Chapter Sixteen: The Wedding Night
"With a creak, I suppose that demon has arrived. My head is covered with a red cloth, and I can vaguely see his shadow. I hear him close the door, walk near, and stop in front of me. One minute, five minutes, ten minutes... what's wrong with this king? Is he just standing in front of me like this, staring at something? Won't he lift the cover? Testing my patience? Ha! It seems I've finally met a worthy opponent. Just like when I was in the company, I didn't learn anything else, but my endurance is top-notch."
Just as I decided to have a showdown with this demon, the cover was lifted. Looking at the red cover in his hand, wasn't it supposed to be lifted with a pole? I looked up at him, wearing a bright red happy dress, empty on top of his head, and I thought he could wear a hat!
Just like when I first met him, his hair was casually tied up, and his face was expressionless. Yet, he was different from Wan Ri Cheng. Although Wan Ri Cheng didn't have any expressions either, he gave people a feeling of no danger, whereas this demonic prince still had a hint of coldness that made one feel suffocated, and more so, it was somewhat terrifying.
"Madam, how much longer?"
I was suddenly stunned by his words and didn't know how to respond. I had no choice but to stand up, walk around him, and say, "Your Highness, let me take off my crown first."
Sitting in front of the purple sandalwood dresser, I glanced at him through the mirror, and he was already leaning against the bed, probably not looking this way. Ah, my poor eyes! Alas, I really don't know if this prince is a sickly person or what, why does he lean wherever he likes?
"Good grief! How did this wretched crown get stuck on my head, and now it won't come off? Ow, ow, my hair is being pulled so hard it hurts. What to do? Should I go find that demon king for help? I sneak a peek into the copper mirror... Oh no, I'm scared to death! Where's he gone? There's not even a shadow of the demon king on the bed."
Suddenly, I felt a warmth on my fingertips, and through the copper mirror, the demon was already standing behind me. When did he come over? He's helping me take off my hairpiece! Still with that expressionless face, if only he could smile, it would definitely be more handsome than his current cold and icy appearance, what a waste of such a beautiful face.
"What does the lady think is wrong with me?" Eh?
"However, madam couldn't wait and wanted to go to bed immediately." Ah!
"Still..."
"No!" I almost said it at the same time as him, but my voice was a bit higher. The demon put down the hair crown on the dresser and turned to walk towards the bed, sitting down on the edge of the bed, leaning against the bedpost, gesturing for me to sit on the other side of the bed. I followed him over and stopped about two meters away from him.
"I just want to ask the king, why did you agree to this marriage? I suppose you've also investigated me, even if I'm the daughter of a prime minister, I'm from the countryside and haven't seen any grand scenes, nor do I know the rules of a noble lady. There are so many ladies from prestigious families, why would you make me the queen?"
The demon didn't respond to me, just quietly staring at me. One second, two seconds... one minute, two minutes... five minutes passed, and he was still staring at me like that. I felt a bit impatient, should I walk closer and take a look?
"This king had already arranged a marriage with one of Prime Minister's daughters when I was young, but which daughter it would be hadn't been decided yet. As long as she is Prime Minister's daughter, whoever marries in will become the queen." This really scared me to death, and he didn't even give any warning before speaking.
"But Prince Wang... isn't this a bit too forced? Must the daughter of Lord Xiang be blind or crippled for her to be married into our household?"
"Yes." Indeed keeping one's promise.
"Even if we don't consider those things, age should be taken into account too. I'm 28 years old this year, and I'm definitely several years older than you, Prince Wang!"
"So what?"
"Your Highness, don't you mind?"
"The king only married a main wife, no matter how old she was or how disabled she was, it's just filling a position." I looked at him with an expressionless face, and the temperature on my body dropped suddenly. So that's how it is.
"Your Highness, Your Highness."
"Come in."
"Your Highness, the fourth madam asks when you will be going over, as all the wine and dishes have already been prepared."
"It's all in the past."
"Yes." The little girl bowed and turned around to leave, that rascal didn't even give me a glance.
The demon got up from the bed, brushed past me, and it turned out that he never intended to sleep here. On our wedding night, my husband wants to sleep with another woman, this is a huge irony. Although it's better for me like this, doesn't this show that I won't have good days in this palace in the future?
"Since my heart is no longer with me, anyone can go through it, let me go, let me leave the Wang Fu."
I turned around to look at the demon, his hand that was about to open the door stopped in mid-air, and he walked towards me with a few steps. I took a step back, but he took another step forward, his body pressing in on me, making me feel suffocated. I wanted to retreat again, but realized there was no room to move behind me. My upper body had already leaned back, and as a result, I fell onto the bed with a thud. Luckily, my hands grabbed hold of the bed railing just in time, preventing me from lying flat on the bed. Just as I was about to get up, the demon king leaned over and whispered an answer that I knew all too well into my ear.
"What's going on? I'm afraid it won't work!" He actually smiled, a smile that left people bewildered.
"Why? It's a small matter for the prince." I looked up at him, trying to show an indifferent expression on my face, but my heart was racing like it was overloaded and my fingers hurt even more.
"If you want to leave the palace, there is actually a way."
"What method?"
"Get out of the way," the demon's words paused, "Take him away!"
He still smiled, although this smile made me lose my mind for a moment, but the cold sweat on my back and the rapidly beating heart reminded me that the person in front of me was absolutely a wolf in sheep's clothing.
"Got it."
He didn't avoid my line of sight, and I forced myself to respond. He remained expressionless, stood up, and left. I collapsed onto the bed, unable to get back up again. Afterwards, I lost consciousness. Later on, I couldn't figure out whether I had fallen asleep or fainted.
Five days later, I was completely awake, and it was already noon. My head still felt a bit heavy, but not as unbearable as the previous few days. I reached out to touch my forehead, and the fever had subsided. In this cold winter season, going without covering myself with a quilt for one night, it would be hard not to come down with a fever.
"Madam, you're awake."
"Xiao Yue, help me get some water, I'm really thirsty."
"Good."
That night after the demon left, I fainted on the bed for two days without covering myself with a quilt, and then my fever got even worse. Later, Fu's mother sent over Xiaoyue, originally to take care of me, but now it seems like she saved my life; otherwise, if I were alone in this room, I would have died from the fever and no one would have known.
Xiao Yue called Lin Yiyue, hearing her name reminded me of the Xiao Yue from Xiang Fu, that naive and lovely little girl had long become a victim under the knife. So out of nostalgia, I kept Xiao Yue, calling her Xiao Yue, in this Wang Fu, I need someone to help me run errands...
