Ink, as usual, was sitting outside the entrance to the mine along with his companion. He had a duty to guard it as well as keep it working.
A guy walked out of the mine.
Ink examined him — a rough build with long black hair. The clothes looked old and were torn.
He had no idea who this was. They had guarded the entrance the whole day and never saw this man.
Ink's eyes narrowed. The man was dragging a huge creature. It looked very bloody, with some body parts missing.
He noticed a human arm as well.
'A dead body? But were human bodies this big?' he thought.
Ink didn't think it was some other creature, as its blood was red. The low mimic centipede had mutated its blood to look and smell like a human’s to disguise itself better.
The stranger walked towards them and stopped right in front of the desk.
He then threw the body on the desk. The desk, not able to support such force, broke easily.
Ink and his companion jumped back in shock.
"What are you doing!? Do you wish to die?" Ink's companion shouted.
Ink didn't speak. He was on full alert and ready to defend if any attacks came.
The man pointed at the body and said, "I caught this in the mines."
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
He caught it? But what is this?
"I don't know what this is. It looked like a centipede. I was mining and saw it dragging a human body. I followed it and, when I got the chance, I attacked it."
The man, as if reading his thoughts, replied.
'A centipede! Is this the rainbow centipede? That explains the human arm. It was eating its prey and was vulnerable. But how was he able to kill it? They are all Grade 1, and even I need to be careful' Ink thought.
Ink eyed him suspiciously. The man looked at him.
He said he was mining. Did he get an opportunity inside there?
Becoming a transcendent without official support wasn't that strange — it happened a lot.
But what kind of opportunity did he get? To turn a mortal into something that can kill a centipede so brutally!
Ink was shocked. But then a nefarious thought crossed his mind.
'He must be a peak novice. If I am able to kill him with my ability, I’m sure I will be able to cross the boundary between Novice and Senior.'
Ashes was looking at him, his face showing no emotion. But he was smiling inwardly.
Celestes was telling him what Ink was thinking. Celestes was an Absolute with a mind ability, after all.
But he was sure he would have known what Ink was thinking even without her. Ink was so stupid, he couldn't even hide his emotions showing on his face.
To advance up sub-classes, one had to revel in their Nature and keep using their ability.
Celestes told him how it works, though he didn't understand at first. After some more explanation, he understood the basics.
It’s like an experience bar in games. When you use your ability, you get a little bit of experience points and the bar fills up a little. You advance classes just like how you level up when the bar fills up completely.
Though you have to do one major task before you can advance. Celestes told him it's like breaking a wall between the classes.
To kill someone stronger than you would certainly count as a great achievement and would significantly fill up that bar. If the killer is already at the threshold of leveling up, then it would make them advance to the next class. If the achievement is significant enough, they might also advance a sub-class.
Ink believed that Ashes was a peak Novice. Killing him would advance Ink up to beginner Senior.
Ink looked down at his bag. He had a space-related ability. He could create bags that were connected to something else — in this case, to a storage facility inside a factory in the capital.
Unfortunately, only he could use this. If he gave his bag to someone else, it would turn into a normal bag.
His ability was marked as normal. A company then hired him and he was tasked with transporting ores to help him advance.
But 13 years had passed, and he had only become an almost peak Novice. His talent was normal — even trash to some people — and he was forgotten.
A significant improvement in ability only happens after two class advancements. If he becomes a Senior, his ability would only improve a bit. But if he becomes an Elder, his ability would become a lot better.
The man at the Ability Research Organization told him that he would be able to not just create bags that could be used by others, but also transport living beings through them.
But sadly, his ability was not anything special. There were a lot of space-related abilities around, and many were better than his.
He had lost all hope to ever advance and was just resigning to his fate — until this walking potion came.
He could have killed another transcendent, even his companions, but they were strictly monitored. There were investigating abilities so good, they could even find a specific ant among millions of ants.
He had no chance against them, and once found out, he would become a test subject and go through hell for however long he lived.
