She walked into the adventurer’s guild and stood in line behind two other people, she only had to wait five minutes before she was called up.
“Next,” the human male behind the counter said. I walked up to the counter, “How may I assist you today little miss, are you looking to register with the guild?”
“Not today, my father, Lord Beldroth Enthyra, told me to come down here and rent the best training room you have, I need to train multiple different types of skills, ranged, multi-target and melee.”
He stared at her dumbfoundedly, likely thinking how spoiled this rich little noble was to have such a wide range of skills right after unlocking the system.
“Understood my lady, the best room we have available is for B-grades though, do you perhaps want to get the room for D-grades instead? It costs about five-hundred less gold per hour, it’s best D-grade room is fifty gold per hour.”
“I’ll take the best D-grade room for four hours please.” She pulled two hundred gold from her necklace and placed it on the counter.
He put the gold in a storage device and handed her a card, “It’s room D ten, just swipe the card on the rune underneath the room number. It’ll unlock the room for you for four hours, at which points the lighting runes will turn off, after four and a half hours the card will send a signal to the guild, even in spatial storage, alerting us to your location, so please turn the card in here after you finish your training.”
“Understood, thank you, sir. I will ensure to return this card promptly upon completion of my training for the day.”
“Enjoy your training, next.”
She walked through the doors in the back and started looking at the numbers on the doors, she passed a few before she saw one marked D-10. She swiped the card on the ruin under the nameplate and the door slid open for her, she walked inside, and the door closed behind her. On the wall above the door there was what appeared to be a countdown, it read:
3:59:55
That’s nice, having a timer to let people know how much time they have left in the room. She looked around, the room was about fifty yards long and twenty wide, there were multiple training dummies in the room, the walls and floor appeared to be made of stone, which was perfect for training with lightning.
She walked up to the nearest group of dummies, held up her right hand and activated chain lightning, lightning traveled from her hand to the dummy and spread from that dummy to three more. Not bad for a level one skill, I wonder how many targets I could hit at level ten, I know not every level will increase targets, some will reduce cost, speaking of which, the cost is one-hundred mana per second, so with me casting it non-stop I will run out of mana in a little over eighty seconds.
Sure enough, she got a massive headache around eighty seconds later, but she also got something else right beforehand:
*Ding* Chain Lightning has increased to level 2
I know it’s only low level right now, but I was expecting to deplete my mana pool at least twice in a training environment before leveling it, I’m going to get it to level three before I switch to lightning bolt.

She sat down and entered meditation, all senses were cut off and she waited on her mana pool to top out. It took twenty minutes to fill her mana pool. She checked her chain lightning skill to see what changed:
Chain Lightning (LVL 2): Strikes your opponent with lightning, from there it spreads to up to three targets. Damage is dependent on intelligence and skill level. It cost 90 mana per second.
It seems like now it’ll take ninety seconds to deplete my mana pool, but this time I doubt the skill will level.
She stood up and cast chain lightning on the dummy again, it spread to three others, she kept casting it until the mana headache hit again, like she thought originally, she did not receive a skill level this time. She sat back down and meditated again. Twenty minutes later she was ready to go again, she stood up and cast chain lightning again, depleted her mana pool, didn’t get a skill level, sat down and meditated. One hour of her time so far has been spent on meditation.
I believe my mana recovery might be reliant on my willpower, maybe I should focus on that first, I already have a high vitality, but I’m primarily a mage and need mana. Maybe I’ll split my stat points between the toughness and willpower until they’re both at least at one-hundred.
She stood back up and used chain lightning again, ten seconds later she got a notification and stopped:
*Ding* Chain Lightning has increased to level 3
Perfect, now let’s top up on mana and start working on lightning bolt.
She meditated for a couple minutes and received a notification:
*Ding* Meditation has increased to level 2
About time, this skill takes forever to level it seems, and it’s vital to training, especially with my low willpower stat, I really wish my old system had a willpower stat, I wouldn’t be in this predicament, I assume it was in with intelligence or wisdom like toughness was probably in with endurance. I have no idea what determined perception, but I don’t feel like the stat is important for my class, so I’m not too worried about it.
She stood back up and walked to the other side of the room and launched a lightning bolt at the target, hitting it in the chest. She tried summoning as many lightning bolts as she could, which turned out to be just the one, and launched it at the target. At least I’m not limited to summoning them in my hands like I was with dark bolt when I first got it. I wonder if that’s because of my experience summoning mana away from my body or just natural with this system. I also wonder if there are any domain skills like my shadow prison that would allow me to summon more bolts at a time, I was limited to three outside of shadow prison but could summon ten in shadow prison.
She continued using lightning bolt until she got a mana headache, unfortunately she did not level the skill, but each bolt cost two hundred mana so she wasn’t surprised. She meditated and the skill level had only saved her a minute on her regeneration. Halfway through depleting her mana pool again, she finally got the notification:
*Ding* Lightning Bolt has increased to level 2
She decided to check what had changed:
Lightning Bolt (LVL 2): Summon a lightning bolt to launch at your target. Damage is determined by intelligence and skill level. It cost 200 mana per bolt. Leveling increases damage, reduces cost and increases number of bolts you can summon.
It didn’t appear that anything had changed, so she assumed it increased the damage output. She continued to train lightning bolt like this until her time expired, she felt like she was close to a skill level, but it could wait until later. She left the room and turned in the card before heading home.
Upon arriving at home, she was greeted by Walter who escorted her to the dining room for a late lunch. Shortly after being seated Arthur brought out her lunch, roasted meat chopped up into bite size pieces and assorted fruit chopped the same way. She ate quickly before going up to her father’s study and knocking on the door.
“Enter,” came Beldroth’s voice from inside the room.
She entered the room and curtsied to her father. “I have returned from my training for the day father. It was a productive day for both chain lightning and lightning bolt.”
“Oh, you trained for what, four hours, and got a level in both chain lightning and lightning bolt, that’s impressive.”
She decided not to correct him, she knew she was only able to get the gains she had because of her ridiculous mana pool for her level.
