[Random underling POV]
Sometimes I wonder how I got stuck having to keep an eye on the blood witch. Oh right, Audrey caused a bit of a mess and I suck at poker.
"Why did Audrey have to get reassigned?"(Random underling)
I could only voice my grievances before returning to the assigned task. The witch decided to take Gale on another walk. No doubt to find something to occupy her mind or look for new inspiration for her next experiment. I shuddered at the thought of what madness she would come up with. Last time she was looking at the mutants in the containment area with a pleased smile soon after she made her interest in going near the Shift known. Now she is heading to the pool and I could only fear what would come from this visit.
[Kim POV]
Standing inside the ring in Lily's b I was sparring with Ivan since Gale was on a date with Lily. It was an interesting experience. While Gale fights like a boxer, Ivan prefers to grapple his opponents. That's not to say Gale doesn't use the occasional grapple in his fighting style, but Ivan almost exclusively uses them. Soon our training session ended and feeling like my joints got a new range of motion with how many times I was put into some form of lock. I sat next to Jill who handed me some water as I formed ice to put on my injuries.
"Do either of you know where Lily is taking Gale?"(Kim)
"Nope!"(Jill)
"I heard something about swimming."(Ivan)
Jill replied happily even though she didn't have the answer, but Ivan at least had some information. When he mentioned swimming an image of Jill in her swimsuit fshed in my mind and I tried to keep my cheeks from becoming red. I shook my head before speaking.
"Whatever it is I hope they have fun."(Kim)
As the aching in my joints started to fade, yay healing factor, I decided to practice my cryomancy. I tried to form a sword of ice in my hand, but it looked more like a big misshapen bat. Even though it didn't look right I decided to give it a few practice swings, which was a bad idea, because it spit apart after the third one. I sighed as I quickly picked up the pieces of ice before they melted completely. Jill walked up before I could try again.
"Why do you keep trying to make a weapon?"(Jill)
"I just thought wielding a sword made of ice would be cool."(Kim)
I internally winced at my unintentional pun as I saw Ivan giggling in the corner of my eye.
"But can't you just freeze opponents with a touch instead?"(Jill)
"I could but my ice isn't that strong yet and I need to be able to keep it frozen. Right now my ice heats up too quickly at room temperature."(Kim)
"But if you make someone freeze then you don't need the sword shape."(Jill)
"Yeah, but I wanted to use a sword."(Kim)
"One who chases two hares catches neither."(Ivan)
It seemed like Ivan had finally composed himself enough to talk. Jill nodded along with some drool coming from her mouth.
"I see your point."(Kim)
"Does that mean we get to have rabbets for lunch?"(Jill)
It looks like Jill didn't realize that the rabbets were metaphorical.
"I shall see if the chef has any for us to enjoy."(Ivan)
"Yay! I wonder how it will taste when cooked with seasonings that we didn't have in the wild?"(Jill)
"I'm sure it will be great. He hasn't let me down yet."(Ivan)
With that, Ivan headed to the cafeteria to get food. I immediately tried to make ice between my hands, hopefully, some that wouldn't warm up in this environment. A small uneven chunk of frost formed in my hands and gradually grew rger until it was the size of a melon. It was still misshapen but I let it sit on the towels I used to clean up earlier. It was still melted but it sted twice as long. Soon I had to stop because Ivan returned with food. I had pnned to continue training after eating but Jill had other ideas. Once the food was gone Jill shouted.
"It's time for fluffing!"(Jill)
She dragged me by the arm into our room. I only had time to give Ivan an apologetic look before the door closed, and Jill pulled out a wooden box. Jill opened it up to reveal the Ultimate Brush, and I knew we would be here for a while.
The next few days I followed a simir pattern of combat training, esper practice, and brushing Jill's tails as we got closer to the day of the expedition. I still can't make a sword, but my ice can st four times as long as before. I don't know what will happen but Lily has assured me that she and Jill will be there when we get to the Shift.
[Boss POV]
I was sitting in my office waiting for Audrey to show up. I could already feel a headache start from having to deal with her, I swear once I'm in control she will be the first to go. Suddenly I was snapped from my thoughts as my door smmed open, and Audrey walked in.
"Heya boss did you miss me?"(Audrey)
"Hello Audrey, I see you forgot to knock, again."(Boss)
"You need to give up on that or finally get a sense of humor."(Audrey)
"And you need to take this seriously. Do you even remember your part in the pn?"(Boss)
"Yeah yeah. I'm to keep the madwoman and her group distracted so your stooges can get blue hair away from them."(Audrey)
Her tone was like a child who had to take out the trash or do her homework.
"Good at least I don't have to remind you of your role."(Boss)
"So what do you want her for anyways?"(Audrey)
"That isn't your concern, all I need from you is for you to do your part. Now get out of here you all set out tomorrow."(Boss)
"You only called me in to make sure I remembered my part? Gd to see you have so much faith in me."(Audrey)
Audrey made one st snarky comment before leaving with the door wide open. After I was sure she was gone I opened a drawer containing a bottle of aspirin and took some.
Good now everything is set for tomorrow, soon I'll have the power to take what is rightfully mine.
