Chapter 56. Pain

After signing the contracts, Noel finally had an update on what was going on with Emilio and Milagros. He congratulated Emilio on his high Stats, and finally he understood why his coworker left the team in the way he did.

Of course, he accepted the new job. He would be the one receiving the people to sign the contracts and introduce the idea and how it works. This made Milagros free to go, she needed to sleep and prepare for the broadcast.

In the end, all that was left was to actually try to heal his finger. It was kind of comical as it was a wound that was not at all severe, it was the kind of cut where you just put a bandaid on and keep going on with your life, but it was perfect to try his idea.

The Skills were supposed to be a guide on how to use the Stats, so he could use them without them too. With Vitality he had a particular Skill that improved his control even more.

Not only that, on that very day he used a Skill that invaded another’s body several times. The Soul Contract interacted with the other party to access their mind and he could get some inspiration from that Skill too.

With all of that in mind, he wanted to insert the Vitality into Noel’s body in the same way as the Soul Contract inserted the contract. Afterwards, he would heal him in the same way as the Regeneration healed.

Emilio decided to cut his left finger in the exact same place to verify the healing process. In less than a minute since the cut, he was healed.

Watching this made Noel finally understand what to expect in the healing process and realized why it was important to try it out. Being able to heal oneself was one thing, but to heal another person was way better.

Finally, Emilio decided to start the healing. He first decided to move the vitality in the same way he did it inside his body, but he pushed it into Noel’s arm using his hand as a point of contact.

As the Vitality started entering Noel’s body, it started dissipating. He wasn’t able to push the vitality more than one millimeter deep. Emilio decided to push more Vitality using his focus Skill. This resulted in him being able to push half a millimeter more, but not much else.

Emilio stopped and decided to think about what he did differently from the Soul Contract Skill. While thinking he saw that Noel was breathing heavily.

“Why are you like this?” Emilio asked.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

“Whatever you did, it burned. Especially at the very end. It hurted quite a bit.”

“I didn’t expect that. Does it still hurt? I don’t see any extra wounds.”

“No, it only hurts when you are doing your stuff.”

  “Do you want to stop?”

“No, keep going. You need to know if you are able to do it. At the very least, it was doing something.”

“Ok, but keep me updated on what you feel. Given that it is hard to push through I will try closer to the wound.”

Emilio decided to try touching his finger, and making that his point of contact. He also concluded that the way to go was not a constant flow as he had in his body but a ball of concentrated vitality, just as his Soul Contract worked.

He controlled his Vitality to focus on his finger, and concentrated it into a ball. He used the same amount he needed to heal his finger and once the little ball of vitality was ready, he touched Noel’s finger and pushed it through to the direction of the wound.

As soon as the ball entered Noel’s body, he started screaming. After one big scream he stopped, but was still sweating.

“That hurts a lot! Are you sure this is healing?”

“Does it still hurt?” Emilio asked. He could no longer feel the Vitality after it left his body, a big difference against the contract Skill.

“Yeah, but it is lowering. The pain traveled to the wound.”

Emilio focused on the wound again and it had healed a little. Almost a quarter of the way. “The good news is that it is healing. The bad news is that the Vitality needed is more than what I use. With that amount I would have healed the wound in my finger.”

Noel couldn’t believe what he said and focused on his finger. “It actually healed, can you completely heal it?”

“I can try, but I’m afraid it might be painful again.”

  “Just try it.”

This time they decided that it was better for Noel to be seated down. They knew it was going to be a painful process.

Emilio focused on making another ball of Vitality, but this time with three times as much as Vitality than before. Once it was compressed he decided to touch the finger right besides the wound as he pushed the ball into Noel’s body.

The instant the foreign Vitality entered his body, Noel started to tense all over his body. As it progressed and focused on his wound he started screaming. After about a minute, everything calmed down. Noel stopped feeling pain and could relax.

After a few more minutes he could finally recover enough to speak. “Remind me to never let you heal me again.”

  “Did it work?”

Noel opened his closed fist and they could see the wound fully healed. “It’s not worth it,” Noel sighed, “I would have been just fine with the wound and no pain.”

“It is still good to know that I can heal others. Maybe for worse wounds it will be more useful. Though I think it might be even more painful and it would take longer to heal.”

Noel had shivers just from the thought of it, “I hope I never have to experience that.”
