Prologue – Secret Government Research Facility

  “Mr. Igna, we’ve got something you need to see.”

  Igor Igna strode through the research facility until he stood next to Dr. Fischer, the head of Research and Development. “I hope this is good, for your sake and mine,” Igor stated with just a hint of irritation. “We’ve been operating for twelve years, and the Defense Authority is ready for results.”

  “Ah, well, yes, I am aware of that.” Dr. Fischer pushed his rectangular glasses further up his nose. “There’s no need to worry. We have discovered something this time.” The scientist waved Igor over to a large screen, then quickly typed a few commands into his computer, displaying a diagram of two DNA strands on the screen. “These are the DNA of two promising candidates for our program,” he explained. “They recently enrolled in an ancestry program, giving us access to their genetics.” He pressed a button, and the strands were covered with differing shades of green and blue, though the blue far outweighed the green.

  Igor stared at the screen. “That’s impossible.”

  Dr. Fischer let out a quiet chuckle. “Oh, it’s possible, all right. I’ve never seen one person – let alone two – who has had this much potential as a superhuman. We need to do some tests first, though, for which we’ll need time, money, thorough research…”

  Igor brushed off the concerns. “I can provide all of that. Tell me what you need, and I will get it. Just make sure you continue to produce results. You and I both know that the Defense Authority doesn’t take no for an answer.”

  Dr. Fischer nodded, but as his superior walked away, he wondered what exactly he had gotten himself into.
