her katana armament has disappeared into thin air.

The armament of an Armament-type Believer can never be destroyed, no matter what. But there is only one instance where it would break apart, and that is death. When an Armament-type Believer died, their Armament broke apart and disappeared from the world.

If the Believer died, leaving any regret, it would leave behind a Relic Faith power. But Kasumi no longer has any regret when she died. She was picked up by His loving Creator, who washes away all of her sins, bitterness, craving, longing, and any negative emotions.

Kasumi Coldhart has peacefully passed away.
