Ch 6. Adapting To a New Life

This is an only-image chapter !

Each image tells the progression of the story within that week, without needing words to explain the life of the characters !

  A week passed.

  Helping mom.

"Thanks for helping me in the shop, sweetie. I'll make sure to give you an allowance sooner or later."

"Mom, it's okay. I can work for free. We need to save money for the school supplies..."

  Darina & The Oaks.

"So she is the only mage in your family as well?" Asked Darina before sipping from her coffee, "Oh, so glad I'm not the only one left out, ha ha!"

"Ah, sure she is!" exclaimed Mr. Oak with a wide smile, "Since she discovered her gift she hasn't stopped watering the backyard all day, ha ha!"

"Y'know, Dari, I could pick them from school!" Offered Mrs. Oak, then she took a sip from her cup. “Let us look after her for a bit.”

Darina sighed in relief, a small but sincere gesture.

“Thanks… really. Fer and I… well, we’re used to managing on our own.”

Mr. Oak gently tapped his fist on the table, as if sealing an invisible pact.

“Well, not anymore. Now you have neighbors!”

  Time alone.

"Sometimes I have to pinch myself to remember this isn't a dream..." She exhaled, staring at the night sky. "Wish you were here with us, dad. You'd love this place..."

  Baking!

"Mhm, mhm~! Oh, Mittens! You cannot eat them, you grumpy! Mmm, they are quite nice! Fer is gonna love them!"

  Family business.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"Thank you for buying~! Come back soon, we have discounts on donuts each Monday and Wednesday~!"

  Target practice.

  BOOM!

"Haah...! Dammit, need to be careful to not start a fire...! Where the hell else could I keep sharp?! Hope the school has training arenas..."

  Flower practice.

"Have some water, little one...and...you get some too!"

  School uniforms.

  "Ughhh, why skirts?!"

"Yaaay~! We look amazing, don't you think, Fer?"

"Yeah...sure, whatever you say. Are you sure we cannot wear pants?"

  Movie night!

"The Oaks invited us to a bowling night! Doesn't that sound amazing, dear?"

  "Hm..."

"Ha ha, so focused on the movie?"

"Yeah, that's not how you unjam a shotgun..."

Darina chuckled softly, resting the bowl on her knees.

“Fer, honey… it’s a comedy. They’re not trying to teach you real tactics.”

Feralynn kept her eyes glued to the screen, her brows slightly furrowed.

“That makes it worse. If you’re going to include weapons… at least do it right.”

  Church in family.

Maybe once I know more magic I could learn how to bake healing pastries!

  Buying books!

“Look, Fer, these two are perfect for your first classes. The rune one has basic exercises… and the magic theory one has pictures. Pictures. Did you hear? Pictures!”

“Mom… I’m sixteen," she softly smiled. "I don’t need pictures.”

“I didn’t need them either, and look at me: I’m still alive, I can read, and I never accidentally summoned a chicken-shaped demon. Not many people can boast about that.”

"That doesn’t…that doesn’t count as an accomplishment, Mom.”

  In the Mall.

"Do you want to go somewhere quieter? There’s a music store on the second floor. Nobody goes in because everyone stays in the cinema, so it’s like an empty sanctuary… with chairs.”

“And what are we going to do there? Look at chairs?”

“We can critique them. Pick the ugliest one. Give it a name." Annya smiled, blushing softly. "It’s better than staying in this ocean of strangers.”

“…Okay. Let’s go look at the chairs.”

  Reading a bit.

"Why are we taking notes? Don't people do that in classes?"

"Oh, come on! This is warm up. Besides, isn't it great we have spell books we could use?"

Fer watched the various names for spells and casting techniques.

"Not really. All I can do is burn things..."

  Unexpected friends.

"Dear... Diary..." She muttered while writing. "Go...fuck yourself...and die." She paused. "In a pit."

"She is...hmmm, interesting?" Annya sighed, holding her pen. "Clearly she is not normal, but, I don't dislike it. Mónica and Graciela would despise her, but not me. I want to believe that this time I'll have a friend for a longer time."
