LOOT DROP Chapter: 19

  LOOT DROP Chapter: 19

While Faith talked with the manager of the guild hall, Fisk stood outside the door standing beside a table comparing his map with the map of the region laid out on the table.

“Interesting…” Fisk muttered as his own map updated, showing him where two of his objectives were.

One token was in an area that looked to be a massive city while the other was located in a place that looked mountainous and rugged.

  “Excuse me sir.”

Fisk turned, greeting the receptionist that brought him a bag of items and a new pair of pants.

“Courtesy of the Adventurer’s hall and compensation for the earlier fiasco,” The receptionist said as Fisk opened the bag.

  [Potion of Health x3]

  [Potion of Mana x2]

  [Potion of Stamina x2]

  [2000¢]

“Tw-two thousand?!” Fisk exclaimed, looking up at the woman as he took out two gold bars from the bag, “This is so much!”

“Uhm, its compensation for your suffering,” The receptionist said, Fisk’s mood elated as the woman bowed and left him to get dressed in his new pair of trousers.

“Huh…” Fisk cast observe on the items as he sent them to his inventory, each one restoring a hundred points of their respective stat.

A useful item, especially since he was low on mana.

  Speaking of mana…

Fisk opened up the forums, his post, flooded with hundreds of comments that gave him feedback on how to build his class.

Fisk opened his system, dumping five of his available points into arcana with each point given him ten MP while the rest he placed in health.

A jolt through his body made Fisk wince, his body tingling and shimmering in place for a moment as he stared down at his hands.

Then, the sensation passed, Fisk's breathing somehow better than usual, like a gas mask had been removed off his face.

Fisk closed out his thread, his eyes reading the plethora of complaint threads about his earlier bout with Crimson. A fact that had

Looking out the window of the room he was in, Fisk could already see a visible decrease in players, the rabid mob quick to move in search of promised loot and XP.

“Well… that's one problem solved,” Fisk said as Faith finally emerged from the manager's office. “Everything okay?”

“Everything is fine,” Faith said, beaming a bright smile at Fisk and her own adventurer permit, “I got my own permit! I'm an adventurer!”

“Congratulations?” Fisk said, a slight smile as she hugged him, the woman clearly elated over the piece of metal that was nothing but a tool for him.

“We can go anywhere! See all kinds of places! Go on grand adventures!” Faith said, the woman bouncing up and down in jubilation as she hugged Fisk. “You should be excited! Why aren't you excited?!”

“Look, Faith,” Fisk sighed, decided to temper the woman's expectations, “I’m not looking to go on a grand adventurer or anything, I got a job to do, and that's what I'm going to do.”

“Oh… right…” Faith deflated. “So… now that you have your permit and you can walk… you'll probably be on your way now huh…”

“That's about it,” Fisk said, looking down at the downcast woman, “But… I'll need some travel funds first, equipment, so… maybe we can do a few quests together.”

“Really!” Faith perked up, the glimmer of her mood almost blinding to Fisk who had to shield his eyes from the adoring look the woman gave.

“Yeah! Just… let me get your opinion on something,” Fisk said, drawing the woman's attention to the map laid out on the table, “What is this place?”

“The Atlas plateau,” Faith replied, her mood souring as Fisk’s finger drifted to the large city.

“That…” Faith's murmured, “Would be the capital of Vuriksha, Assuia…”

“Well, I need to get to these two places.”

  “Why?”

“Just, something I’m looking for. Have you ever heard of any kind of token or ancient artifacts buried in these areas?” Fisk asked, decided to try his luck. “Like a coin or anything like that?”

Would be so much easier if Eve just told me what exactly I'm looking for…

“Uhm no?” Faith said, “There are all sorts of items buried in various ruins, ancient temples, abandoned groves, lost islands! Maybe we can search the atlas plateau for what you're looking for!”

Faith’s eyes glimmered with stars, her voice growing louder with every location listed.

“Yeah, but I don't want to go unprepared, so we'll need to take a quest first to get some cash,” Fisk said, rubbing his chin. “I also don't want to put you in harm's way if I can help it so we should get you kitted out… what? Why are you looking at me like that?”

“You want to take me shopping?”

“Uh… yeah? Wait, why are you crying?!”

Faith began to tear up, “It's just… no one has ever taken me shopping before. Even my ex-husband refused.”

  Fisk blinked, “You were married?”

Faith's face went blank for a moment, not realizing what she had said until the words were out.

Her mood quickly became sullen, her eyes downcast, “Yes… I was. He passed five years ago.”

“Sorry,” Fisk replied, unsure how to comfort the woman who didn't seem sad, instead, she looked… angry.

“Well, I've got two thousand coins from the guide hall, I'll give you half,” Fisk said, removing a golf bar from his inventory to hand to Faith. “So… uh… let's get geared up?”

Faith wiped the tears from her face, her frown replaced with a smile, “Okay! Let's do this!”

  ****

Walking down the cobblestone streets, Fisk and Faith made their way down to the town stores relatively unscathed.

After killing the two players unintentionally at the guild hall, most of the players seemed keen on giving him space, that didn't stop them from following him however, as despite not being approached he still had a crowd of stalkers following him.

“Why… why are they following us like that?” Faith asked, pulling her cowl closer to her face.

“They're just curious,” Fisk replied as he eyed a rack of armor and weapons on display in front of a store. “Let's try this store.”

Fisk entered the weapons shop, the storefront covered by numerous displays of weapons and armor that littered the whole shop.

“Welcome! How may I help you?” The store clerk said, greeting Fisk as soon as he entered the shop.

“Just browsing,” Fisk sent back, deciding to use observe on a set of plain looking steel armor.

“Huh?” Fisk blinked, his eyes on the price tag before he looked away, using observe on a different item instead.

  [Steel-tipped Spear]

  [Stats]

  +13 Attack

  What… how the fuck?!

“Oh wow, the items here have really risen in price,” Faith said, leaning down to observe the armor Fisk had been looking at.

Risen?! I USED TO WORK INSURANCE AND THIS IS MORE OF A SCAM! Fisk nearly yelled yet held his tongue.

“Excuse me,” Fisk said, approaching the counter where the clerk beamed a friendly smile, “I'm looking for something within the price range of one to two thousand coins, you wouldn't-”

“I'm sorry sir, but if you can't afford our wares, I'll have to ask you to leave,” The woman said deadpan before Fisk and Faith found themselves outside of the store.

“Why…” Fisk pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Cheer up Mr. Fisk, I'm sure we can find something cheap but usable!” Faith said, her enthusiasm almost irritating if not for the bright smile on her face that made Fisk sigh.

Six stores later however, Faith was singing a different tune.

“Ugh! I'm so sick of these immortals!” Faith yelled, hands in the air in frustration as she yelled at the sky. “It's not fair! Why do they raise the prices of everything everywhere they go!”

“Cheer up, I'm sure we'll find something cheap but usable,” Fisk joked.

“Not funny! We can barely afford food with this amount!”

“Inflation is a bitch…” Fisk muttered before his gaze was taken by movement in his peripheral vision. “Oh… neat. So this is happening.”

Sonichu, he had emerged, the yellow furry flanked by a group of players that parted the crowd that had been busy stalking Fisk.

“YOU!” Sonichu spat, “I’LL KILL YO-”

Fisk's hand came up, his shotgun drowning out whatever words the incest player was about to say.
