Chapter 8: Potion Shopping

“Roman makes the best potions, however, I think we’re going to get you some elixirs, so we need to go to a D-grade alchemist. So, the only shop stocked by a D-grade alchemist is the one right next to the adventurer’s guild. The only problem with that shop is they don’t have skill potions, so we’ll get most of our potions at Roman's shop, then head over to the one next to the adventurer’s guild. Roman's shop is, right there,” he said and pointed to the shop two doors down from the skill book shop.

They walked over to it, Elora read the sign above the door:

  Roman's Potions

How original. She thought as they walked in the door. There were display cases with potions in them scattered around the shop, there were also four people in line. They stood in the line and waited, however, as soon as they woman behind the counter was through with the first customer, she called out, “Lord Beldroth, I’ll help you now. I’m sure these customers won’t mind letting the city lord cut in line.”

The three customers in front of them turned around, noticed who was behind them, stood to the side and bowed, muttering in unison, “Go right ahead my lord.”

The special treatment is so embarrassing, when it is being recognized wherever we go it’s not bad, however when it’s everybody kissing his ass it is so damn embarrassing. I should have known everything was going too well, we haven’t gotten much preferential treatment at all today, and what we did get they did their best to disguise it.

“Thank you, Marie,” Beldroth said as he approached the counter with a slightly red in the face Elora in tow.

“What can I interest you in today my lord?”

“The main item we’re here for is skill experience potions, do you have any in stock?”

“We have six of them readily available, let me head in the back and ask Roman if he’s brewed any that he hasn’t given me yet, unless you have another special potion you’re here for that I will have to bother him for.”

“We're here after standard adventuring potions for a D-grade, so I doubt there will be anything you would consider special.”

“Alright, I’ll be right back then,” she turned around and walked through the doorway behind her. She was gone for about five minutes before returning. “We have a total of sixteen skill experience potions and Roman said if you need more, he would gladly make them a priority and deliver them to your manor.”

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“Are any of you three in here for skill experience potions, I don’t want to clear them out if the kind people who let me cut are wanting any,” he turned around and looked at them, they all shook their heads no. “We will take sixteen for now, and put in an order for twenty-four more, but there’s no rush on them, I doubt Elora will go through more than a couple a day, they last for four hours still, correct?”

“She pulled out a grey potion and Elora used identify on it:

Greater Skill Experience Potion: Boosts skill experience by 50% for five hours.

*Ding* Identify has increased to level 2

“He has increased the potency of it, now it gives a fifty percent boost instead of forty, and lasts an extra hour. Needless to say the price has increased from fifty gold to eighty gold.”

“Excellent, I’ll pay for the full order up front. We will also take twenty-five each of lesser stamina and mana potions and ten lesser health potions.”

  “Excellent, will that be all?”

“Yes, unless Roman has a D-grade apprentice at the moment.”

“He doesn’t, that will be three thousand five hundred gold.”

He pulled out his bank card and tapped it to hers. She then waved her hand over the counter and sixteen grey potions, ten red, twenty-five green, and twenty-five blue potions appeared on the counter. Beldroth stepped back and motioned for Elora to store them. She waved her hand over them, barely touching the corks, with them disappearing whenever she did.

“Thank you for shopping with us, we will make sure to deliver those potions as soon as they’re brewed. Have a good rest of your day.”

“You as well,” Beldroth said. They turned around and walked out of the shop. They headed towards the adventurer’s guild in the center of the city. It only took them three minutes; they entered a potion shop with a sign hanging in front of the shop that read:

  Necessary Adventuring Potions

Very straight forward name to attract certain clientele. I like it.

“Welcome to Necessary Adventuring Potions, for all an adventurer’s potion needs, how may I assist you today?” The dwarf behind the counter asked as soon as they cleared the doorway. Clearly not as popular as Roman’s Potions, there aren’t any customers currently here, although maybe most adventurers do their shopping in the morning or evening, it’s still only about four thirty.

“Yes, we’re in here for some D-grade elixirs. My daughter needs about twenty stats worth of elixirs.”

“Certainly, and what stats are you interested in, my lady?”

“I’m doing a lot of training right now, and my biggest limiter is my mana regeneration, so I would appreciate it all in willpower.”

“Certainly,” she waved her hand, and four clear potions appeared on the counter, “four willpower elixirs will be twenty gold.”

Elora waved her hand over the counter, depositing twenty gold and collecting the elixirs. “Thank you very much ma’am.”

“Pleasure doing business with you, is there anything else I can get for you?”

“No, we needed skill potions so we got everything else at Roman’s Potions, he’s the only one in the city who can brew skill potions.”

“Alright, I hope you think of us next time you need anything else. Have a good rest of your day.”

With that they left the shop. “Father, I’m wore out, let’s just head back to the manor and relax for the day, I can inquire about a practice glaive when I go to the adventurer’s guild tomorrow.”

“Of course, dear, let’s go home.”
