Chapter 2 Entering the Prime Minister's Estate for the First Time
The old man sighed, raised his hand, and she fell into the old man's arms. The old man stretched out his hand to pick her up, but his body swayed, and the man who was supporting him saw this, bent down to pick up the girl and put her in the carriage, then came back to support the old man onto the carriage. After getting off the carriage, he came straight to me and helped me up.
"Can you ride a horse?"
"No."
"Then you and I ride one horse, is it possible?"
"Good."
"This way, please." He made a beckoning gesture, I nodded and lifted my foot to take a step, but before I could lift it off the ground, I fell over. It seems that my legs are still quite weak, probably can't walk. I looked up at him, shook my head, he squatted down, said "sorry" and then picked me up and put me on the horse. Then he jumped onto the horse, tightened the reins, whipped it once, and this large group of people and horses began to move forward.
The pace was not very fast, and there were no words in the crowd, as if they were mourning for the dead. The head was dizzy, suddenly feeling hot and dry, a stream of heat rushed out from the corner of the mouth, and the next second I lost consciousness.
When I woke up again, it was already evening. With great difficulty, I propped myself up and, relying on the candlelight on the table, found that I was in a room. I wanted to sit up but couldn't muster any strength at all. My mouth was also very dry. A figure appeared before my eyes, startling me into jumping. How come I hadn't seen her just now?
"Miss, you're awake." I only then noticed a 14 or 15-year-old little girl standing in front of me, smiling slightly at me. "My name is Xiao Yue, what do you want to do? Just tell me and it's done."
I moved my mouth, but couldn't make a sound, my mouth was too dry, so I pointed shakily at the teacup on the table. She understood and went to pour water, helped me up, I drank a few sips and handed the cup back to her hand.
She helped me lie down, and said, "Miss, you'd better lie down. The doctor instructed that you must rest in bed and absolutely cannot get up. You take good care of yourself, I'll be right beside you, if there's anything, just give the word."
I said thank you and fell asleep again.
For several days, I was in a daze, just wanting to wake up. I slapped my thigh and shouted, only to realize that I was dreaming. However, this process remained in a state of reverie until later when I fully woke up and had no choice but to accept reality.
I skillfully extracted information from Little Moon's mouth, and learned about this place. I found out that the country I am in is called Changlong, with a national title of Chang, and it is currently the third year of Changxing. It is a country where people are well-fed and clothed, and the nation is at peace.
Listening to Xiaoyue talk about the affairs of the mansion, it turns out that this is actually the Prime Minister's mansion. I didn't expect to meet such a noble person. Although I'm not from one of those famous families, meeting someone formidable can also be a good life experience.
She said that the mansion is currently in mourning for those who have passed away, including Madame Xiang. The young mistress has not yet come to her senses and is still afraid of people. I asked why the Prime Minister's family was attacked, but Xiaoyue shook her head, saying that it was an order from the master, and no one was allowed to mention this matter, so the specific reason is unknown.
Then she said that Day Cheng big brother came to see me when I was sleeping, I asked her who Day Cheng big brother is, she said it's the one who rides a horse with you. She also said that Day Cheng big brother is a good person, and her face turned red while saying that, I think this little girl must have a crush on him.
After several more days, I was finally able to get out of bed. It's really a blessing, if I had lain there any longer, I would have grown moldy. Xiaoyue supported me as I walked out of the house and into the courtyard to bask in the sun and take in some fresh air. I felt much better. Although lying in the house didn't make me feel tired, I always felt like I couldn't catch my breath, and my chest felt very stuffy.
It's high noon on a winter day, although it's very cold, the sunshine makes me feel comfortable. I look around at the courtyard where I live, which is quite elegant. There's a flowerbed in the courtyard, but it's empty and bare, probably because nothing can be planted in winter. On the other side, there are some trees with unknown names, their yellow leaves scattered and hanging on them.
I told Xiaoyue that I would sit here for a while, and she could go ahead with her work. Xiaoyue was very considerate, and she put a fur coat on me before leaving the yard.
Sitting in the rattan chair in front of the house, I looked up at the building in front of me, with its red walls and green tiles. My understanding of architecture is still limited to whether it's grand or not, so I couldn't comment on whether the current Marquis' mansion is luxurious or not. However, since he's such a high-ranking official, this garden must be pretty good too. Actually, no matter where I travel to, it doesn't matter, as long as I'm here, I'll make do with what I have.
But what makes me particularly concerned is the text and language, just like the plaque on the door of my current residence, which reads "Purple Energy Arrives from the East". The meaning is clear, but it's this font, these twisted and turned characters, although not in the script of my hometown, I can still recognize them.
They also have their own language, which is not mine, but I can understand it and speak it because it's a language I've studied for over ten years, taught by my father sentence by sentence. When I grew up, I asked him why I had to learn this language, he said it was passed down from our ancestors and must be passed on from generation to generation.
When I asked him again, he stopped talking. Later when I grew up, I thought it was a foreign language and even boasted that if one day I couldn't make a living, I could be a translator.
But what's going on now? My father only taught me the words, but not the customs and habits related to these words. I don't know anything else, and it's impossible to go back and ask him clearly now.
Forget it, don't think about it anymore. As the saying goes, "The boat will naturally go straight when it reaches the bridgehead."
I heard the gate of the yard open, and I suddenly realized that I had been sitting for a short while. The sky was getting dark, and I quickly got up to welcome him. A man came in, it was the man who rode horses with me that day. He must be Riyeon's Dayeon hyung, whom she kept mentioning. I understood, and bowed my head slightly.
"Miss, your body feels a bit better."
"Thank you, sir, for your concern. I'm feeling much better," he said, standing tall and upright. Wan Rijian was not a handsome man, but neither was he unattractive. His face was square-shaped, with sharp eyebrows and piercing eyes that seemed to gleam with intensity. His lips were thick and well-proportioned, his teeth white and even. His hair was pulled back and tied up high, giving him a resolute air. "I thank you, sir, for saving my life."
"No need to be polite, Master Xiang is your lifesaver." I nodded.
The conversation had come to an abrupt end, and the courtyard fell silent. Our eyes met, and for a moment, I was taken back to that day. My heart skipped a beat, but I quickly composed myself and asked, "I hope the Prime Minister is in good health, and how about the Princess?"
"Master Xiang's body has already recovered, it's just that the county master's body still needs some time." I nodded understandingly.
"That girl, I won't disturb you anymore, take good care of yourself, goodbye." He bowed and left.
"Big Brother Wan, I'll see you off!" Xiaoyue let go of my hand and went to see him off. This little girl! Suddenly feeling a bit chilly, I turned around and entered the house. Although my legs were a bit weak, it was okay, hadn't become disabled, could still walk.
"Master."
